Managed a dozen this morning before work. Was a bit chilly out there with the wind. Wind was hitting pretty hard andbirds were coming in fast. Made for fun shooting.

Anyone going out for the Crow opener Saturday? I will be out for my first opening day. Usually do not start until the migrations after Christmas, but Iam seeing big numbers in the feedlots and want to try some early shooting. Will mix in some pigeons decoys for a mixed bag. This pigeon hunting is so addictive

Crow season starts Saturday....maybe a mixed bag this weekend. Have had dozens of feeding crows wandering into my pigeon spread. I will have to mix some crow dekes in with it and get the FoxPro fired up.
-
Managed 28 this morning. My shooting was not on...too much on my mind I guess. Should have had 50 or so. But they were flying hard and fast. Not setting up into the spread,,,more pass shooting. But fun nonetheless. Pic is of the 14 that did not land on the corn.

It has been 2 weeks since I have been able to get out. Brush hogging shooting lanes at our rifle spot tomorrow then going to try to hunt some pigeons at 2 new farms. Im having withdrawals. However I do need to remove one box blind from a farm we will no longer be huntin deer and set it and another at our farm up north where we are mowing tomorrow. Tough choices.

I am seeing more of them in my area of Oneida County but not what I would say in huntable numbers...at least this time of the year. Saw a group of 15 or so working the cut wheat field I have been hunting pigeons. Any new season is a good thing for our sport.- 6 replies

Well my 2 fields finally dried up. 3 birds flew in and got them all. Nothing flying all morning. Could have been the fog as well...birds couldn’t see the dekes. Have to find a newly cut wheat field. There are 2 huge fields down the road which should be ready soon. We shall see

Managed 35 this morning with my nephew. Less birds flying but our shooting was on. We had a lot of laughs to go along with it.

Only managed 20 this morning. My field was dragged and replanted. Next field over was still stubble. They were pouring in there pretty good. Farmer is cutting alfalfa right now in the adjoning field where I was set up. Hopefully it will be a good afternoon shoot. Off to mow lawns and yard work for a few hours.

Heading out in the morning to a new cut wheat field. My wife is joining me as well. Hoping that they are flying like last weekend. Looking to hit triple digits this weekend. My nephew is joining me Sunday so that should be a lot of fun. Its sick that I look forward to my pigeon hunts as much as my upland bird and deer hunts.

Got out yesterday and shot 25. Finally got permission to hunt over a cut wheat field this morning and shot 60. They were coming into the decoys in flivks of 30 plus. I refuse to flock shoot as some guys around here too. Too many wounded birds running around after that carnage. A group of 3 were hunting 2 farms over yesterday and 30 shot volleys every 10 minutes. They had extended magazines. I watched fir a bit ftom afar and saw a lot of wounded birds floating off. I did manage 2 triples with one shot. Heads sll lined up perfectly as they set into the decoys. The picture is of 40 of this mornings 60.

Nephew and I got out for a quick hunt this afternoon. Got 30 in an hour and a half. It was pretty windy and the birds weren’t flying too much. Those that were dropped right into the dekes and made for fairly easy targets. We both got doubles on 4 bird groups. A lot of laughs.
-
In my 12 I use 1 1/8 oz target loads in 7.5...same for the 16 except 1oz. Modified chokes. If I am using an over/under I will use IC for the first barrel over decoys. Most of the birds shot yesterday were at 20 yds or less set to land. I never use high brass for pigeons or crows. surprising how much punch target loads have.

I do not eat them. I breast them out for a buddy of mine who loves them. He says he grills them wrapped in bacon most of the time.
-
Another 25 this afternoon ...steady birds for about 2 hours. It amazes me how well they decoy.
-
Got 20 today over the decoys. Passed on several easy shots as there was a house a quarter mile away in the line of fire. Will know how to set up next time. To say I sm addicted is an understatement
-
Scouted 3 farms today. Pigeons everywhere. One just cut hay and the birds were landing and flying in from all directions. Should mske for good decoying tomorrow. We shall see.

She is a beautiful girl...diamonds and pearls...but also throws on the camo and sits in the box blind every hunt...chases behind the setters...drags deer...holds the legs while field dressing. One in a million.

My good friend hit them good last week at a local dairy farm over decoys. Three of them shot 127 in little under 2 hours. They set to the decoys well and it was fairly easy shooting. God bless my wife...she ordered all the dekes..including an extra dozen full body Soar No Mores...she gets angry when I deny myself things but buy the world around me everything they want/need and work like an animal most weeks. She was going to buy me a new A5 camo 12 too but I stopped her thete. I have more guns than Cabelas and cannot see wasting more on a pigeon gun. My Perazzi and A5 sporting clays she bought me last year are more than adequate.

Mojos arrived this morning!! Maybe I will get out this evening and make a fool of myself.
-
Waiting for my Mojo pigeons to complete my decoy spread and the heatwave to pass and then go out and set up in some barnyards and cut hay fields. Been wanting to try it for years. Something to do, along with crows in the winter, in the off seasons. Did very well with crows the last few years
