Why would they stop selling ammo? The background check is suspended for all ammo purchases

I posted on Archery Talk asking if anyone put a scarecrow in their stand while they were not there. I have a stand that is pretty out in the open overlooking a powerline and I thought if there was a scarecrow in it all the time the they would ignore me. The consensus was that deer are more afraid of movement and smell then they are of a human shaped object. I thought it was a good idea but never did try it.....It sure can't hurt.....

I should say that this was a good season for me because I did get a deer and that doesn't happen for me very often. Although I got a deer I feel like it was a poor season for me. I hunted more often and put more time in than I ever have before and saw way less deer than normal. I spent countless hours on the stand during bow and rifle not seeing a thing. I really enjoy seeing deer. I don't have to get one for me to consider the season successful. For me it seemed the weather played a huge part. I got very few days to hunt where the wind wasn't blowing like crazy and I never seem to see anything on windy days. I hunted every weekend from the opening day of bow till last weekend and saw the least amount of deer I have ever seen. So even though my freezer is full and that is the exception and not the norm for me I am going to say it was a terrible season because of the time I put in and the lack of sighting I got out of the time and effort I put in. So I guess seeing deer would make a great season for me, not necessarily getting one....

I took a trip to Cabela's at the end of August. I had been wearing my snowmobile boots that are supost to be good till 40 below when the hunting season got cold. My feet would freeze. ( never a problem snowmobiling) I purchased a pair of boots at Cabela's I believe they are Cabela's brand for $89 bucks with 2000 grams of insulate. I was thinking of purchasing a pair of thermo cells while I was there as well because I am sick of my feet freezing. I am glad I didn't because my feet have been great with those 2000 gram insulate all year.

Chibs? At first I thought you were talking about NCIS. SOA is the only show during the week I look forward to watching. Sept is a long time away. At least we will be closer to the start of deer season than the end

I don't think the clerk did anything wrong. She asked you if you wanted a doe tag and you said no. End of story. If you had said yes she would have asked you what WMU you wanted and you would have told her whatever one you wanted and then she would have said sorry you don't get one thank you for the $10 bucks here is you preference point...

I have seen very few deer this hunting season although I was able to take a small buck with the rifle. I have never hunted the late Archery season and I was wondering how those that have, how they have made out.

I don't have a smoke pole in the arsenal yet so it will be the bow or nothing for me

I just don't see them. This has been a tough year for everyone I hunt with but generally other people see bucks and take larger bucks on the property although not this year. I had a 6 pt come right in to me during bow season and he never gave me an opportunity to draw but I had a chance. I have never missed. (not saying I couldn't just haven't yet) Sounds like I am in the same boat as the guy you know. I just think for whatever reason I am generally at the wrong place at wrong time.

Yes and No. I honestly am not sure how I feel about AR's. On one hand I am 40 yrs old and this is only my second buck. Last year was my first and he wouldn't have made the AR's either and I have been hunting since I was 16. So if AR's were in place I would 40 years old having never killed a buck but the other side of me says maybe if they were in place I would see more bucks and would have gotten one sooner. Either way on Dec. 1st after hunting hard with the bow and then with the rifle I am going to be happy with him no matter how many points he has. I really enjoyed the venison from my deer last year and I am looking forward to getting the deer back from the butcher and having some fresh venison again this year.

Yea, Not huge but I thought for the size he should have more antler. I shot a bigger bodied one last year that was a shorter fork horn.

He pushed through about 5 minutes after several deer went by my stand on my right at about 70 yards. I figured it had to be a buck trailing the doe that went through. I never got a glimpse at the top of his head. After a few minutes of not seeing anything I tried grunting and bleating probably way to much but I figured what the heck. After a minute I saw movement again and I was shocked that my terrible calling actually turned a deer around. Saw bone on the top of his head so I let him have it with the .308.
