  1. Interesting, my wife uses a Marlin Bolt in .243 85gr Spitzer she can knock a flee of a cats butt @200yds so I don't see an issue with her shooting deer put the crosshairs on the head done deal. Flinching on the .308 for youngsters, my 15 yr. old Daughter shoots my .308 and she is 5'8" 120lbs, having said that my rifle is NOT your out of the box 5lb hole driller it weighs 17lbs so the recoil is much less. Flinching can be over come by practice and proper gun handling, practice is the key. .300 Win. Mag. IMO over kill.
  2. Savage110 in .308 that I built and my Forge Bow for Deer.
  3. Interesting how this thread has played out.

I am not sure I would call it QDM or not but I pass on any deer that is small, I am not a rack hunter and will take a bigger Doe over a small buck everytime because it means more meat in the freezer....Last season I passed on a buck that was too small and left the season only filling my Doe tag......
  7. Same to you guys, be safe out there.....Going to be very windy today acording to the weather channel....
  8. Well I am as stubborn as the next guy but, 20 to 30 mph winds and showers will keep me indoors instead of in a treestand.......
  9. Merry Christmas To all, and a Happy New Year!!
  10. The math is simple if the coyotes kill one fawn for each 2 Coyotes that is 15,000 dead deer if they take only males(acording to your number count of the coyote) however, if they take all females the number increase exponentially do to the loss of future fawns and, females can bare 2 fawns a year that adds up quickly. Then add to that other natural losses weather, road kills, hunting seasons. The losses to coyote could be devistating to the deer herd. Since there are no "real" natural enemies to the Coyote here in NY that has the capacity to lower the population it is up to the human element to bring them under control if possible.
  11. Furbearer Hunting To hunt furbearers, you need to possess a junior hunting, small game, small/big game, sportsman, super sportsman, non-resident hunting, or non-resident super sportsman license. A trapping or big game license does not allow you to hunt furbearers. Furbearers may be hunted with a bow or firearm as described below. All laws pertaining to the use of a spotlight and firearm apply. You may hunt red and gray fox, coyote, bobcat, raccoon, skunk, mink, weasel and opossum. If you take a bobcat, it must be tagged and sealed. You may use a call, including an electronic call. You may hunt furbearers only after sunrise on the opening day. They may be taken at any hour, day or night, for the rest of their hunting season. Skunk may only be hunted during their open trapping season. Mink may only be hunted in the Southern Zone with a firearm not larger than .22 caliber during their open trapping season. Mink may not be hunted with a firearm in the Northern Zone Muskrat may only be hunted on Lake Champlain during the open trapping season with a firearm not larger than a .22 caliber. You may hunt furbearers during the day using any handgun, shotgun, rifle or bow. Air guns may be used to hunt furbearers. An air gun is defined as a firearm that uses spring or compressed air (not gunpowder) to propel a single projectile that is .17 caliber or larger and produces a muzzle velocity of at least 600 feet/second. You may hunt at night as described below.
  12. Cool thank you. I am expanding my small game hunting because I am going to be getting my 12yr daughter into the field next yr and would like her to do some rabbit, squirel and coyote hunting with me and I have never gone after yotes before
  13. I am in the southern Tier and have wanted to hunt Coyotes just haven't gotten the time to go, now that I have the time where would be a good place to start? What do I NEED to get started beside a weapon which I have.
  14. Just pick up another .308 to hunt with, got to break her cherry
  15. You know I simply do what the law requires me to.
  16. The "by ink" is why I thought show the doe in person, if she is tagged properly then it would be hard to fake..... but I see your point about some areas....not that anyone is "glued" to an area....lol
  17. Well yes I was just thinking best of both worlds, ground hunt or tree hunt choice is yours....Just ocured to me that you need not go up the tree or telephone pole or whatever....
  18. Interesting idea, how about a slight adjustment... They (DEC) issues 2 Doe tags only, then after reporting (in person) your does kills they give you a buck tag, do that for 3 yrs. The freezer fillers like myself will have full freezers the bucks will get a chance to grow providing they are shot legally.
  19. I had a thought about them, I have a summit viper and I was thinking the other day if I don't get in the tree IE I sit and over look a field why not bring along just the top half put it around the tree at a good sitting height so I am comfortable and not sitting on the cold ground.... What say you folks?
  20. That is a bang fall down go in the freezer bear.....
