Some of these responses crack me up, I think the op started this out of curiosity but once again as is the way this forum works if someone doesn't do it certain people's way then they are wrong!

I would say I am above average at moving through the woods in the dark.
-
With any moonlight ar all you can see deer moving yes, he follows the edge of his field about 15 yds in and hunts another field edge and I see his headlamp every weekend morning. Yea I wear safety glasses when walking in or out it the dark. one thing I learned in 8 years in the marine corps as a sniper is nothing can F*** your day up like a stick to the eye.

I shoot the 100gn equivalent in bh209 with a speer 260gn speer jsp "same bullet I shoot in my 45lc with" a hornady sabot haven't shot it over the crono yet. In my bullet test " 5 gallon bucket with loose beach sand" I have almost identical expansion as I do out of my blackhawk. Recoil is all there but not unmanageable.

Anyone use the CVA optima pistol. I just bought one and love it
-
I love being in my stand and seeing my neighbor walk in with his head lamp on and the watch the deer start working out of his field towards me:) As for me I go lightless when ever possible but I always wear safety glasses into my stands in the dark.
-
Haha bet that would make one hell of a BOOM!
-
Buckmaster, was the 300 a typo? No it's want? A 300grain SST
-
SST's are not a rapid expanding bullet even when pushed fast. In a ML or large caliber pistol cartridge expansion isn't necessary. I shoot the 300gn over a max charge of BH209 because I know the bullet will go from front to back, back to front or side to side of any white tail.

Is a Crossbow "easier" than a Compound?
Buckmaster7600 replied to newhunter14's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Some may argue, although I don't know how but a crossbow is much easier. I have hunted a lot with both "was stationed in nc where crossbows have been legal for a long time." I can buy a crossbow in the morning tune it and sight it in and be 100% confident out to 50yds for a hunt that afternoon. That cannot be done with a compound. -
Although some have stated they would "rather hit themselves in the groin that sit in the dark for an hr" it is my favorite time to be in the woods I have learned more about deer from what I have seen in the moon light than any other time. I have seen bucks fight, does fight, does being bred all in the pre dawn moon light. There is few things I have found more relaxing than being in the woods in the stand in the dark. Everyone has their own way and mine might not be the best but I have been very successful and won't be changing anytime soon.

For bow I'm always in my stands an 1.5hr before sunrise. I mainly hunt woods in the morning and fields at night. At night I wait until dark so I can sneak out without being seen.

Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
Buckmaster7600 replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
I just find it amazing how some can willingly admit to breaking some laws because it on accident or there are grey areas but you say you follow hunting laws to the T. I speed I set my cruise in 72 in a 65 because I know that is what I can do with minimal risk. I do not stare at my watch to the second for legal shooting times, I have let deer walk even though I could have killed them because I knew it was too early/late. If I am watching the news or reading the paper and I see someone caught doing 100mph I think "wow what a dummy" there is a big difference between me and 95% of other drivers doing a little faster than the speed limit and someone doing double the speed limit. It's the same thing as someone shooting minutes before or after legal hrs and some one shooting a deer at midnight with a spot light, there is a HUGE difference! -
Awesome buck, It as an amazing feeling when you kill a deer you have tracked for hours and miles!

Couldn't agree more!!

So it is ok to unintentionally break a law? That's what I got out of that statement. -

Well if you are so big on the "books" maybe you should read the drivers manual where it clearly states that you check your Mirrors and guages every 5-7 seconds. This is a endless discusion some on here are realists and others pick and choose what laws to follow and judge others who don't agree on what laws are ok to break and what ones aren't. -
But how is that put on the "weekend warrior" Maybe I'm confused but I consider a weekend warrior someone who's doesn't have the time and or money to invest in hunting that some of us do. 2 weeks ago I was talking to a friend of a friend about hunting and he said he hasn't been out yet because he has his own business and works 7 days a week. I told him I'd he could make a couple hrs on the next Saturday morning he was welcome to come over and sit one of my stands he graciously accepted. Around 730 I hear him shoot at about 8 I walk over to the stand I put him in and he is standing there with a huge smile on his face.. He shot a half rack 2 pointer that I had literly let walk 20 times and I could not have been happier it was the first deer he has killed in 4 years and I j was able to assist him and I felt awesome for it. He uses a 30-30 his grandpa gave him and a wore blue jeans and a flannel shirt. I don't know about you guys but that's what hunting is about. I even gave him an old muzzeloader and told him if he could make time he was welcome to come back as he is going to do on Friday.

This reminds me of something I see every summer when the guy with a 50k bass boats feels that he owns the boat launch and takes up a ramp and a dock for a half an hr and makes the guy with a john boat wait to launch his boat. Or the guy in a boat that passes a little boat without slowing down because he has to get there now. If a fella has 2 days a year to hunt and shoots the first legal deer he sees good for him. Just because someone doesn't scout or have trail cams doesn't make them an outlaw.

Powder for me I have tried them all. I use black horn now as I have for a few years. I once weighed my pelets and found a variation of 3-7 grains that could lead to a 14 grain difference that's pretty substantial, although it would make you miss a deer it will move point of impact.

Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
Buckmaster7600 replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
So if you drive at a speed in excess of the posted speed limit when you have a speedometer 2 feet from your face it's an accident but if I shoot a deer 2 minutes after "legal" shooting times because I forfot to check my watch it is an "intentional illegal act" come on, give me a break. -
Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
Buckmaster7600 replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
Having a little experience on the subject there is ABSOLUTLY no law stating that a Leo can't write a ticket for 1mph over will you ever see it, no. When I was in the marine corps MP's would write you a ticket every day for 3or 4 over. I honestly couldn't care less about what laws you guys choose to break and follow as long Your not putting people at risk I just don't understand how someone can admitedly drive 22mph over the speed limit but not shoot 3minutes after "legal" shooting hours. -
Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
Buckmaster7600 replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
Yes there is a minimum speed it's usually 20mph under posted speed and it also cannot be enforced unless it is posted. You can say what ever you need to to make it ok to speed as long as it is only a little but come on you won't get a ticket for going to slow if you are going the speed limit let's be real. -

How? A law is a law. If you steal a lollipop or a TV you are a thief. If you break a Law you are a criminal period. We as citizens have desensitized our selves to certain laws due to the leeway we are given by law enforcement. For some reason people try to think that a hunting law is biblical but laws pertaining to automobiles are different. The only difference is the way law enforcement enforces them.
