  1. While taking a drive this morning before work scouting for crows I saw a GIANT of a buck in a cut cornfield cruising. Its on a farm I have permission to hunt crows and I am quite certain I can get permission to hunt deer. No one has permission to hunt this farm and there is a nice thick ravine between 2 cornfields and an alfalfa field. Sure got the blood pumping. A big bodied WIDE racked deer...one of those that when he was walking away from me with his head down you can see plenty of bone on either side of his body.
  2. Crows were filthy thick yesterday morning. Couldn’t set up in the field we wanted bc of the mud...plan b was hiding under 2 huge earth scrapers on another farm. We managed 22 over dekes and the foxpro. When we drove by the first field there had to be 3000 crows feeding in it.
  3. View from a couple other boxblinds
  4. My wife finally got her license this year though she has not comitted to shooting other than predators. She goes with me every hunt though and sits in the boxblind or does photography of our bird hunts. I wouldn’t have it without her. This was our view Yesterday afternoon.
  5. As soon as the buck I shot that morning is back from the Taxidermist, we will hang the Nikons around its neck.
  6. Can someone please give a good tip for cooking pheasant. 40 yrs later I still can never tenderize it enough to be less than challenging to eat other than in a sauce or stew. I want to grill or pan sear it but cannot get it right. I don’t want to have yo marinate it to death or add too much junk.
  7. All the unnecessary time and expense in preparation for a trial that will most likely not go in full sends me crazy. I constantly wonder why the courts don’t help us help them!! There is no justifiable reason to hold out on SJ Motions. I settled my case by bringing a preclusion kotion which was granted on a disability claim of the husband/father. Opposing counsel did not even respond to the discovery motion and only showed up at motion term when the court was awarding counsel fees. I hate people!!!!
  8. Moog....are you still scheduled for trial in November or will you get it settled? I just settled what was to be a 3 day matrimonial trial the second week of November. Now I will have a couple days to get after them if nothing else jams up my schedule.
  9. Best part was...after the commotion that I heard....I texted her to see if she was ok....all I got in response was a picture of the binos….a laid out porky....her legs crossed over the shooting rail with a message "All is well...porky 0….Nikons 1....carry on....."
  10. My wife was sitting in one of the box blinds last year with her camera and a porky climbed the ladder and attempted to climb inside. She carries no gun. After hitting it with a water bottle to redirect it...with no success, she proceeded to use the only weapon available to her.... Nikon Binocs. She beat him to submission. The binocs are still covered in quills and sits atop the shelf in my home office as her "trophy" Pics will follow.
  11. I am also in 5H. I killed 22 Porkies last year and 8 so far this year. They DESTROYED 2 of my box blinds, requiring re-sheathing with treated plywood at a cost of over $400. Our property is infested with them. I hate them. The blinds smelled like a zoo for months.
  12. The last 4 years I have been getting horrible bronchial infections come October. I am currently on Prednisone...antibiotic.....and a heavy dose of Albuterol. Hit so hard last weekend I skipped the whole northern Muzzleloader season and almost skipped Saturdays rifle opener.
  13. Crows are really starting to flock up and move. Huge feeding flocks in the mornings over cut corn and soybeans. I need to tagvout out on a buck up north so I can get in these crows before the snow flies for good
  14. Doe chasing a spike from her baby all morning up north...Amish shot 6 times last weekend durting muzzle...6 times yesterday morning of the opener...haven’t seen a horn yet even on cam when wr usually have 3-4 shooters picked out...this guy made a lil mistake this morning and ate a 7mm Ballistic Silver Tip
  15. I want to say it was $75 a night...but that was some time ago
  16. Went about 15 yrs ago with 5 good friends. Stayed 2 nights which was more fun than anything else. Did it in February so there was not much else to do. Couldnt pull the trigger bc there was Noahs Ark of animals all together just looking to be shot. I just couldn’t do it. Not for me
  17. This is the first year I have targeted pigeons. Itsxmuch like setting up for ducks or geese over crop fields. I venture to guess I’ve killed over 500 since July. Its incredibly exciting shooting.
  18. Heavy fog cit me off early. Still managed 10. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
  19. Took brother in law out for his first pigeon hunt. We smacked 35. Now he is hooked
  20. I lost my father 7 years ago during deer season. He was 85 and climbed into his box blind the day before he went into the hospital. Its tough. It sucks. But it’s life. I have a couple dozen rifles but my boy uses my dads BAR 308 exclusively. He had the joy of sitting with my dad in his boxblind his last opening day. He has tagged4 wall hangers with that rifle since. God bless you and your family. That rifle WILL shoot straight!!
  21. Most judges I find are less than accommodating to us hunting folks...if it were golf, on the other hand, they would ask to join us. Enjoy what you can of the season and congrats on the buck. I am going to try to get out this afternoon to kill a HUGE bear which is raising heck on our parcel up north.
  22. Moog...what kind of trial? My damned calendar is filling fast for the first week of Rifke up north. Every year I say no court appearances opening week...and undoubtedly the days fill up. Have 3 days of depos the firstcweek if November. I’m getting grumpy!!!
  23. Definitely a bear. The shadows of a night time picture make the legs look slimmer
