  1. I know exactly what you mean. I've gotten in the habit of making my pre-season trips single day trips - 600 miles roundtrip. Aint easy. If I had access here on the island, I'd probably make the trip upstate less often.
  2. That's awesome. My brother-in-law is useless.

I think there is a good amount of pressure out there during the shotgun season. But, I work with a guy who hunts out there and takes deer with the shotgun.
  4. Again comparing Obama to Hitler and proving how deranged your thought process is. Constitutional scholars do not pass laws and are not responsible for interpreting the Constitution. They study it and share their opinions. You seem to believe that you can simply follow the Constitution as you yourself interpret it, according to your own biases and beliefs. And then you convince yourself that this makes you some sort of patriot. And, when they pass that law that you suggested, or when anyone has even suggested passing that law, then we'll talk. Until then, it's just the voices in your head again.
  5. Sorry to contradict TwoTracks advice. But, rotator cuff tears and meniscus tears are two entirely different things. RC tears need to be addressed right away. Meniscus tears can wait. And, not all knee surgeries are the same. Tendon and ligament injuries are also very different from menisucs tears. You will not be in a cast after meniscus surgery. In fact, you'll probably walk out of the hospital on the same day with a cane or crutches. If your surgery involves more than just a meniscus repair/resection, then you may be in for a brace post-op.
  6. Doc is spot on. It is not the job of law enforcement to interpret the Constitution. That's the job of the judicial system. LEO's job is to enforce the laws.
  7. Don't they close Rocky Point to bike riders during hunting season?
  8. The fact that you're concerned with not disturbing other hunters means that you'll probably be more courteous than most of the other guys out there. Just keep a reasonable distance if you come across another hunter and you'll be fine. You have as much right to be out there as any other resident, as long as you're following the rules.
  9. The ATV ran great, thanks. Sure made it a lot easier going up and down the mountain with all that gear. As far as using cameras, I'm not sure it'll do me any good. My cabin is really small (14'x14') and should only take a minute or two for someone to realize they're wasting their time. Even if I did get an email alert, I doubt that police would get there quick enough to catch anyone. Maybe if the intruders decided to stick around for a while- but, I doubt that would happen. I'm thinking that I'm gonna have to start boarding up the windows. I do feel lucky that the two breakins haven't led to the place getting trashed. But, it's a real bummer to see that there is such a lack of respect from some people.
  10. I will keep an eye to make sure that they don't wander onto my land. But, so far they seem to be okay. I wonder if there's any way to find out what the plans are as far as when the area will be logged. They must have a reason for marking all those trees. Thanks for the info.
  11. My land is surrounded by state forest. There has been some logging being done in the area since I've owned my property. This weekend, I was scouting and noticed loads of fresh paint markings on the trees adjacent to my property. Bright orange slash marks and x's on most of the trees. I'm assuming they were marked for a reason. Does this mean that the area is about to be logged?
  12. I went upstate this weekend to try out the quad and do some prep for the season. I hadn't been up there since May. When I went up in May, someone had pushed in the front door. They looked around and left without destroying the place. Luckily, I don't leave anything of value up there. So, I put a double keyed dead bolt in the door to prevent another break-in. This time, when I got up there I found the same thing- someone had broken in and searched the place. The back window was broken- they couldn't get through the dead bolt, so they broke a window. To get out, they must have had to climb back out through the broken window. I hope they cut themselves up in the process. I cut up some scrap lumber and covered the broken paine. It really makes me sad to think that I've been broken into twice in the past six months. I'm afraid that the next person that breaks in will destroy the place out of spite.
  13. There is a large percentage of the population that chooses not to own guns. Are they 'slaves'?
  14. By 'cages', do you mean that you have to fence in the whole plot?
  15. The chili idea sounds like a good one. I made jerky out of goose meat this past year and it was okay- not great. I made jerky out of duck meat, and it was excellent.
  16. Gonna head upstate this weekend to clear trails and hang stands. Really looking forward to trying it out. It should make my pre-season prep a whole lot easier. And, considering that my land is 300 miles from where I live, it'll save me a lot of time.
  17. Yep. It's got 4WD. I'm picking it up today.
  18. Hector, thanks for the advice. It's actually a Scrambler that I'm getting. I won't be putting a lot of mileage on it, but I'll be sure to change the oil every year.
  19. Now that I got my trailer, I'm picking up my 2001 Polaris 500 tomorrow. Looking forward to bringing it upstate this weekend to help prep for the season.
  20. Thanks. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of use out of both the trailer and the quad.
  21. My feet will continue to carry me just fine to my stands on hunting days. But, my quad will save me a lot of time and effort climbing the steep hill that I hunt to hang my stands and set my cameras in the preseason. It'll also be a big help in keeping my trails open and passable as opposed to overgrown. If I do bring it with me during hunting season, it'll make it a lot easier dragging a deer out of the woods also.
