Anyone see this? I might have missed it, pretty big buck. 14 pts, 350lbs
sampotter replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
There is absolutely no doubt that the Facebook buck and the dead buck are one and the same. Look at the split g2 on the right side of the FB pic and the picture of the deer hanging. Had me going for a second... I still don't get why someone would shoot a captive animal for sport? -
I just left the store. They have a nice wall of famous buck mounts- except they have the wrong placards on at least 4 of them... John Breen's as Lloyd Goad's, Lloyd Goad's as some buck from WV, a buck with a droptine as Mel Johnson's, and Mel Johnson's as one from Nova Scotia. I don't know if I should be proud or embarrassed that I noticed that but the 3 guys behind the counter were impressed.

I do it for 5-6 days straight during the rut. It can be boring at times but I've seen some pretty big deer on their feet between 11 and 2... I killed this one at 1:30 pm in 2007 during one of my 1st all-dayers. My Dad had called me and told me I was nuts. I called him 45 minutes later to tell him I had just stuck an arrow in this buck... BTW- this deer taught a little bit about aging deer. Confirmed 3 year old by cementum annuli analysis. He grossed 139 (broken left brow) but if you ignore the antlers and look at the rest of him it makes sense.

I this guy come by at 15 yards @ 9:45 am Saturday. Now I just need his father to do the same... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8YyZ94SjRA&feature=youtu.be

That is one sign, so possibly.

I think it could be the same deer twice. Either way, I would shoot them both or him twice!
-
I don't know how anyone could look proudly at a rack they poached...
-
Wowsa! That is one hell of an 8 point!
-
That deer looks like a legit 160-165 to me. It doesn't look like the oldest deer in the world though.
-
Congratulations! It probably can't get any more exciting than shooting one that close from the ground! Can't wait for pictures.
-
No such thing as a cull buck.
-
Cool. What exactly is a sump?
-
Great deer Geno! Congratulations! Can't wait to see more pictures!
-
Congratulations. There's nothing quite like the 1st one.

Shawnhu- Read into my statement; hopefully I am clear. I don't usually get annoyed with other Huntingny members but I can see why you have had little tiffs with other members recently. First off, before you criticize my education level or anyone else's you really need to make sure you use grammatically correct and complete sentences. Otherwise it proves in the very least that you have not mastered the English language and are in no position to question anyone else's schooling. Second, do an internet search and give yourself a geography lesson; WMUs 3S and 1C are not part of the Southern Tier.

3 or 4? I would think it take quite a few years for a bear to get that big. I know they can get pretty old... http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2013/09/02/oldest-wild-bear-in-the-world-dies-in-minnesota-at-almost-40-years-of-age/

For anyone that doesn't know where Mayfield, NY is; just to clarify, it is in the Northern Zone and the regular rifle season opened this past Saturday on 10/26/13.

My employee is from Johnstown. She thought the guy's name might be Ansonia? Apparently his brother was killed in a bad car wreck and the sister was paralyzed. Tragic story itself.
-
My employee's boyfriend sent this pic this am. Apparently shot by a coworker in the Mayfield area. The story at this point is the hunter's brother passed away last year and the hunter was using his deceased brother's gun. Has the makings of a great story...

I really hope you have the term "Southern Tier" confused with Westchester county... and not the counties that border northern PA like Steuben, Tioga, etc. There is a HUGE difference. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Tier There is no way a hunter can legally have killed 2 bucks so far in the Southern Tier. The only way a hunter in NY could have shot 2 bucks legally so far would be: 1 in the Northern zone on last year's tag 9/27-9/30/13 + 1 on this year's tag OR 1 on the archery either sex tag in any WMU + 1 in Westchester or Suffolk County on the regular season tag. http://www.eregulations.com/newyork/hunting/deer-hunting-tag-descriptions/

Sounds like it. How do you know it was the same buck and doe from last year?
-
that was what I was going to say. He's not my dad, I'll turn him in for you.

They do charter fishing and hunt too. This is why I bought myself a portable bow press and put new strings on myself. I would never own a bowshop- would get in the way of my hunting
