    Wooly

Here's one a friend of mine did
  2. The scary part is that they have no idea that it is broken.
  3. You must not have read my post about having offered up the idea to two NY DEC biologists at a deer forum I was invited to attend... and that they shrugged off the idea as not necessary. I don't have all the answers either... but I do have the advantage of having seen a lot that goes on inside of the state over the years and the attitudes of those making many of the decisions... which is my personal reason for not being surprised that simple solutions get passed up all the time in the public sector by "important people" that if they we're really as smart as they think they are would be doing what they do in the private sector.
  4. I don't know that they don't... or maybe they have a better way that you and I haven't heard of yet... but the plan Doc and I have is quite simple and covers most everything... to say otherwise is just being argumentative for the sake of debate... which I understand is part of what we all like to do on this forum... and yes I do think most of what "doesn't" get done anywhere in the public sector has everything to do with bureaucracy. Good example would be the billion dollar Obamacare website that could have been done for $5 million in the private sector.
  5. Bet you also didn't know that if you jaywalked and didn't rob a bank afterwards then it is okay to break other laws. I am learning so much today!
  6. Having worked for the state.. I'm sure that the reason many simple things don't get done has a lot to do with someone possibly losing a job like Doc said. We had an office that fought computerizing in favor of paper pushing for a few years because it meant some of the workers would lose their jobs. Downsizing is very hard for bureaucracies to accept.
  7. No I agree... I also agree there are a lot of things we can't do like Ohio.. mainly because we're not Ohio
  8. Well geez... you doing all those things at a young age really does put things in perspective.. that changes my mind totally... I mean if you did illegal stuff when you were a kid it must be fine for everyone else... just the fond memories alone makes me want to support lawlessness... and the part about the hammer and safety glasses is epic... kind of opens my eyes to laws that I suddenly don't agree with... I could have created so many good memories with my kids when they were younger by stealing all the things they wanted for Christmas that I couldn't afford... and I certainly will feel better now about climbing the pole in front of the house to steal my cable TV... or running an extension cord to my neighbors to get free electricity... you have made me realize how I have been missing the boat all these years, Psst... I have to admit I did remove one of those tags off my mattress as a kid, so I suppose it is ok if some guy lets his underage kid shoot a deer then tag it illegally. I can't believe how easy it is to justify lawlessness... all you have to do is just say you broke the law once and it makes everything else fair game as well.
  9. But here are the numbers for some years in between Hunters killed more than 261,000 deer during the 2009-10 season after tagging about 252,000 the season before. The kill has dropped annually since, from 239,400 in 2010-11 to 191,400 in 2013-14. not as weird any more
  10. Ahh.. I didn't pick up on that... sorry... thought you were labeling pro predators as liberal.. my bad
  11. Very good stuff... proves that deer have the advantage of knowing their stomping ground very well... I found it interesting too that the bucks picked the highest point in their area when the pressure was on.. that has always been lore passed down by older deer trackers.
  12. None of your examples have anything to do with protecting a Constitutional right... if you start losing that right in one state, the rest of the states could fall behind it. And, WE didn't elect him... THEY did.. most of WE didn't even get out to vote and I'm betting because they have a similar thought process as you... I tend to give you a little bit of a pass though.. you're the same age as my sons and, like them, it isn't that you're not able to get it... you just have a lot to learn yet.
  13. Absolutely right... and it never hurts to put the bad guys on law enforcement's radar.
  14. Do you really see being pro-predator as liberal? Does that include bear? Just wondering... "your beliefs are fine and you're entitled to them" of course.. but do you understand that just because some of us don't see the need to eradicate coyotes doesn't mean that we don't enjoy hunting them.. If understanding that predators are a necessary part of the wildlife equation is "pro-predator".. then I am sure most intelligent people would be pro predator. I don't even remotely get how the remarks of ignorant buddies at deer camp would justify equating being pro-predator to liberalism.
  15. Well it definitely ain't rocket science if I came up with it...LOL Makes you wonder though why it has never been tried.
  16. Yeah if everyone did that in every state instead of voting in people that protect their Constitutional rights, there would be no place left to move. Cutting and running in this fight is not an option if the 2nd Amendment is going to survive anywhere. Defeatist attitudes are exactly what the anti's are looking for. I did the Math.. if only half of the NYS gun owners got out and voted last election instead of sitting home on their asses we would have a different governor and that much closer to repealing the SAFE act. Apathy is not the answer!
  17. I'm afraid it's looking that way... lots of apathetic gun owners... not surprising after seeing the amount of gun owners that didn't feel it was necessary to get out and vote during the last election.
  18. What's the old saying? "When one door closes, another one opens." Sometimes the best moments of your life are created from just these kind of transitions. Good luck.
  19. Some of you have some very interesting recipes... I'm always looking for good recipe submissions to put up on my website ... http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/venison-recipes.html ... not just venison either. I'll consider any good game recipe... you can either upload the recipes yourself on the site or email them to me at [email protected]... I will give you ( or your grandmother) full credit for the recipe if you like... I like all the different ideas here... thanks in advance Oh yeah.. if you have photos of the dish.. even better!!
  20. Hey, I believe fencing is an Olympic sport... ya never know!
  21. We all know that even with 100% reporting there will never be 100% accuracy because of the lack of integrity of some hunters to report truthfully... but I would think the margin of error would be much lower if everyone reported.. a simple method where if you don't report you don't get a license again until you do... that would go for the lifetime licenses as well... regardless of how you report, you must report... whether by phone, computer or in person... whichever turns out to be most economical for the DEC. Everyone that hunts must buy a license each year.. that is when the reporting must be done (for lifers maybe by phone).. BUT.. no matter how, you don't get the new years tags until you do. .. like Doc says, in this day of computers there shouldn't be a lot of cost involved.
  22. This is one of the reasons why NY can't get anything done in the way of good deer management... the selfish hunter.. NY is loaded with them... my guess would be that 95% of hunters couldn't care less about proper game management (ie. conservation)... we might be better off letting the deer population explode and eliminate tags all together.. let hunters shoot all the deer they want. Whack 'em and Stack 'em. That seems to be what hunters really want. LOL.. unfortunately the same 30% of hunters would still be killing the same amount of deer
  23. I think that when they hear the words "save time and money" they immediately think someone's losing their job...lol
  24. Maybe because it's a food item you might be able to... as a health issue. Not sure.
  25. That is exactly the plan I proposed and it was basically shrugged off as not really important or necessary... like I said, I found that quite odd. They were very adamant about their figures being extremely accurate when done statistically... don't ask me how they know that, but they seemed pretty sure of themselves and showed little, if any, interest in my plan.
