I want to say it was $75 a night...but that was some time ago

Went about 15 yrs ago with 5 good friends. Stayed 2 nights which was more fun than anything else. Did it in February so there was not much else to do. Couldnt pull the trigger bc there was Noahs Ark of animals all together just looking to be shot. I just couldn’t do it. Not for me

This is the first year I have targeted pigeons. Itsxmuch like setting up for ducks or geese over crop fields. I venture to guess I’ve killed over 500 since July. Its incredibly exciting shooting.

Heavy fog cit me off early. Still managed 10. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Took brother in law out for his first pigeon hunt. We smacked 35. Now he is hooked

I lost my father 7 years ago during deer season. He was 85 and climbed into his box blind the day before he went into the hospital. Its tough. It sucks. But it’s life. I have a couple dozen rifles but my boy uses my dads BAR 308 exclusively. He had the joy of sitting with my dad in his boxblind his last opening day. He has tagged4 wall hangers with that rifle since. God bless you and your family. That rifle WILL shoot straight!!

LIVE From The Woods 2018 - Lets hear stories and see some pictures!

Most judges I find are less than accommodating to us hunting folks...if it were golf, on the other hand, they would ask to join us. Enjoy what you can of the season and congrats on the buck. I am going to try to get out this afternoon to kill a HUGE bear which is raising heck on our parcel up north.- 10374 replies

Moog...what kind of trial? My damned calendar is filling fast for the first week of Rifke up north. Every year I say no court appearances opening week...and undoubtedly the days fill up. Have 3 days of depos the firstcweek if November. I’m getting grumpy!!!- 10374 replies

Definitely a bear. The shadows of a night time picture make the legs look slimmer

Most likely a twenty-something addict trying to sell a hard working mans tools to get their next opiod fix. Oops sorry...that’s incorrect...they suffer opiod dependency syndrome. Meanwhile those who work to pay taxes for their free ride in life have to buy replacements so they can put food on their own AND dependents tables. What a wonderful world we inhabit!!!

Got a few this morning before the pigeons started flying. Ol foxpro got them comin in pretty good

Got out for a quick hunt this morning. Brought the foxpro along. Killed 6 crows and 22 pigeons over fresh cut corn. Was a pretty decent shoot.

Most bears ever in one pull. How big you think that one boy is? I do not think it is the same bear in the other single bear pics. Thoughts?

View from the “pines” box blind. Left to right view is a 50 foot wide mowed side of the field over 400 yds in each direction.

I was trying to be subtle in my concern with my straw hat neighbors...but to say I’m extremely unhappy would be an understatement. Our land borders a 200 acre parcel owned by a great guy. He and his friend and me and my nephew are the only hunters within a couple miles. We have been practicing good restraint on young bucks for 15 years and we have all been able to kill very nice deer the last 10 years or so. God knows what is to come. I pray for the best but am not overly optimistic just because of what the Amish did on 2 other farms we used to hunt. If things turn sour I am not going to exercise my purchase option which is sad because this is a property I have savored for 20 years. I put a cash offer on a small ranch house bordering our land to use as a summer retreat and deer camp. Inground pool, etc. Its only 20 minutes from my house to my box blinds.

I wish I had not deleted all of the pictures. Especially 4 of them in one shot. You cannot believe how BIG 3 of them are. I have captured hundreds on camera but never this big. The head and shoulders on one is just huge. Im still getting 3 does and 3 fawn on camera but NOTHING like usual. Small spike and a crotch too. NONE of the big deer we passed in last year. Amish just bought the 60 acres across the road. I cannot wait to see what happens now. Time will tell.

Pulled the cards ftom 5 camers on our 90 acres up north. On every camera therecis a group of 5 LARGE coyotes running together. Never saw that before. On cameras ALL parts if the days...morning...noon...night. Look like the meanest group of dogs too. 3 are definitely big males. Not a good sight. I will be set up for bear Saturday morning. Come Oct 1 the foxpro will be with me.

Some views from a couple of the other blinds in the other side if the propery. It is incredibly beautiful with snow. I built the blinds at home in sections. Takes about an hour to assemble in the field.
-
Wife and I moved our last box blind from the southern zone to our northern land. We have 5 of these blinds on this property and will be putting the last one in this week. The deer already seemed to like it!

Cool morning. Calm before the storm. Cmon pigeons!!!

TACC...it is so addicting. I have been a wingshooter my entire life and would never give up chasing my setters in the uplands. That being said, when you can shoot pigeons all year with no rules applied it is a great way to spend time outdoors. Some guys just crush up newspaper into balls for decoys. I can’t stress enough how important a Mojo or lucky duck spinner is for oigeons. They see that flicker and cannot resist. Oftentimes a goup comes in...you shoot 2 or 3...and the others just circle back for another round. It’s something every winshooter needs to try.

Put a mojo out there. Even if it is a duck. Couple cheap silhouette dekes and see what happens. I have 20-30 in a flock all come in at once. Its insane.
-
There is certainly no shortage of pigeons just about anywhere. The best areas are within a couple miles or from a town, city or large bridge system. They come out in the morning to feed. Find a relatively freshly cut hayfield and set out the dekes. I witnessed flocks a mile or so out turn and just jet to the dekes. The Mojo pigeons in the spread have made all the difference to me. It is incredibly exciting shooting

I usually carry one of my BAR’s in either 308 or 30-06. Carry well..shoulder quickly...and a quick follow-up if needed. I save the Mag BARs for the box blinds. Running Leupold Varx IIIs 3-9s on both.
