10-24-11 Went back up this AM and found my second arrow 15 yards behind where the doe was standing. No blood or penetration for that matter. This goes as a first of having a arrow deflect off a deer. Saw a nice 2.5 year old (high rack) 6 or 8 point on rt 243 just north of Rushford lake on the way home tonight about 5:30 working a licking branch on a apple tree. Probably wont get out until Friday night or Saturday morning but i cant wait.

Thanks - That is what i was thinking when i posted it here.

10-23-11 I am officially getting depressed. Took my 4 year old daughter up to my blind / food plot. Got settled in at about 10 after 5 for her first ever deer hunt. About 1/4 till 6 i hear leaves crunching and spot a doe and yearling working over to the food plot. They both come into the plot and feed for a few minutes. She passes behind a tree and i draw. Shes at 25 yards and i put the 25 yard pin behind her shoulder and let fly. Clean miss under her belly. The yearling bolts but she takes two bounds and stops at the edge of the plot behind a tree. I take advantage of the tree to knock a second arrow. The yearling comes back and she starts to walk back over and when she gets about the 19-20 yard range i put the 15 yard pin a touch high and let the second one fly. I watch as she pivots left and the arrow strikes her shoulder and the arrow appeared to deflect while taking off a big patch of shoulder hair. She loops down hill and heads back off through the timber without any visible signs of damage (arrow impact side facing away). As soon as she was out of sight / sound i head for the plot and take a look. Big patch of short dark hair and no arrow . I came straight home and put a dozen arrows downrange at 25 and 35 yards 2-3 inch groups and 4-6 inch groups. I am going back up in the AM to see if i can find anything more but man this sucks.

I just checked the extended forecast and they are calling for cold (mid 40s for highs and lows around 30) and a possibility of snow starting Friday. Plus i got two weeks of vacation starting the 29th. I am as happy as a pig in @#$%. Things should be rockin if this plays out.

10-22-11 Tried out a new spot tonight. Got permission for a 20 acre piece of land that a professor owns at the local college. Half wooded, half field with 3 ponds. Deer are out in the field EVERY night so i had to give it a shot. Went in blind with the exception of what i had been seeing from the road. Ended up sitting in a brush island between two of the ponds. Got settled in about 4 cleaned out some goldenrod and got it down to bear earth so it was quiet. Good SW wind and a little running water for background noise. About 5:30 had a doe and two yearlings pop out of the goldenrod (down wind of me) which i was told they normally pot out on the upwind side - go figure. They fed around for about 15 minutes until the doe did the old snap to attention when she caught my wind. Spent till the end of legal shooting light playing cat and mouse. She blows / stomps runs into the goldenrod. A few minutes and she re appears and gets a little braver / closer and we repeat the process. Finally she is closing the gap to less than 20 yards and when she blows she will turn 180 away from me and take a couple steps before bounding off. So i figure what the heck next time shes inside 20 yards i will try and draw when she turns. But I am sure you can guess how that turned out. One thing i will say damn i like my ASAT leafy suite. 20 yards and she could not pick me out and she knew i was there.

I have a 5, 4, and 2 year old. I started my 5 year old last year with hour sits. First time out last year with my daughter i shot a little 7pt. I took her out earlier in the week for the first time this year and saw 3 doe and missed a little buck.Tomorrow i am going to take my 4 year old out for the first time. Keep it short, let them do what they want (mine play with calls), and don't expect to see anything. When you do see something it completely turns the hunt around. I will quiz my girls about everything they see, birds, animals, plants.

Is that what you tell the cop when he catches you drinking underage? `

http://www.archeryta...d.php?t=1604989 Another facebook pic from a wife's, cousins, friend. If i were posting something like the above for NY i could see an issue. Again though this one is Ohio i still don't have an issue. Alright rant over. Have a good season and i hope you are as lucky as the SOB that shot the buck in the OP.

Thats funny looks like the one shot out in Cherry Creek in 07 http://deerhunterfancom.hubpages.com/hub/DeerHunterFancom-Big-Whitetail-Bucks I think most bucks on here are ligit and have no issues with someone posting there pics, buddys pics, or buddys buddys pics.

Dude WTF? I posted a pic from a friend. Never claimed it was mine or even his - its not. I stated i have no reason to think it is a hoax otherwise i would not have put it up. Now there is a second user corroborating the story (who i don't know). Whats the issue? As for keeping it to myself i thought some other guys would appreciate it (especially those who live and breath big bucks and are from my home county like joe).

I dont think it really matters in this day and age. My opinion is if you dont want something known dont post it or put pictures up. Between facebook, twitter, and sites like this stuff spreads fast. I grew up just up on the hill from "almost smack dab in the center".

Madison co. I will leave it at that.

I got no reason not to believe him. I think he took the photo.

I get the same problem WOOL SOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Two pair. Fresh socks when i get to stand if need be. Also make sure you have your head and neck covered. I always wear a fleece cap or two plus a neck gator.

Took this off a buddy's face book page. Shot by one of his hunting partners in central Madison co. around the corner from where i grew up.

No problem. 35 not 40 and I practice and have taken deer at that yardage before without issue. I never questioned it till now. That being said i always held myself to 35 as a max and would not even consider shooting 50-60-70+ due to the above reasons.

Well this will be an attempt to put down what i see in the woods. Mainly for deer but you might see waterfowl or turkey entries as well. 10-16-11 First time out with a bow was Sunday morning. I went in at grey light and still hunted to the stand which is a 6' diameter oak at the edge of a beech thicket in a funnel. Sat till 11 and didn't see a thing other than chipmunks. Wind was blowing 15-20 mph. Temps were in the 40s. 10-17-11 Hunted the evening. Sitting in my stand by 3:45 off a field edge with a bedding area out on the point of a ridge. Hoped to intercept something coming out to feed in the clover. I spent more time worrying about my tree snapping than looking for deer. The maple i was in was only about 2.5-3' diameter where i was sitting and man was it moving. Wind was 25+ with gusts over 35. Had to take the long way around leaving because the bull in the pasture was less than welcoming. Temps were in the mid 50s. 10-18-11 Took my daughter up to our foodplot and had three doe and a 4 point come in. First doe moved down hill and down wind of us without a shot. My daughter sneezed twice and the deer ran off but i could here it stomping. I bleated twice to try and calm her down but she came unglued. My daughter started playing with the bleat and had another doe and yearling come in with a 4 point. The doe worked off down hill but the 4 point came into the plot. I took a 35 yard shot but believe i missed due to some serious string ducking. Cant find the arrow no blood or significant hair. It was dead quiet and i am also re thinking my broad heads (razor tricks) i could here them whistling all the way to the deer. Temps were around 60.

I was thinking of this the other day and realized all of my archery harvests have been in the evening. All of my rifle / shotgun harvest with the exception of 2 have been in the morning. I still prefer evening.

I am seriously re-thinking my yardage. After my experience last night missing and last year with a lost deer.

Well i went back up and without much luck. Found the exact spot he was standing and where he dug in with his hind feet when he bolted. I did manage to find 3, yes 3 hairs (hands and knees). Short dark looks like upper back definitely not belly, brisket or the like. Still no arrow and i have a 25 X 50 or 60' area practically cleared of golden rod. Found where he crossed the road again (broken goldenrod laid down in the road). Followed the trail down the neighbors property which is maintained and open plus goes to water. With no sign what so ever. I think it was a grazing hit on the upper back. I would look with a metal detector but it would be useless. The field use to be a home site. House burned and the debris was bulldozed and leveled all over the field back to the woods. Not to mention this area was the site of some of the first oil wells in the country. Metal is everywhere. When i put that plot in i got all sorts of stuff coming up piping, bed springs, hinges, nails etc. etc. I just didn't want a repeat of last year. Lost my first deer after 11 years of hunting (same EXACT spot, down to working the same licking branch with my same daughter sitting next to me). Last year i knew i had a dead deer i just couldn't find it. I think this time it was a miss i can live with. I think he will live to see another day. -

I dont know if i hit him. The more i think about it less sure i am. I practice alot out to 50 yards from the ground and i hold to 35 and under for hunting so i feel the shot was good - weather it connected or not is another story. I am getting ready to go back up and start with finding that arrow. No hair, forgot to mention that above. -
I went out to night and took my 5 year old daughter to the blind off the food plot i put in. A little after 5 had a doe walk by about 35 yards down the hill. Then my daughter sneezed twice and i could hear the deer running behind us. I bleated twice in a attempt to calm her down which had the opposite effect getting her to blow like crazy. At this point i think the night is done so i let my daughter play with the doe bleat a little. Later i hear leaves moving and i can see several deer down hill. A little 4 point and and some doe. The 4 pt comes walking up into the food plot. My daughter wants me to shoot him so hes at 35 yards working a licking branch. I settle my pin and squeeze the release. He then jumps the string and drops something fierce. At this point my heart sinks as i hear a twack and he runs off through the golden rod blowing the whole way which sounded like 100+ yards of breaking branches. Now i have never had a deer blow after being shot so that threw me a little. On the other hand he reacted just like all the other deer i have fatally shot (i.e. making a racket while running off). I immediately tried to retrieve the arrow (without any success). I brought my daughter home and put her to bed and then went back up on the hill. I spent an hour looking for the arrow with no luck. Not a drop of blood to be seen anywhere. I did find where he crossed the road about 50 yards behind the plot but that is the only sign i found and as far as i went not wanting to push him. I got rained off the hill so if there was any blood its gone now. Now i am questioning if i hit him at all? Either way i will be up there at first light looking. I got a feeling its going to be a long night.

How would you like to find this....
