  1. Like some guys have already said.. soreness when working out is part of the game if you're doing it right... the fact that you're recovering by the next morning is a good thing... I use to do the hot tub before and after martial arts training for 25 years... never got rid of the pain totally, but loosened me up for my workout and eased the soreness afterwards. As long as you aren't experience long term pain, you're good.
  2. Although I fill my DMPs every year... I know I fall under that attitude... filling my DMP's is more of a necessity than anything for me... and I usually donate the meat unless I haven't taken a buck that year... in which case I'll keep one of the does for myself. I do usually get together with friends for DMP filling... so I do enjoy that part. I may be different in that I still fill the tags even though I don't get a kick out of doe hunting like I did years ago... I wonder if I would fill them if there was not a venison donation drive? Not really sure.
  3. Nothing special here... holds 40 cigars... I can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't much at the time.
  4. Careful... I have friends that said they'd never smoke a cigar... until I gave them a good one... now you can't stop them! LOL...
  5. yup... pretty much everything stays just like it is now except... the roles reverse over time... then the same problems as we have now... except that the doe age structure will be lessened and the buck population will explode... the scenario however would be interesting from a hunting standpoint at first, but then the same old same old after that with gender role reversals. The bitching from hunters about not seeing enough deer would not change.
  6. You got to admit that they know after they get caught.. like the family the thread is about.
  7. I find it disturbing that there are those here that would much rather allow their kid to break the hunting age law here in NY because they don't agree with the law (which I don't agree with either)... rather than take their kid on a hunt in a State where the kid is of age. Okay, I don't really find it that disturbing... just interesting. "But Joe... not everyone has the time or money to take their kid to another State hunting. I mean, it isn't that important that my kid hunts at 10 years old that I need to go to that extreme... It's easier to teach him how to break the law here over something of that little importance." Don't teach your kid to break a law you don't agree with... teach him/her how to fight to change that law. If we all learned that instead of learning how to circumvent laws we don't like, we might not be having this conversation.
  8. I think this is more common among hunters than you think... I would find it hard to believe that most hunters would spend as much time hunting a big doe they got on trail cam if they also had a 150+ buck on the same cam... something about a monster buck that makes it much easier to get out of bed and stay in the woods... I'm pretty sure there aren't many mature does that get a hunter's blood pumping and motivate them like a mature monster buck. That doesn't mean that most hunters wouldn't still hunt that doe if the buck was off the table, but not with nearly as much enthusiasm. Although I think women may not have the same drive towards the bucks as men... I think there is a macho element involved.. whether us men want to admit it or not.
  9. Well I think you all know by now that I have no agenda to push anything about hunting on anyone... I'm not big on the whole trophy buck managing either...and I don't think any deer hunter is a buck hater either in fact I have already stated many times that given the choice 99.99999999999999999% of hunters will shoot the a big buck over a doe... I used the term in reference to those here that get all balled up with the guys that like antlers when the subject of AR's comes up... if I had the time I'd go back a cut and paste all the unprovoked comments against antler hunters, big buck hunters, trophy hunters etc... all I can figure is, those guys must really hate bucks to get that upset with those that like to hunt them. The comments should be directed towards the hunter that is pushing his agenda, not all those that prefer hunting for bigger bucks... if you go back and read all the AR related threads... you will find plenty of "buck haters" in the way I intended it to mean... and I stand by the term as it was meant in my post.
  10. I like the peppery taste best... I try to buy cigars that hold the pepper and spice taste throughout the cigar. Most good habano wrapper cigars are peppery.
  11. LOL... We're talking about a hunting law here, not being oppressed and taxed to death by the British... My logic is merely that breaking the law because YOU don't agree with it is wrong... if you want to get a coalition together where all of you get together and do a hunt where all your underage kids shoots an animal that's a whole other thing... and is making a statement of protest about your belief with the participation of others... if everyone made their own decisions about which individual laws they would abide by based on their own opinion of the law... that would be just caos... no flaw in my logic.
  12. Thank you.. that's exactly where I was getting at... and there seems to be a disdain for those that just enjoy hunting bigger bucks... like we should be ashamed for liking antlers... hence the term "buck haters"... it worked for me.
  13. No surprise that you would disagree... and like I said in my last post "Someone who condones the law breaking of others are usually willing to break the law themselves".. still not surprised... and still doesn't change my opinion on the subject... it does however change my opinion of you.
  14. Don't apologize! It is disturbing and not the least bit funny... those that are condoning this families actions are the same guys that have already told us on other threads that they don't necessarily adhere to laws that they don't agree with... the rest of us are just "holier than thou" and "better than everyone else" and probably a few more things that will come up later in this thread.
  15. Wide, narrow, who cares?.. Having an opinion does not give you the right to break the law. By condoning it you are telling me you would break the law based on your opinion as well... either way I find that disturbing and not right. Simple and to the point... just because you don't find that disturbing and wrong... doesn't change my opinion.
  16. Thanks for helping my point... I knew it wouldn't take long. So the fact that someone may or may not stop at a stop sign for three seconds justifies breaking or condoning breaking all other laws? ... or just the laws you don't like we can break if people don't stop at stop signs? It gets kind of confusing for me... maybe you mean that because YOU think the law is absurd... it's open season for anyone to break that law? I think the best idea is to have no laws at all, because every law has somebody out there that doesn't think its a good law.
  17. I find it more disturbing that some of you think that breaking the law because you don't like the law is okay. Having the opinion that you don't like the law is fine... condoning the breaking of that law because of your opinion.. not fine at all.
  18. In NY state I think we'll never know the answer to this question... there isn't much chance of the buck population taking over the doe population in this state... although with all the buck haters on here, who knows?... It is the new thing on hunting forums to have disdain for those that enjoy buck hunting... until, of course, that buck hater gets one himself... then it's the old, "I just want to thank God for allowing me to harvest my best buck to date." The real answer is... The hardest deer to kill, is the one you haven't killed yet. Regardless of gender.
  19. Most of the tobacco now days and since the embargo is grown from Cuban seed anyway... other country have gotten very good over the years at producing quality tobaccos... Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic produce cigars that are as good or better than any Cuban you'll ever smoke. Cuban cigars are still quite good, but not any better than cigars made in other countries today. The mystique of the Cuban cigar comes from not being able to legally get them for 50 years. Their dominance in the market place no longer exists.
  20. In my case it would be hard catching me having fun (which is when most people tend to take pics) where I don't have a cigar in my mouth. Especially if I'm at camp... and if you don't smoke cigars I could see how you might think it's strange... kind of like the old Harley saying "If I have to explain it, you probably wouldn't understand"
  21. I will have to try it for sure... no bourbon in my Manhattan though... Crown only here. Well at least if I'm making them... if you're offering me one, bourbon will be fine..
  22. There must still be a few more deer that you've killed that haven't meant much to you that you haven't told us about yet .
  23. I do agree that everyone enjoys hunting for a different reason... but even those that say "nothing would change" would find that something was missing from hunting if bucks were off limits... I find it funny how the "meat hunters" that say the old adage "you can't eat the horns" are awfully excited when they kill their first big buck and can't wait to show everybody... I still say most talk a good game when they say nothing will change for them, but I'm not buying it... and I believe those that really would choose doe hunting over buck hunting could be counted on one hand... but if it makes them feel better to say otherwise, who am I to burst their bubble. But I'm still not buying any of it...
  24. I think it changes things... the whole majesty of the whitetail comes from the beauty of the mature antlered buck... the hormone change in the buck that comes with the production of antlers is what makes the buck so interesting... like the male of the human species.. we are different in our internal make-up than woman... the testosterone is the difference. The buck's antlers are what separates it from the doe population and gives it the magnetism that entices hunters into wanting to hang it on their wall... without antlers a whitetail really has no majesty and is just another cute animal in the forest. Indians that hunted the whitetail for food and relied on that food for survival still sought bucks with large antlers.. and sported them on head dressings as a symbol of their hunting prowess.. the huge whitetail buck has never lost that mystical quality and without it deer hunting would still exist... but would not be the same. This is pretty much true for all game animals that sport antlers... it is a defining property of the animal that cannot be ignored.
  25. Wow what a great cigar box... did you make it or buy it? I can tell it's not a cedar lined box so it wouldn't be good for humidifying cigars, but man it is cool looking.
