  1. To my knowledge the buck has not been officially scored or entered in the NYSBBC... but the scores posted look pretty accurate as gross scores to me
  2. Because there is no reason to doubt until there is proof of wrong doing... you wouldn't like people questioning the legality of your deer without proof... still innocent 'til proven guilty in my book. There is no justification for accusing someone of something based on nothing. If someone has proof, provide it or shut up I say.
  3. Anyone stupid enough to go into the vast wilderness without the proper equipment... most likely will not have the smarts to survive if they get lost. I've been hunting the ADK's for 30 years and consider myself a pretty good woodman and survivalist... but I would never enter those woods without at least a compass and something to make a fire... and if you don't know how to properly use either of those two things... they will be useless to you anyway... in which case knowing a good prayer is helpful to make good with God before you die.
  4. I can say with certainty I will not be eating testicles... they might be great, but I don't swing that way.
  5. The difference is those guys did something wrong... this guy hasn't. The truth is some NY hunter's have never seen a buck that big and don't believe they exist in NY... LOL Those same guys question and deny anyone else's success until they get a deer... then they plaster their deer photos everywhere like suddenly they became the worlds best hunter... it's just how some people are... the old "ya can't fix stupid thing"
  6. That buck could possibly make 170... but only because it's a main frame 6x6... and has enormous mass... tines are not super long but there are a lot of them...there are also a couple points questionable as to where they come of the beam and if they have a common base with another point or not... it will for sure gross very high.. we'll have to see beyond that. This is one of those bucks that the score matters little as to how nice a buck it is. That buck will score as a typical probably if there are no issues with common points... only 2 extra abnormals otherwise
  7. there is another photo I'll post later
  8. Working on him now.. we'll have to wait and see
  9. Taken this morning near Perrysburg, NY
  10. He was apprehensive at first but is loosening up now and enjoying the biggest buck he ever shot. He even posted the buck on his Facebook page. I would love to know if its a white deer or a piebald... unusual for piebalds to get that mature without the roman nose and to be all white... it happens, but it's really rare.
  11. Ask your butcher about a spray they use to kill the ticks on the deer before processing... my butcher uses something, but I never thought to ask him what it was.
  12. My feelings exactly... much different than when some of us started hunting... the hunting culture is just not the same... I think access has a lot to do with creating that culture
  13. I read an article in Peterson's Hunting called "The Great Deer Decline"... It just happened to catch my eye because of all the same narratives going around about how the deer numbers are declining. The author talks about the "end of the good old days". The truth is that the deer "sightings" are declining which is a much different thing. I do agree that the amount of actual hunters out hunting seems to be dropping. Deer are not being pushed and are content with laying nice and cozy all day long without being interrupted by wandering hunters. I still believe that it all is more about how hunters are hunting than it is about deer numbers... add to that the decline in the number of deer hunters and it pretty much explains what is going on. Still no excuse for the DEC's doe only rule imposed this year... that's one I'm not sure any of us understand totally. I certainly don't see NY as overrun with deer.
  14. He would have gotten a "different" opinion had he been the guy that killed the biggest buck of his life in that area and saw numerous doe... the writer's opinion is based on his experience which is a valid opinion based on "his" experience. There are many factors involved in why hunters are or are not seeing deer. All opinions are strictly relative to any hunters personal experience in the woods. I'll bet you could find many hunters that would claim the opposite as the writer based on their hunting experience thus far. I'm not saying you're overrun with deer... but I'll bet it isn't as bleak as some might think
  15. Not a NY buck.. been claimed by many other states for years.
  16. Most official measurers will green score the bucks before the dry time, just because we enjoy measuring and seeing the rack in person!
  17. Remember that 35 acres is a small piece of land relative to deer hunting. Small pieces for deer can change simply by a neighbor doing something crazy with his adjoining property. I wouldn't pay a lot for small acreage, but I guess "a lot" is relative to the person spending it. Do what ever makes ya happy.
  18. There is a 60 day drying period before it can be officially scored for the books... in this case the Benedict buck was scored by an official measurer and is an official green score... meaning not done by the guy's brother in law that never scored a buck but learned how from a guy that never scored a buck ...
  19. That is a very good bear for NY... I think it's bigger than the pic makes it look
  20. The New York record is 22-7 so my bet is that this bear is not 22... but maybe the picture doesn't do it justice. Plus the skull is measured after boiling. They may have tried to measure it with the fur still on which would add about 4" to the measurement
  21. That buck will be on the website... it has been officially scored as a non-typical 189 gross... 170 net NT The score doesn't really do it justice because of the mass on the tines which only get scored for length not mass... the g2's are as big around as the beam! The fact that it's a 7x4 didn't help the score either. I don't know what the gross typical score was, but I'm guessing it was around 180
  22. we pay $3600 for 600 acres per year... that is about the going rate $6 an acre... I would never pay $700 for 35 maybe $200 - 225
  23. http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/2015-new-york-whitetails.html 9 pages .. over 250 bucks so far... enjoy!
