can you explain why hunters would want to shorten gun season?
stubby68 replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Deer Hunting
It is the mightier then thow attitude bow hunters have. A hunter who uses a bow calls himself a bow hunter a hunter who uses a gun calls himself a hunter. When gun season starts it is called hunting when bow season starts it is called BOW season. Comments like orange army, gun hunters do not have what it takes to bow hunt, brown is down clowns. All terms used by bow hunters to separate them selves from gun hunters. The animosity between gunners and bow is created by these things. Or how about bow hunters pushing for a shorter gun season. How about bow hunters being against everything from youth hunt to crossbow just because it is THEIR SEASON. They complain about everything. Want no other activity in the woods while THEIR season is going. Every gunshot they hear is a poacher. And every gun hunter baits. Understand a litthe now? Oh one more. Between this site Facebook and other sites how many stories have there been of deer shot and lost. Not saying that doesn't happen to gunners but wow the number of bad shots and lost deer stories during bow season is outrageous. -

What does a rifle have to do with anything..being able to shoot farther means nothing when fewer deer are on the move. I was out yesterday morning. Had 19 deer walk by me all within 60 yards. Most were in 30 or closer. 30 and under is good bow distance. Hard to see 19 deer during all of gun season let alone 19 in one sit. So yeah way easier. -
One season November 1 to December 15. Any legal can be used and only 1 buck. Make hunting tag either sex. Leave dmps the way it is

Too warm too easy and not wanting to be part of a group that thinks they are better then everyone else. That's why I stopped bow hunting -

Let's see hunt in warmer weather, hunt the time of year when you see the most deer, hunt when bucks are so dumb you can just about walk up to them. Your tag is either sex so if you do not get any doe tags you still have a chqnce to fill the freezer even if you dont see a buck or get one in range.Yep takes a lot to be a bow hunter. If I had to I would go back to bow hunting but these three factors played a part in me stepping away from bow hunting. Bow hunters have the longest season let's see what happens if we make that only 1 week. Gun hunters hunt the worst weather. Which I prefer by the way. Hate hunting in above 30 degree temps. The also hunt spooked and mostly nocturnal deer. Fewer deer seen per sit because of being nocturnal and spooked. Yep gun hunters are lazy I guess. Big holiday in the middle of season and another right off the end of it as well. So for many that means less time in woods due to family oblgations. The rut factor means nothing because by the time gun season gets here the Rut is just about done in most areas. I would love to see one buck tag for any season. Better yet make the tag either sex . A lot of guys would take a doe instead of a buck. Always complaints of gun hunters shooting the first thing that moves. Shorten gun season and see what happens. If the gun hunters do not keep the herd in check who will. We already know bow hunter wont. The majority of them won't even think about taking a doe. Proved by the boycott of bow hunting when they may a 2 week doe only season. -

can you explain why hunters would want to shorten gun season?
stubby68 replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Deer Hunting
You do realize what would happen if they shorten gun season right? Alol the gun hunters that bow hunters you bow hunters dislike that do not get much time to hunt with season the way it is now would have to start bow hunting. That would put the dreaded orange army right where you don't want them. Then bow hunters would be saying our previous season has been ruined by so many hunters. Or what would happen if hunters with already limited time already just stopped hunting. Fewer tags sold means higher tag prices to make up for funds lost. Tags here are already high in price. How would you like paying even more. -

Hunters don't want to shorten gun season. BOW HUNTERS want to. -
In my truck or clipped to belt loop. Lost one years ago off my back. Decided then back was not the place for it. Most of the time it is in my truck.

I am ignoring no information. The facts are that just the number of threads on this site alone of deer wounded and lost by bow hunters supports my side.
-
Your list says 2 guys said they wounded 4 deer . And next to it you wrote 3 with bow and 5 with gun. If you are going to lie about numbers hide it a little better.
-
You can claim whatever you want and so can I. Doesn't make it true. Only thing is that the amount of threads and posts of wounded lost deer from bow hunting support my numbers not yours. Let's just wait for season to open and count the number of deer lost to bow hunters by reading there own words. Wait we won't get a chance to because they all have been told to keep the truth about bow hunting a secret.

Middle of next month or even the first week check on this site and any other site and on any hunting group page on face book and count all the posts about bucks lost or still being looked for. Then after gun season opens up go back to those same groups and count how many posts you find of same thing. You will find very few where a gun was used. Even guys who hunt both gun and bow will be postings pics of bucks they killed with a gun. Yet the same guy will have an earlier post asking for help with finding a deer they hit with an arrow and can not find. With all the wounded with a bow threads it kind of makes one wonder how many more have been wounded any just kept secret. You know Noone can hear the shot so it never happened. How many of those 6 wounded deer were wounded with a gun and how many were wounded with a bow just a day or 2 earlier. I have found lots of dead deer over the years during the first week of gun season. When season is less then 3 days old and a deer is already rotten so bad you smell it before you get 40 yards from it you can bet it is from bow season. Heck I have found dead deer with arrow still in them at all times of gun season. I've even seen deer going through the woods with an arrow sticking out of there rear end. How many times have you seen pics of deer with part of an a row broken off in them. I'm not saying I've never found dead deer from gun shots but they can be counted on one hand. Deer with bullet holes in them? Yep seen that too but again far fewer then arrow wounds. Do deer get wounded and lost during gun season? Yep sure do but far fewer then with a bow. Odds of dropping a deer where it stands are far greater with a gun and all the help threads prove it. If more deer are wounded and lost with a gun then a bow then why would a thread like this one even need to be started for bow season? Keep quiet the public can't know about this.

You didn't have in mind when you said. " I can see why probably prompted this the 16 days to opener" ? Funny you quoted me when you wrote that. I never thought you were thinking of anyone specific in your op. I asked what that ment after you quoted me and said it. Glad to see you do not care what antis read. Also happy to see you be straight forward when typing something. Instead of wording things so you can say you missed my point when your words are questioned. Assumptions have to be made about most of what you post because you hide what you are actually saying and wait for others to figure it out. You may not have any stimulant or klingon in you but you sure have enough j. K rolwings
-
Discretion yes. However you did not say that. And your words do not lead to that as a first thought. Why do you always have to say things in a cloked manner? You were talking about discretion. Antis read these posts as well as hunters and with you not saying use discretion they just as I did can read it as saying keep it secret. I figure you comment about 16 days ment that I am upset because bow season so soon. Once again u leave things to be guessed on. You would be wrong . I do not like hunting in warm weather and if gun season started in 16 days would not be gun hunting. For me deer hunting is to be done in the cold.
-
Nope not at all. Your point was to keep threads about wounded and lost deer down. Use pm to ask for help not make it public. I am not against someone asking for help when they have lost a deer. Yet by you saying keep it out of public and just pm, you are saying keep it secret. At least we agree there is more of a problem of lost deer using bows then guns. What does 16 days left have to do with it?
-
Yes by all means pm. We do not want the public knowing how many deer bow hunters hit and then can not find. Leavening them wounded and suffering. This has to be kept secret. Hunters would use guns have no choice as there shots can be heard thus making it known they took a shot. Bows are silent providing shots to not be heard. Allowing for the secret to remain a s3cret. I assume of course this was directed at bow hunters for the fact that there are very few if any threads about deer shot with a gun and lost to a long search or not found at all.
-
So don't I didn't ask you to.
-
For me it is one inch at 250 yards. I do not think there is a wrong answer though. What ever someone is comfortable with and gets the job done for them. When I started hunting inside 6 inches at 109 yards was good.

stubby68 replied to regulat0r's topic in Deer Hunting
Actually there is nothing for the two guys to work out. The land owner gave both guys permission to hunt and one of the guys is taking control of the property and saying the other can not hunt there even though the owner says he can. As a land owner I will not let someone else controlling my property. It is so much more then two guys not working things. It is one guy saying he does not care who owns the land he will controlling it as his own. It isn't even about two guys hunting it is one guy taking controlling of your property. -

I understand that. At the same do you want someone thinking they run your property just because u did them that favor. That could cause more headache then if they came to you and you made it clear who owns it and who decides who hunts it. In this case it is not two guys not working things out. It is one guy thinking he controls someone else's property. He was given an inch and jumped a mile. I wouldn't even want that guy as a handyman. -

My thoughts as well. -

So you would be fine with one of them running your property for you. If I give 2 guys permission to hunt my land and then one of them tells the other they can not hunt I want to know about it. It is the land owners call as to who can and can not hunt. They handy man is acting like he has control of the property. Let this go and you could have more problems. Why would you not want to know someone elselse thinks they controlled your land. If the handy man comes to me complaining about some else having permission to hunt he is gone. If the other person tells me he has been told by the handyman he can't hunt the handy man is gone. My property my rules. I am the one who says yah or nay . Just because I give someone permission to hunt they should not think they have the right to tell others they can not if I gave others permission. Adults or not it sounds like the handy man already thinks he run things on someone else's property and as a landowner I would not let it go any further.
