  1. Is it expensive to do all this work? I'm assuming you're doing the work yourselves and have the equipment, correct?
  2. You'd definitely need a climber because you can't leave permanent stands on public lands. And, if you did, they'd probably get stolen- this I know from personal experience. As far as keeping your sweaty clothes in a plastic bin- I always hang them to dry outside when I get home. Also, you can throw a few pine twigs in the bin when you store your gear.
  3. get a plastic bin for your hunting clothes. change into and out of your gear at your hunting site to avoid wearing your hunting clothes in the car and potentially bringning ticks into the car. this will also help with scent control.
  4. Good luck. It's really hard to get access to private land out here. Wish I had it.
  5. I agree, it's not that too convenient. But, the Bronx to Point Lookout is not too far- it's actually a lot shorter drive than from where I come from.
  6. If not for being lucky enough to have a very experienced friend to learn from, I never would have been able to start duck hunting on the Island.
  7. I hunt with a buddy of mine out of Point Lookout in western Nassau. Loads of brandt as well as occasional mallards, blacks, geese, broadbill, buffleheads, mergansers. You'd definitely need a boat.
  8. I like the rebar idea. Or, maybe just put some large cobble stones down. My neighbor planted bamboo, then vacated the house due to foreclosure/divorce. Now, I'm battling bamboo popping up all over my yard.
  9. Sure Elmer, what do you want to argue about? Today's DOMA ruling?
  10. I'm not even going to begin debating NYC pizza versus Rochester.
  11. uh oh. This thread is about to get ugly again.
  12. Anyone can make a pizza. Making a good one is a different story.
  13. They're not all great. But, even the average ones are better than you'll find most anywhere else.
  14. If the only thing responsible for the pizza being the best in the NY metro area was the Catskills water, they'd have good pizza in the Catskills.
  15. Smoked turkey breast thick sliced, fresh mozzarella, red pepper aioli, arugula, on a ciabata roll. Preferably while striper fishing on the great south bay.
  16. Italian oil? Is that way you upstaters call olive oil?
  17. I'm really curious about this. I was thinking about looking into it for my land. I have a few questions if you don't mind. Do they leave a mess behind- tree tops, etc. Also, does it cost you out of pocket or do they pay you? My land was partially logged a few years before I bought it and could probably benefit from being thinned out a bit. Thanks.
  18. If you typically hike in a ways or hunt in a hilly area, you won't miss carrying a climber.
  19. That's what I've been doing the past few years- leaving the hangers in the woods and carrying the sticks in/out with me. It's pretty silent and I'm in my stand in a minute or two. Beats the hell out of carrying a climber. My plan is to add a few more hangers each year when they go on sale. I doubt that I'll ever use my climber again.
  20. I ask again.... is there any need to continue this thread any longer? There's no longer any debate/discussion. Just a bunch of name calling and snarkiness.
  21. At this point, is there any reason for keeping this thread active?
  22. I agree with G-man. Hangers and sticks are the way to go. I started using hangers a couple of seasons ago and haven't used my climber since. I leave my hangers in the woods all season and carry in only the sticks. They're a little cumbersome, but a lot easier to carry than a climber. And setup takes a couple of seconds and is silent. Walmart had a sale on a hanger/sticks combo this past winter and I bought another two sets. So, I'll have three sets of sticks this season. I'm gonna stash sticks in the woods near my stands to avoid having to carry them into the woods.
  23. Was is your choice to schedule it so far in advance? Or, was that all that was available?
  24. Sorry to hear about this. Must be awful. Good luck with everything.
