On the subject of robo deer: About 15 years ago EnCon bagged like 8 guys, all related (in multiple ways) for rolling up with like 6 guys in the back of a pickup and just BLASTING their mechanical deer to hell and back again. Chase's, Snyder's, and Case's for the most part as I recall in the sleepy little town of Medusa. I am not making this up, the EnCon guys came running out of the woods where they were hidden yelling "STOP SHOOTING!" because they were destroying the decoy.

DEC's budget is shot to heck. Less EnCon officers to cover more territory. On the subject of jacking, I know for a fact in southern albany county alot of, shall we say less privileged families, and some jack______ just looking to make a buck pop the bucks, cut their heads off, freeze em, and sell em to city toolbags come hunting season. Especially bad out in the Catskill foothills/Helderbergs area.

Ive been a bills fan since I was 10 years old and they went to the superbowl. It is just torturous, TORTUROUS to see how they just get worse and worse each year. Edwards is a 3rd string quarterback after the concussions. Ralph needs to give up the team, new management please. I hope they don't move to Toronto, because I'm not rooting for a canadian team.

Eh the dog probably had it's pride hurt more than anything else, maybe a cut or two from the hooves. Can't blame mama deer for protecting baby. Kitty better think twice before it smacks mama on the nose though. I'm going to show this video to anybody who thinks deer are all sweet & nice!

This reminds me of the add they started running recently of the Polar Bear hugging the dude with the hybrid. #1, that is a small Polar Bear, or a very tall dude. #2 Well duh. Sending people the wrong message.

I hear you Catskill. Our land abuts 5000 acres of state land, so you can imagine. Not to mention of the neighbors baits like crazy. I know, I've walked in and seen the piles of corn. That more than anything else is why I've taken up bow.

First time for a trail cam...
UpStateRedNeck replied to ADKSasquatch's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
He did better than me, I checked mine this weekend and didn't have squat on it. My buddy informed that I had it too high. So I moved it to some apple trees and set it slightly lower than hip height. Rookie mistake! -
It's really only just a bunch of little things, you enjoy hanging out 20 ft. up in the air alot more when you are real comfy and can spend all of your time scanning the woods.

Yes I tried to sell the camera idea to the very-very-soon-to-be wife this weekend, I really want to take pictures of all the cool stuff I see. We could use a new camera for the honeymoon since we're seeing the grand canyon.

I only started carrying a backpack last year with my bow, as when I used to gun hunt exclusively I prefer 10 step, 10 second wait approach unless it is really damn cold out. Cold = sit, always. Backpack : Peanut granola bars, coffee thermos, water bottle, empty gatorade bottle ( doesn't stay empty long! ), antlers for rattling, headlamp after the sun comes up, drag, gutting knife, skinning gloves, grunt tube, doe bleat can, turkey calls (always entertaining!), scent-away spray, buck lure (tinks), walkie talkie, heat packs, spare gloves.......... That's all I can think of right now but I'm sure I'm forgetting something. On real cold days last year I rolled up my heavy bibs and snapped em onto the bottom my backpack and put them on once I got to the stand. I really like Doc's milkweed pod idea, ingenious!

Anybody have a decent Venison Chili recipe?
UpStateRedNeck replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking

Last year I was in my high treestand on the property line, ~20 feet up, this is second? week of gun. I take my orange off during gun when I'm 20 feet up in the air, so I'm pretty inconspicuous. Quiet, dry day, and I hear something coming through the woods. This A-hole was trolling right along 100 yards past the posted signs, no orange, all solid brown & black with a friggin white fur trimmed hat. So when he's about 30 yards away from the stand, I yell in my big boy voice "HEY! Walking around with no orange on posted property is a really good way to get shot." And the nervy bastard replies (in a thick new jersey accent) "Well ya bettah be fuwkin carful what yuh shootin' at!" Can I legally disarm, hold at riflepoint people until the state police show up?

Oh I'm sure it's steep, but does it drop 1000 feet in 1/4 mile? And that's the gentle side of the farm I've yet to see a barr up there, but I've found lots of prints and plenty of bear scat.
-
That looks pretty interchangeable with our farm, maybe the grade on our hill is a bit steeper but same deal on the south side of the hill. Nice and flat on top though, lot's of fields!

Question on my Mossber 500
UpStateRedNeck replied to drwost's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I :-* my 500. She has received many the affectionate smooch on her still warm barrel. Good girl. I actually made a post about this in the gear for sale area, but I have a barrel I have never shot for a 12 gauge mossberg 500, I was a ding dong when I was like 21 and ordered 2 from Mossberg direct. I'd be willing to part with it pretty cheap, as it is doing me no good whatsoever sitting in it's cardboard packing in my closet. Edit: Also for ammo I like cheap old Remington 3" sluggers. Those mossberg barrels don't seem to like Sabots, but give those hunks of lead a pretty accurate spin for a cannon with no wheels. -
Well we all know (if we didn't before) how to curse in canadienese. Dumb canuck. And whatever that guy with the 60 cal handgun was trying to compensate for, well he hasn't seen it in a while without the use of at least 2 mirrors.

In regards to the original post, before all this squabbling started, the old fellow is merely trying to say that people these days care more about "points & width" than the actual hunting experience. I'd say that is probably true to a certain extent. I would cheerfully disagree that this is a change in the general attitude of people in the past xx number of years, though. I think people are exactly the same as they have always been. I think it's just better publicized now. I also think the older we get, the more we pay attention to and have awareness of these facts, whereas in our youth we're far too busy & self absorbed to pay much attention to it. Plus we want those damn kids to get off our lawns....... I for one support the AR for certain areas, and support additional funding for the DEC to research and maintain it. Yes they can take more $$ out of my paycheck to do so.

I like my Trophy Ridge 3 pin. Those little neon plastic dots show up when my eyesight has given out over 20 yards.
