  1. I wouldn't say frisky just establishing dominance. I was out turkey hunting couple years ago in the fall and watched a big 9 and 8 have a cage match in the middle of a pasture (without a cage).
  2. I second that. I have a set of blue bibs and jacket that i got from work and you will not get wet in them. I used to have a site book marked that you could get a complete set in real-tree AP for under 70$ if i recall right but the site gives me an error now. Look around on the web and you might be able to find a good deal. I also have a set of Gander MT bibs and jacket that held up pretty well and they were quiet. I wore them for everything Turkey, Deer, Fishing etc. etc. I also have a set of Drake bibs and Jacket which are nice along with a LL Bean Jacket in MAX 4 for waterfowl. I picked up the LL Bean Jacket at the outlet store in Fayettville. I picked up a no name set of pants and jacket on clearance at Fin, Feathers and Fur out in Ohio to replace my gander stuff when it finally craps the bed. Haven't used it yet but it looks decent for what i paid for it. http://www.rogerssportinggoods.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=90_99 The cheap pair at the bottom in digital camo is what i garbed for a back up and there is a 60$ set of Nat Gear on here as well. Anyone who has never seen this site they usually have pretty good deals (ESPECIALLY ON WATERFOWL AMMO BY THE CASE).
  3. Sold Any way to lock a thread like on the AT classifieds?
  4. Get yourself a ghuile suite or leaf suit, especially if your on the ground. I would recommend ASAT. Hunt pinch points where deer movement is concentrated. Look for wooded streams cutting through fields, the inside corners of fields, steep terrain where deer will travel "around" large hills instead of going over them, look for saddles etc. Stick close to bedding areas or just thick cover in general. Bow isnt like gun you cant shoot as far as you can see. I like to take away a deers ability to see me before he is in range. starting in 3 weeks look for road kill does and cut the hock glands off and use them as a sent instead of the bottled stuff. You could also try smoking your cloths before the hunt (I am doing this for the first time this year so i cant tell you how well it will work as a cover sent). Do you know where your outfitters boundaries are. If so post a link with a google pin and i would love to get a look at the layout of the property. If i can see areials and look at topos i could give you some more direction where I would pick to hunt. You need to keep in mind a good spot for a gun is often a lousy spot for a bow you need to cut the distance considerably.
  5. Sticky at the top of the deer forum.
  6. Not exactly. You might want to check with a ECO before trying it. I have heard it stated that if a tri-axle is delivered to a residence and the intended use is firewood (even if they are 20 foot sticks) they are in violation of the 50 mile rule because the intended use is firewood. And yes there isn't much left in Ohio or Michigan. Livonia Michigan (ground zero) is to the point where you can not ID a ash anymore. The only remnants of ash i could find while out there this spring where 40 inch but logs with galleries - nothing that was alive or even dead unless it was larger diameter stuff that hadn't completely decayed yet.
  7. The standard for removing chips from the quarantine is "less than a inch in two dimensions". When a log is processed at a mill it is de-barked first which will eliminate almost all if not all of the insect larvae (they are phloem feeders). EAB makes a "J" hook into the sapwood to pupate but it will not be able to complete pupation if it is chipped to the above size because it will die of dessication.
  8. 20+ for bow and 10+ for gun That's not counting nights i manage to slip out. Probably be upward of 45 when its all said and done.
  9. DUDE You didn't even let him finish his breakfast. Poor SOB.
  10. Great shots. I got to get out more with the camera this is killing me.
  11. Wedding rings - I got it back though.
  12. Ive got 15__32" climbing sticks that i am looking unload. I am looking for 9$ each or all for 120$. You get about 12 ft out of 3 sections so that's enough to set up 5 trees (if you leave them). I used to take the bottom two out of the woods and leave the top ones. These were all bought from Gander Mtn. or Bass Pro (mainly Gander). Either 1, 2, or 3 years ago. I put these out usually the end of August and they would stay up till the end of late bow when i took them down. One year i left 4 out over the winter and they ended up fading. None are bent, cracked or broken. some surface rust but they are sound. All the straps are in good condition no rips, tears or fraying. The cam buckles are all in good shape including springs with no sticking (a little surface rust on a couple). My zip is 14715 PM me if your interested - NOT SHIPPING THESE. http:// Thats the worst buckle. Anyone wants more pics let me know.
  13. I have had a QUAD equipped bow for 6 years now - no issues what so ever. If i didn't have the QUAD i would go with a rip cord.
  14. If that is true let me be the first to apologize. That being said putting up to clear it would go along way because i am sure that there are more than a couple guys that will still question it. Oh and i would like to apologize to your son as well if so and say welcome to the forum.
  15. Well i got to say i give them a thumbs up wiki. If anything the first may have a smidge too much detail but the second is awesome. I wouldn't be complaining either way. Of course that is coming from someone who has a lot of background in art and got to put up some museum specimens in college but nothing that involved.
  16. Common Oak No worse than the moon theorys that get kicked around. I will give you that they are small sample sizes and more data would be great but that's where my agreement ends. P.S. hows midnight rambler treating you these days? Attached is the document that was sent to me by a biologist that works in Canada and the work he has done. Sorry for the delay - forgot all about this thread. Moon_Myths.pdf
  17. 9H and 9Y Just might get a 9P signed over to me as well.
  18. Enough with the 4!@#$% convention holy crap man. 9Y, 9P, 9k, 9H (some other 9's), 7J, 7H, 7F, 7M mainly - wander over to the 8's on occasion or up into the ADKs.
  19. Hes back! I will admit that takes some balls. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/5675-rochester-gun-show-824-825-at-the-dome/page__pid__70418#entry70418
  20. Hey you ever going to try addressing your slammer issue?
  21. Yes it will suck if jobs are affected by it. That being said the amount of damage these things do far outweighs the benefit. I know a guy through work that went down to Texas to hunt them at a friends place. When he got there he was told buy a guy in the airport that he could come to his place and shoot all he wanted. He would even put him up and feed him. At his buddies place he was expecting a challenge, he brought his rifle and as soon as he got there he wanted to get out. The guys said that he had to be patient and he would get to shoot some hogs. About dusk a bunch of trucks pulled in filled with guys. Everyone jumped out and started loading two trucks with shotguns and buckets of buck shot. One truck filled with guys (cab and bed) went to the end of a peanut field with a fence running along the edge down to a funnel where they were at. He was told whatever you do just don't stop shooting. The other truck with the drive passenger with a 12ga, and two guys in the bed each with a 12ga went to the other end of the field. A few minutes later he herd the engine rev a couple times the headlights and lights on the roll bar were flipped on and the truck tore off across the field. He said it looked like the entire field was moving there were so many pigs pushed through the funnel. As the one woman in the article put it "there are people who do things right and people who do things the lazy way" and they are the ones who will end up screwing for everyone. I would say the other guy talking about castration hit it on the head. It doesn't matter what type of containment you have fences, electrified, hog panels, that's all nice and good but what happens when the next Irene or whatever comes through and washes out half the fence with no electricity and drops 3 dozen trees on the fence. Unfortunately i font think any of it matters at this point. There has been to many introductions between CNY, the southern tier, now the ADKs and across the border in PA. Its only a matter of time before this becomes a wide spread problem for all NY'ers, hunters and our wildlife and ecosystems. As for controlling them DEC has been slashed to the point i don't think they have the resources let to try and handle it. And from the last report i heard US Fish and Wildlife is getting gutted so we wont see anything from them. I would put it like i do with the situation with coyotes. Guys bitch, piss and moan about coyotes killing deer but they don't hunt them. I think these are going to be the same type of issue only on a larger scale.
  22. I have gone to all wool for may base. Then i have either another heavy wool for a layering or a variety of different weight fleece. I was using my rain gear as a outer layer (no insulation) but its the my Drake stuff for waterfowling so i dont want to burn it out to fast. I just ordered a set of Nat Gear windproof fleece (bibs and jacket) for an outer-layer. I found it for quite a bit less than most retailors are asking. I shopped around on archery talk looking for a Nat Gear dealer that might want to beat the price and they would not even think about touching the price. http://www.trailwaters.com/ 107$ for both plus shipping. Most guys ask 140$ plus shipping. And to top it off i have a ASAT leafy suit. If it gets really could i will double up on the insulation or put on a down vest or jacket.
