I went a slightly cheaper route and got me an H&R 20 gauge and topped it with a Bushnell 1.75x4. It's an awesome single shot.

Was daydreaming about hunting Alaska and ended up on their state page and came across this section "Big Magnums Not Needed" for hunting there. When you speak to non Alaskans though, they say u need a Howitzer to hunt. So do the hunters from the lower 48 just overdue it and think bigger is just better?

I just reorganized all my ammo last night. Now I need something else lol.

Fancy Custom Built Rifle to Pass On
Borngeechee replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
A custom 308 from GPS just because and a stainless Ruger #1 in .375. I know the Ruger isn't custom but it's an incredibly sexy single shot but a bit out of my pricey. -
Microstamping legislation

Or order an aftermarket firing pin, swap out barrels and more. These wanna be laws are plain stupid. -
The difference is that she moves without over sight. Every government official had a government email and emails are kept and monitored. The way she didbit, she could do and say whatever she wanted and no one would have been the wiser. You have to ask yourself... why would she want an email for work that's kept a secret from where you work? I know if one of my employees did it, I'd think it was suspect.

I was thinking u should have at least one in stainless. Reason being, I'd hate for it to be a rainy weekend opening season and I'm out there worrying if my rifle is getting too wet. If you have that one stainless, you can grab and go and put ur focus on staying warm and the hunt itself. Personally wood and blued steel is sexy to me but these are tools at the same time.

Are stainless barrels that much better than blued and are they really needed? Stainless can rust albeit slower than blued but is rusting that big of a concern when hunting?

I didn't even know about that cartridge. Guess I have some more reading to do. Since I've been in this site I've done so much damn reading it's ridiculous lol. -

The perfect North American pair

My best friend moved to Colorado and we have been toying with the idea but it's mostly me wanting a new one lol -
Been doing a lot of reading on N.A game hunting and rifles for the task. I may be off but I'm in agreement with what I read in a few articles stating that a rifle chambered in .270 zeroed for 130gr bullets and a 30-06 zeroed for 180gr bullets would make the perfect pair.
-
Who subscribes to the one is none and two is one concept when it comes to hunting rifles?... meaning who has one caliber but more than one rifle chambered for that caliber? If so, what's your reasoning?

I wanted to do some dry fire drills with my mark ll but didn't have any snap caps and I came across this cheap and plentiful alternative... #4 drywall anchors. I don't know if you knew about it so imma pass it on. Cheap 22LR Snap Cap Alternative:

Thanks guys

I'm looking at a hunting show and I know they cut out all the screw ups that us normal folks do but in the end, the guy took a nice sized elk with an arrow. So my question is why do hunters say that certain calibers like .308, .270 etc are too small or minimal for elk? What is that arrow doing at 400fps that a 130gr .270 round flying at 3000fps isnt?
-
It's 765 if u have fishing but if you look under it, it's 535 for just hunting.
-
Wow is all I can say
-
Question at 37 years of age, is the lifetime hunting only license for $535 worth it? I know it includes large and small game but does that cover turkey and fur bearers as well?
-
Damn that's crazy. Who'd think it would've been cheaper to shoot a 50 cal? Lol
