Here is where our taxes go for Education
nyantler replied to Dave's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I went to school for 4 years , paid back tens of thousands in loans and work for myself... and have never taken a penny of taxpayer dollars to pay my salary, health benefits, or retirement... nobody here is saying that teachers aren't valuable... but try and deny that they have a part time job... make better money than the average full time job in the private sector, have better health benefits and a better retirement than the average private sector job.. and all of it comes from tax payers who are fed up with paying crazy taxes and getting little return on their investment... you must have missed all the examples that have been given of how out of whack things are... again your comments are spoken like a true teacher... and a good example of why things are like they are.. because you just refuse to see things for the way they really are... most of these posts aren't about our opinions of what's going on.. it's about the facts and what is really going on. -

Lottery Winner Still Gets Food Stamps???
nyantler replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I can believe that that anyone could make the statement " there are some people that blow through their lottery winnings and might need a safety net" ... are you kidding me???? I'll be back later after I patch the side of my head that just blew off... -
Now there is a guy with a real set of balls!!

I noticed that once all the facts and personal experience stories started coming out in some of the posts here... the old "teachers are underpayed and overworked" activists got a bit quiet... its so hard to argue against the facts. Teachers are an important part of the community and deserve to make a good living... but anyone that doesn't see how out of control things haven't gotten has to be either blind or ignorant.... oh no .. there's that word again! -
I always liked how the hunters dress in full camo and face masks while hunting out of a condo 15 ft in the air with just a small window to shoot out of...

The other strange thing here is that.. as soon as people heard the store was going out.. they rushed in and bought up all the inventory.. 2 months before the actual closing... it only took a few days for the store to go through almost all their inventory....

Although, wouldn't you think that when times are a little tight.. the dollar store might pick up business... I'm sure their business expenses are what makes it harder though... pretty bad when even the dollar store takes a hit.

There is nothing wrong with contributing to your community and the schools in the community... there is however something wrong with just property owners contributing to the community... and there is something wrong with someone else deciding how my money is spent without consulting me.. I have a problem with paying anyone a salary, benefits, and retirement that I will never recieve myself in the private sector... if our money is going to be used to run the community we should have the say about how it is spent.. not the teachers union or union backed politicians. That does not seem unreasonable to me... and if I am not going to have a say and teachers are going to get all those things that I (the person that pays their way) does not get... then at least turn out students that can read and write... and stop whining about how bad you have it and how tough your part -time job is... I like to at least get a kiss when I'm being screwed. -
My wife came back from a visit to the local dollar store for some shaving cream and deodorant.. she said.. "Wow! The dollar store is closing in town." my reply... " Was everything on sale??" LMAO

Not to mention the 18 year olds that the get to vote for the budget do not pay school taxes... pretty easy to vote for a budget increase when it isn't coming out of your pocket. -

Spoken like a true teacher..lol... yes it was an upstate public school... one that I attended and one that I currently pay taxes for... sorry that your reality isn't my reality.. my argument is purely based on numbers provided by the school and verified by myself... along with my personal experience having gone to the school 35 years ago... I can't speak to learning disabilities... we didn't have the ones that are common today back in the 70's.. you know?.. laziness, dontfeellikelearninghowtoreadosis, yourworkingmetoohardolepsy, of course the grandaddy of them all ADHD... but I think that's because our parents had the stopwhininganddowhatyouaretold vaccine...lol -

Lower the legal shooting distance for bow????

"I do feel the safety aspect of this change is totally being lost on you in favor of what you have convinced yourself that you need." Thats pretty much it... in a nut shell.. and likewise I wouldn't be starting any campaign for or against either... I would rather leave it to those that think it affects them... the law does not affect me and my opinion is it doesn't (or shouldn't) affect hunters enough to make a big stink about it... -

Here is my real bitch.. not individual salaries necessarily... but, for the sake of argument lets say a principle is worth $100,000... when I was in highschool... there were nearly 2000 students... 9-10th grade... and roughly 25 students per teacher... with one principle and one ass't principle...1 guidance councelor... the same school now has 750 students... 10-12th grade only... 3 principles.. 3 assistants... 4 guidance councelors and the teachers average 12 kids per and the school building is twice as large... so that $100,000 budget for a principle, just went to $300,000 for 3... I was very good at math in school and no matter how many times I go over the numbers they just don't add up... I sometimes wonder how I got such a better education than the kids in the same highschool today... we tested better, we had better sports teams, less kids on ritalin, all with less teachers, less staff, smaller school, and less money spent per student... somebody really needs to explain this one to me... I guess my teachers weren't good enough to make me understand how this kind of math works... I just don't see why everything doubled and tripled except the number of kids which dropped to almost a third of what it was when I went to school there. Must be some crazy kind of union math I've never heard of.. -

I am anxious to hear from those on the forum that continually say that those of us that don't trust the government are just paranoid... how about that.. our trustworthy congress has just turned the 1st amendment on it's head without so much as a small warning.. yet they still can't get a budget passed for years... its absolutely sickening... we are doomed!! -

If we weren't trying to figure out a way to hunt closer to our neighbors shed.. maybe we could think more about getting back in the woods where hunting was intended... and G-man.. I know you are one of the few like myself that have a genuine interest in conservation and look at the rules and regs in those terms, but lets face it... the majority of hunters only care about getting closer to civilization by changing the law because they are too lazy or not adept enough to hunt in the the wilderness... for most hunters its a good thing the minimum isn't also 500ft from a roadway... or 80% of hunters would always be in violation. I hear all the justifications being spouted by fellas concerned all of a sudden about the "overpopulation of whitetail and the dire need to adjust those populations by hunting in the school yards and shopping malls parking lots!" All they really care about is finding the easiest way to be able to tell their hunting buddies they got a buck this year. I wish it wasn't true, but it is. -

I hear that Dave... do you remember what the school librarian did when we were in school? I remember him sitting at the book checkout... while student library volunteers.. restocked books... occasionally he would give you a "SHHH" if he thought you were talking a bit loud... he did that 180 days a year... back then(1970's) he made nearly $40,000... a whopping amount of money back then... the librarian at the school now makes twice that, and has an assistant that makes about $50,000... I checked the student to teacher ratio for my old high school... 12 students for every teacher... wow.. thats tough..lol
