LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong

Had 3 doe move through quickly about 20 min ago and 1 unknown at first light. My buddy 300 yds from me had a half rack 2 pt and scrub 5 pt come in lip curling to his scent wick. Wind seems like it keeps changing on me. Come on deer -
I am very interested in getting a Xbow. My problem is it seems like a very large investment for a two week season. I have fired a few of the cheaper ones $399 or less and was not very impressed with them. I don't remember the models I tried unfortunately. I can only get out on weekends and a lot of those weekends are only Sundays. So a huge investment for two days of hunting doesn't make a lot of sense to me when I can just use my bow. Does anyone have a lower end model Xbow that didn't break the bank that they love? Would I be better off seeing if the law changes and then dropping some money on a much better one?

For those of you that followed my two year saga with my .308 Browning BAR...I was finally able to get to the Range with my new Rifle today (Yes Cabela's replaced it). After getting it sighted in I was able to get consistent 2" to 2 1/2" groups at 100 yds using factory Fusion 165gr ammo. I was also able to consistently hit the 8" steel pie plate sized target at the end of the 200 yd range although I never checked a group at 200 yds. I didn't try any other ammo while at the range today. While I would refrain from calling the new rifle a tack driver....It is head and shoulders above the 6 to 8" groups I was shooting at 50 yds with the original new BAR. It will certainly be good enough for deer hunting this season and into the future. Thank God this whole ordeal is over with......

Is that considered High Fence? -
I purchased an extra long bow hanger this year. It comes out of the tree to my left and bends out in front of me so the bow is hanging right in front of me. It breaks up my outline and it right there if I need it. I hung it just high enough that it misses my head when I stand. I should have purchased one a long time ago....

Well I am sitting in a different spot for the afternoon. My buddy has seen several different bucks from my stand. Told me not to shoot the two 6's he keeps seeing and to leave anything over an 8 for him....hummmm -
Not me....I didn't buy it this year. I have code blue on a scent wick in front of me right now. That hasn't done anything either

Just had a big doe with two fawns in tow come through. A little disappointed to see she hasn't kicked them out yet -

Windy and spitting rain here. One small doe moved through really fast. Told my wife I was hunting all day but I am already cold and wet. Need some action to warm me up -

I thought this was going to be a perfect morning. Haven't seen a thing. Did my first drag of the year on the way in too. To top it off my right thermocell isn't working and that foot is freezing. Brought stuff to make a mock scrap and my dripper for when I am done with this sit. -
Yes I go in at dark, I don't use a flashlight, I have found that my eyes adjust pretty well even when it is pitch black and I don't have a problem finding my stand. If I sat in another stand I don't hunt as much I would have to use a light. I have not jumped any deer that I am aware of on my way in although they can be really quiet. I am going to make a mock scrape when I leave for the week.....
-
I did a couple of weekends ago....I would rather not tag out for bow on doe....Although in another couple of weeks I might....
-
OK, I have been hunting this stand since Oct. 1st. I generally only can get out once a week so I don't feel like I am putting a lot of pressure on the stand. I have not had a sit where I haven't seen deer but they are all doe. I don't have a single buck on camera either. Last year, same stand same camera placement, by Halloween I had a very nice 8, a 6, A big fork and two or three different spikes on camera. This season nothing. (other than doe) I keep telling myself the bucks will be coming with all the doe activity but I am just no seeing it. Am I wasting my time in this stand or do I assume where the are doe, the buck will soon be.....
-
OK, so I have put a big pile of corn and another pile of apples in front of my stand.....what else can I use to attract deer? Just kidding.....I am bored at work and wanted to see if I could get a rise out of you guys.....

My wife and daughter are excited, they get to gain an hour of sleep.....not me....

I lease property with some friends...My stand is about 100-150 yards off a set of rail road tracks. Most days it is quiet other than the occasional train. Other days there are 4 wheelers ripping up and down the tracks with exhaust systems that I am sure are not legal. Whenever that happens I get really annoyed. Well yesterday morning I had a doe bed 38 yds in front of my stand. What happens....its a 4 wheeling day. Wheelers ripping up and down the tracks, guys hooting and yelling to each other. Sounds like the are seeing who can do the best donuts. Any ways this doe didn't care at all. She even got up and fed a little bit before laying back down while all this was going on. She didn't alert or anything. I figured they would be used to the train knowing it never leaves the tracks but they must feel the same way about the 4 wheelers.....

Man, what a beautiful morning and here I am stuck at work. Not a breath of wind, sunny, cold. Sunday is the only day I can consistently get out and I was out yesterday in the rain and wind swaying back and forth in the tree. Good luck to all that are out this morning. -

Well after getting up and moving a few yards the bedding again the lone doe moved on. Trying to Decide if I should pack it in. Every time I think the wind is dieing down it guts gusty again...getting hungrey. Should have packed a snack -

Where is your daddy? -
At the risk of sounding like an idiot......what is the purpose?
-
OK, with all the responses regarding the Rage I have decided I am going to return the NAP's and give the Rages a try again. I picked up some shock collars and they seem a lot more sturdy. Saved myself $40.....The last NAP I have that is still new will be the arrow that is loaded though. At least until I trust the Rage....
