  1. Saw Jerry Miculek on 'Impossible Shots' use one of these in a segment. He shot an off-hand 1.5-1.7 inch group, at 200 yards with it.. and that wasn't the impossible shot.. Looks sweet, if you don't mind the 'black gun' look.. Anyone have/handle one of theses?
  2. Sweet! May you bag many animals with it!
  3. Anyone watch this?? I like it because its sorta like the 'Harlem Globetrotters' of the shooting sports.. Nothing you'd actually do yourself, but fun to watch..
  4. Years ago, I heard they caught 2 FBI guys in Hecksher bowhunting in off schoolhouse road. I'd say they get guys every year, because they now post the perimeter in the fall with signs, STATE PARK - NO HUNTING blah blah..
  5. The levers guns feel great to carry too.. I have a 444, and a win94 in 30-30.. I passed on a 39a and kick myself every time I think of it. I looked at a Henry 22 lever in Dicks a month ago, and THAT was a buttery smooth action..
  6. Check out 'whitetail antlers' on ebay before hacking up a set like that. You'll be able to buy a nice set of knives, and a dinner to boot..
  7. I had the 308 sector car here filing a report, and he's not the most ambitious patrolman, so he was killing time running his mouth.. The conversation was wide ranging, and included him telling us that he drove into Hecksher the day of a shoot & saw DEC, but not in the typical uniforms. Upon questioning exactly who they were, he was informed on what was going on. I told him to drop any fresh deer roadkills on my lawn. A friend told me a few years back we was turned away on a Sunday morning from the park entrance for the same reason.. As for gunshots, almost every sat morning I hear the waterfowl hunters from my bed.. I don't think it would be an issue from neighbors. I'd gladly pay a fee to hunt the park since I could walk in..
  8. Nice Bag Tim! Really, 8 till march? I though Feb 13 or 14 was the last day.. I wouldn't want you off my yard blasting away, so I wouldn't consider doing it myself to someone else.. Just on the island so far, just getting into it. Boat's been packed away from fall, so it's land hunts only for me.. I think I'm going out to fireplace neck Friday If I can arrange it..
  9. Yeah, it's Vets Highway, and his cousin Sunrise! I know people who live behind the park, north of the water dept offices. Monster deer. I though he pruned back the shrubs, but he said never, he's got a 5 foot browse line on all their shrubs.. All kidding aside DEC did a cull shoot in Hecksher this year so I'd bet they hit a few other spots as well..
  10. From these PR postings, I'd suggest Don King emcee the annual meeting.. One problem with clubs like this, is people drop alot of cash and some feel that they 'are getting theirs' one way or another for it.. Toss in the 'Me-firsts' and 'Antler-Mania', some stupidity, it can get pretty ugly.. Prime example of why many big hunting camps are things of the past.. I'm not a member, so this will be a generalization/suggestion off whats been posted by several one here.. Any violations of game laws should be reported when safe to do so.. As for the 'leasing' of lands during the offseason, check into the clubs bylaws about this, and what the membership entitles you to. If it states the club lands are for 'member use only', it may be a breach of the membership agreement on the clubs end, and the board should be questioned.. or your lawyer contacted.. As for small gamers disrupting deer, I had an article somewhere that a study was conducted to check into this. Deer came back into the area within 1-2 hours of the dogs/small gamers passing though.. Deer choose where to live for a good reason, and getting bumped by a dog/hunter inst a reason for permanent relocation.. Not the end of the world, but if your only hunting the morning sit, it would be a problem..
  11. Nice buck. He must have had a great spot to get that old, cause once a rack like that is spotted, he's targeted anyway possible.
  12. I've had someone use the actual tree I scouted out the day or two before I was hunting the spot. Once, I hunted some DEP land during archery, nobody, ever.. Southern gun opener, LOL couldn't even park! It pays to spend a few hours scouting secondary spots nearby. They may not be the prime spot, but with the orange army running amuck, deer will go just about anywhere to escape..
  13. The middle of the country has 'oil shale'. Fractured rock saturated in oil, as compared to the free-er flowing, traditionally though of oil wells. At $30 a barrel, recovering the oil from the rock was cost prohibitive. At $100, it is profitable. Interesting thing is, the government ALREADY controls it all, so who's BSing who on the who's manipulating the oil supply? Check this out-http://dailyreckoning.com/oil-shale-reserves/ The only 'going green' going on it the cash leaving the American citizens wallets one way or another..
  14. The gun violence statistics in this country are manipulated just like everything else is. When you drop gang related shootings from the statistics pool, the shooting rates plummet. I doubt the smaller communities you mention have ongoing 'turf' wars between rival gangs. Also, when you have 9 million residents, it can be used to manipulate the statistics a bit. There are a few rough sections of town that are like war zones I wouldn't even drive through, yet get minimized over all by the other neighborhoods crime levels being 'normal'. Law of averages. Toss in NYPD brass' pressure to 'under-report' crimes to generate better 'cop-stat' statistics and yes, it seems Bloomy & Rudy are doing great.. But they're still riding with armed security themselves, so what's up? They don't believe the reports either I guess.. And neither do I. I still want the option of defending myself over waiting for 911 to respond. If Bloomberg wanted to REALLY make a difference in peoples daily lives, he's outlaw cigarettes, fast food & cars.. All kill more people annually than guns, in America.. Oh wait, those FUND the states though taxes so we can't make them impossible to attain.. This isn't about 'caring' about gun violence as Doc pointed out, Bloomberg has a personal agenda he's promoting, and because he's a zillion-are, his point of view is more important than mine, yours, laws, or the Constitution.
  15. Nice! When I make jerky I try to make myself scarce as well or else it vanishes..
  16. Thanks for all the advise. I have the permit from deer hunting & the brochure for the tidal spots. Tpoint is down the block, so no matter how productive, I won't complain about not bagging anything. I held back on taking shots where the birds would fall over the ice because I didn't want to chance getting stuck out there. Anything I attempted would have fell on land, somewhere.
  17. I packed out empties I picked up, but stopped when that pouch on my bag became full.
  18. My friend had a good laugh at my 4's as well.. He recommended bb or 1's for the far shots, so I'll be stopping by dick's or walmart in the next day or two.. Is it better to hunt waterfowl mornings or afternoons?
  19. The reviews on Cabelas/redhead have guys raving by the silhouettes as well.. They look like 'sharpened' photos printed on some type of vynil/plastic..
  20. 100% venison sausage will be dry, dry, dry.. Uncle was given a bunch years ago, and no cooking method could salvage it.. Personally, after processing the deer, Im a bit worn out by the time its sausage time. I get 2 huge tubes of Jimmy Dean pork breakfast sausage from the club, and mix another 2 parts of ground venison to it, and shape up patties. Tastes great, and has the distinct venison flavor still..
  21. We make stuffed cabbage pretty regularly as well. Rolling them is usually the PIA part of the job, and this way eliminates it.. My wife will think very highly of you! Thanks!
  22. I am looking into getting some to improve my odds. I'm looking for decoys for a field/ground spread I can set out myself, so weight is a concern. What brand/type do you guys recommend, or avoid? Thanks.

  24. We did an Sr/Jr Handicap league this summer & took 1st. I hadnt bowled a league in 20 years. I started with a 132 Avg, and finished with 131.. Still trying to get that hook to work.. My daughter, on the other hand is the real deal. She bowls for her high school since 7th grade, and is carrying a 210 this season. We'll be making the trip to Syracuse this year for the HS bowling championships.
