Attended a benefit today for a good friend with cancer that raised about $40,000 for the family... there was a silent auction there with a lot of cool outdoor stuff... I usually get outbid in the silent auctions and walk away empty handed... NOT TODAY... I put a bid of $100 on a brand new 3-man aluminum canoe and actually won! Can you say... "Fishing this summer on the Redfield Reservoir???"

I think facebook is a great way to stay in touch with old friends... and a great way to stay up on a lot of hunting related stuff... just because some people abuse facebook doesn't mean that facebook is a bad thing...there are a lot of married couples that use facebook to stay in touch with their kids at school or out of town relatives... I use it as a quick way to check out hunting related businesses and new hunting stuff as well as stay in touch with out of town relatives and friends... like Bubba says... people who don't like facebook most likely have never used it.

This blonde was driving out in the country and spotted another blonde sitting in a row boat out in the middle of a farm field... she got so angry at the stupidity of the blonde in the boat that she slammed on the brakes, jumped out of the car and hollered to the blonde in the boat.." If I could swim, I'd come out there and kick you ass!!"

Depending on what kind of buck you are talking about the tracks can tell you exactly what you are on. Big bucks leave big tracks... stagger is the most telltale sign... the distance between the right and left side... bucks have bigger chests than does and bigger bucks have a very wide stagger and much longer gate... the longer you follow a track the easier it is to tell how nice of a buck it is... I can sometimes tell the spread and tine length on a buck just by observing signs along the track. When a big buck feeds in the snow sometimes he leaves antler marks... sometimess just the tips of the beam , other times if he tips his head he will leave an impression of one side in the snow. Bucks also know exactly how wide their rack is and know what it will fit between... if you are following a buck that consistantly avoids passing through trees that are say 20" apart... it usually means his rack is wider than 20 inches... there are other signs to look for as well. As for small bucks which are closer in size to a doe... you can tell the sex by the placement of urine stains... a buck pees farther up than a doe when urinating so his pee stain will be forward in the track as opposed to behind the track for a doe... also during rutting season a bucks urine is a deep amber color, a does will be bright yellow. A single track in the mud would be nearly impossible to tell without guessing. http://www.nyantler-...etail-deer.html

Why are blacks loyal to Democrats?

With all due respect Bill.. go back in history and try to find one time where raising taxes led to anything other than more government spending... higher taxes = more spending = bigger government... it's just a fact... and the middle class takes the brunt of it all... we aren't rich enough where it doesn't matter and not poor enough to get a handout. -

Not true... Buddah and Allah are not worshiped the same way as our Christian God... Thor was a god, but was definitely not my God, nor were any other Greek gods... Allah and Buddah are also not the same at least in the eyes of a Christian... In the bible you will find that God speaks of himself as the "true" God and to put "no" other god before him... so God by any other name is not still God... but a false god in the eyes of a Christian... Allah and Buddah also do not have a son named Jesus that came to earth as a man and died so that your and my sins could be forgiven. -
Canned Venison is some of the best meat you'll ever eat!! http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/canning-venison.html

I will concede that if a good chef had to make a choice of whether to serve fawn or 7.5 year old buck.. he would probably choose the fawn meat... but I would bet that if he cooked the best cuts of both.. it would be hard to tell the difference... if both were processed correctly.
-
See? There is where the the cook comes in.. most people don't know how to cook meat so it is the "same" medium or well done... some peoples well done is browned all the way through, while others is burnt, some peoples medium is medium rare, others medium well... with all due respect...I'm betting against ya too Burt... And, if my mother -in-law cooked that meat you wouldn't even be able to tell if it was venison or an old sock!
-
Actually Pete.. I think the meat of a fawn would more tender in the raw form... but still have to say.. how it tastes is all about how its prepared... If a good cook prepared both... I would bet you couldn't tell one from the other unless you were told which was which.. I have had bad tasting fawn and bad tasting older bucks... and good tasting venison from each as well... so to answer your question...I think sometimes a 7.5 yr old buck might taste better depending on who is doing the cooking.

Powerful stuff right there! Be interesting to know what some of the African American hunters on this forum got from those two clips. -
depends on who you talk to... I have never read anything scientific on the subject of deer vs coyote... I do know that both have nothing on a bear when it comes to noses... the bear has the best nose in the world.
-
That is definitely world record material... man!

Sorry guys but I really have to laugh... I'll bet anyone on the forum that I can cook up venison and not a single one of you can tell me where the deer came from, how old the deer was, or what sex it was... even if the venison tastes like $h*T. Then afterwards I could tell you whatever I wanted and you wouldn't know either way. I'm not saying that some deer do not taste differently.. just that... how venison tastes is all about the cooking... the better the cook the better the meat. For example.. I always thought that venison ribs sucked!.. until a friend of mine who is a great chef cooked me some... it was probably some of the best venison I ever had... I have had gamey, tough, tender, sweet... all kinds of venison... always the best venison is the one cooked by someone that knows how to cook, no matter where it comes from... it's entirely about the cook... my mother-in-law could definitely take a tender piece of fawn backstrap and make it taste like a boot..So, much for fawn being the best... LOL
