my buck on the move earlier today

I had a very exciting morning. Probably my best hunt in a very long time as far as quality and quantity. I had several opportunities and find let an arrow fly. Early this morning I let a 9 walk by at 16 yards. My initial thought was to let him walk. Not long after, he decided to walk past all 4 of my cell cams on the property. After he left there were 3 different 8’s and another 9. Took some videos and let them walk. At about 12, a buck came charging out of the bedding chasing a doe right under my stand. Just got a quick look and noticed some nice brows and kickers. Turns out he was the same buck I passed on early and he’s an 11. Stopped him with a mouth bleat for an 8 yard quartering away shot. Hit him high and back and it came out low forward. Clean pass through and he only went 40 yards. He stopped and looked around for about 2 seconds, and tipped right over. He’s not the biggest buck there, but I’m happy with him. I still have another buck tag so I’m planning on being back in there on Friday morning.

Passed on 3 bucks so far. 2 8’s and a 9 with this 8 being the biggest. Tough pass. Had him at 5 yards and decided to let off and grabbed the phone. Great morning so far.

One got hit on the LIE last week at exit 40 Jericho Turnpike.

I think next week things are going to crank up. Cold weather coming on the backside of the new moon. Should be some great pre rut activity on the way.

Ok. I’ll update mine as well. The buck on the right was taken in the last few days of gun season last year. My biggest with the gun. He’s a close second to my best buck on the left, taken with the bow.

Came home from work yesterday and saw a giant standing on my neighbors lawn at 4:30 in the afternoon. I’ve been here for 8 years and that was the biggest buck that I’ve ever seen in my neighborhood. Also the bigger than anything that I’ve had on cam this year. He didn’t have that dopey look yet but it’s nice to see them starting to move during the day. Temps drop here on Saturday. Should be a great coming week.

Starting to get a few daytime pics of big ones, but most are still at night. It won’t be long now.

From the pics I’ve been getting last night and today, I’d say that the seeking phase is upon us here.

Just got a pic of this buck. On the video, he was trailing a doe. He just needs to come thru that patch about 30 minutes earlier. They have definitely started the seeking phase as a buddy of mine had several pics early this morning on one cam of at least 4 different bucks looking for a date.

Started getting pics of big boys on their feet during daylight. My friend got a pic of his target buck at 9am this morning. Another friend just got a pic of a great buck on his feet at 4pm. Neither one was hunting today, but it’s a great sign that they are starting to move during the day now.

I’m sitting in a new stand tonight. Actually the first real sit for the season. I’m in the between a thicket and cattails with a green field behind me on the other side of the cattails. There is already about a dozen does out in the field. I’ve been getting pics of bucks moving through here every night for the last 4 days, including an old 11 point, usually around last light. Just had a big Tom come through as I was typing this.

There are no big bucks on Long Island. You must have us confused with Staten Island.

Got some great video on 2 different cams last night about 50 miles apart. One was a wide 130 8 grunting right in front of the cam. The other was a high 130 9 chasing a doe across a sod field. Things are starting to happen here. It won’t be long until it’s daylight action. They were on my buddies cams, or else I’d post them.

Those were my exact words as well...

This beautiful 12 showed up in my new spot this morning. I hung a stand there last week. I can’t wait for my first sit there, but just need to wait for the time to be right. Probably next week.

I haven’t been out yet. Been busy getting caught up on things and waiting for the right time. A friend of mine got this pic yesterday on his cam of a good buck starting to chase. It wasn’t all out, but it’s a start. We’re starting to get to that time where the unexpected can happen at any time. I’m sure as the moon goes away this week, we can expect action to continue to increase. I’ll be out this weekend finally.

I wish that some of them down here would close and have Sportman’s Warehouse move in. I hope that it’s only a matter of time.
