Guess DEC didn't confiscate the deer as was told here in an earlier post. Good for the kid!

I definitely think that shooting deer makes you a better hunter. Its experience in the execution of the final phase of the hunt. If you try to exclusively hunt trophy/mature deer its for sure not the hardest phase of the hunt, but it is a critical one. I definitely try to take at least 1 or 2 doe a year just to stay sharp.

Great buck! I'd say 3.5 age also, score wise I would think 120-25

Stayed home for the rifle opener. Had my choice of the Suffolk county parkland spots. Thank god for NE wind!

That's the Suffolk county parks permit spot? If so I'd call Suffolk park police, I would assume they would take care of it.

This year i'm off Oct 27 - Nov 24, then 5 day weekends through December.

Really good 2.5yr old or 3.5 year old

I kinda lean towards 2.5. Tons of potential for that deer -
Gotta agree 2.5/100"

Really depends on a lot of factors but if the deer is 20 yds+ I always try to stop them.

A 125 lb dressed doe is pretty big. Probably older than 1.5. Too many stories told every year of the mythical 200 lb does that get shot around here. I worked as a taxidermist for a few years and if I had a nickel for every "150 lb" doe

Good for you! You'll never see any good ones if you kill every small one that walks thru.

Thanks guys, very fortunate this year. And sometimes that bone soup almost smells edible

Tagged out on bucks as of yesterday. Guess it's time for doe slaying.
