  1. I haven't noticed any difference......
  2. That's an older buck, 5.5 or better most likely has all the give aways for a fully mature buck. It will gross very high... 190ish and net mid 170's ...great buck.
  3. Maybe you need a little reminder as to what you said so I posted it below . There are many states that have significant influx of hunters from urban and suburban areas from their own states. Furthermore there are many other states that have to even limit non residents to a small percentage of available tags despite the high demand for their resource. These things are in no way limited to NY. And other states have addressed these issues with more success and in more timely fashion the NY. Th " Flocks " of hunters coming from NYC and Long Island represent about 17% of the states license holders. So to answer your question of " what percentage of Catskills and Adk hunters live there?" .....well the answer is a hell of a lot more then you think. The world doesn't revolve around NYC and Long Island , and neither does NY hunting as most of the license sales come from outside those two areas.
  4. The incessant narcissism of some of its inhabitants......
  5. Brace yourself. I don't want you to go in to shock or cardiac arrest when I let you in on a little secret. The world doesn't revolve around NYC and Long Island. For example .....
  6. Maybe Andy should think twice about the people his people associate with. Just saying...
  7. You might want to check the harvest numbers for antler-less deer in some one buck states. It's pretty clear that they have no problem killing copious amounts of does. All this amounts to is another " I won't like it " so we shouldn't rational for keeping the status quo.
  8. If you apply the 90/10 rule which is pretty sound in regards to hunting there is certainty that a good percentage of the 10% is filling their second buck tag on a a regular bases. A one buck rule especially in the marginal habitat area ( roughly 2/3 of the states) makes a lot of sense. I bow hunt for whitetails for three weeks yearly, in two states that are both one buck states, and the hunting opportunity in both is better then probably 95% of NY. I won't even go into the obscenely long gun season that hits a large portion of the rut......
  9. Here is a write up I did on them... I have played with the Trocars and killed a couple deer with them. Only reason being is they reminded of an old Rocky Mountain broad head design from back in the day. Some good and bad points on them. The good...they seem to group excellent, maybe because of the offset blades that create a helical I don't know...but the shoot very well. They are also quite in flight. Both deer I killed were pass throughout, one died in sight and the other had typical blood trail for about 125 yards. Both double lung shots from tree stands. The bad on the Trocars. They are a one a done head for two reasons. First reason being that the tiny set screw gets gummed up and it's almost impossible to change the blades. One out of three willstrip right out and the time it take for a blade replacement with that in mind....forget it. This isn't insurmountable because honest you can replace the whole head for almost the cost the blades..... However the second reason they one and done is even though the ferrule is steel really isn't that strong, and solid hit and they don't spin true. They blade retention has weak points as well as I have seen a few sheared blades in solid impact tests. Lastly the blade offset really tears the hell out of your broad head targets and makes some removals a pain in the ***.... So in short I wouldn't be afraid to use Trocars but I would limit it to smallish thin skinned game like deer and lopes.... My first choice in heads...no but serviceable.
  10. Acorns are fair here so far, no where near last years bumper crop. some reds are dropping early, mostly attribute that to how dry it currently is. The white oaks and pin oaks look to be right on time but very light in mast this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. If this tread is any indication of the type of feedback the DEC receives then it's no wonder NY deer hunting ranks at the bottom of barrel. The pro OBR side gives explanations as to why it would benefit the deer herd and NY hunting. And the Status quo group says leave it as is because I said so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. On a side note, I have just under 2 k tied up over the years in the lottery for Maine, NH and VT ...and no tag to show for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. With expenses your close to the 7k mark, yes. The hunts themselves range from about 4-6 k depending on the location and if your flying or taking a helicopter in. The rest is travel/ the ferry and miscellaneous stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I can't believe this is even debatable ......
  15. Same with me...I stil put in the draw but I am not waiting on it to moose hunt. To many great places to in the mean time. Next year I am taking my father with me to Newfoundland ....
  16. One and done!! Yep been saying this you years ...
  17. I have Gotten most of my bear pictures on field edges. I attribute that to their almost randomize movement through woods.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I often wonder what they have against having a simple and accountable system? 1 buck tag, to be used in any season Doe tags that are person and DMU specific. That's seems pretty easy to track. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. So the level of difficulty is the deciding factor that over rides sound management practices? That sounds logical for the NYS DEC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. Something that is bothering me about the two week Doe only season in the specific DMU's. Hear me out on this... Let's say you hunting the first week of the bow season in a Doe only area. Your either sex tag is effectively a doe tag for the first two weeks. Now they can and are willing to do this based on their assessment of the need to kill more does in that DMU. Why then are they not willing to make DMU's that have no antler less tags allocated buck only? So for example they give zero antler less tags in 3a ....and yet you can use your archery tag and muzzleloader tags on does. How does this make sense? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
