  1. Still awaiting a pic of stormy's new jeep. But the new pistol pick makes it worth the wait.
  2. Started doing some of the pack out today. Plan was to wash hunting cloths and treat with Sawyers. Ma nature slapped that down. Double checked to make sure everything's in my hunting pack that needs to be, first aid kit, knives, compass, hot hands, blah blah. Put my maps in zip lock bags to keep them dry if I am out or get caught out in the rain. Swapped emergency blankets from my larger fire kit to the first aid kit, and made a super small EFK, and leaving the bigger fire kit home. Made sure to add my wife's blaze orange hunting vest in the tote with my hunting clothing so she's seen when we go hiking. Went back over the list of food we are taking from home. Made a new list of things I still have to do. Got all the proper paperwork for the dog out and ready to go. Starting to debate which deer rifle to take if I go out for the 26th. One swings a little better, the other is lighter. I don't shoot at running deer, so now I am hemming and hawing, LOL. Those good type of butterflies are really starting to rumble the closer Monday gets.
  3. Looking like more of two trains smashing into each other then a derailment. Weather is looking a bit snotty a few days. Really hoping the rain is evenings or over night. At least it should be quiet walking through the woods.
  4. NO! I can never convey this more profusely, NO! You two need to stay downstate!
  5. Crossing swords? That's just so wrong! Can we please keep the love affairs that have blossomed from you folks drunken GTG's out of this! Thanks. As for getting the deer out, already covered this somewhat. I will most likely have to quarter the deer and pack it out. I will take plenty of video and pics to make sure DEC knows what the deer was and that it was legal and I had tags. 3 points on one side, no does. I really am not happy about having to keep the bucks organ in a cooler. If that's what I have to do then that's what I'll do. We rented a cabin, the cabin has a fridge with a freezer, so once processed the meat will go in the freezer. Yes we have access to ice to fill a cooler we brought with camp meat in it, so will use it to get the meat home safely from a kill. Not sure how much more I can convey this one.
  6. WATER PROOF MATCHES! Pretty sure you have them but in wet conditions these help.
  7. WAIT! If you are lost I will be there Monday! Just stay put and I will find you!
  8. Are there any guardrails near by? I hear they are a great way to get un-lost.
  9. Were you now? LOL I know, maybe, Um, I dunno... Just putting clarification out there.
  10. Already been answered. Please read the whole thread before posting. LOL
  11. I'm sure that would work out well. Stormy in his mask, you in you Gi, and me. LOL!
  12. I will ask the first tree I encounter upon slipping into the woods from the side of the road if it has one. I already bought a hat the last time I was up there. The only souvenir I hope to bring home is meat for the freezer, and the antlers to put on a plaque.
  13. Now I have to quote @Buckmaster7600 , you don't spend much time in the real Adirondacks do you? Once you get off main roads in some areas, you can drive a long time and not see anything, no houses, no electric lines or poles, and certainly to trails. Yes, I want to get out there. It's not really big woods hunting if I'm on a trail from a tourist park.
  14. You must have a scary black rifle that strikes fear into hearts if you're not taking ammo. Just kidding. I would still be taking a small folding saw with me personally. Never knew how effective they really are until I bought one last Spring. Be careful in marshy areas in below freezing temps. Ice is never your friend. Sounds like you have it covered. Best of luck out there on your hunt. Looking forward to seeing the pics of your camp set up and hopefully a dead deer or two.
  15. It was a joke Bill. Relax. My deepest apologies that I forgot to put an LOL at the end. I will take this into consideration. Really not my style to hunt over or on trails though. But again, some of the places I plan to hunt do not have trails, so what does that mean? There are no trails to walk on. One last time, just to be clear, when there are no trails where you are hunting, you cannot walk on trails. Honestly, really, there will not be trails in all the areas I want to hunt. I really don't think this is so hard to understand. Or is it?
  16. My first question is what are you doing for shelter? I am assuming you have maps, at least one compass, axes, a good folding saw, spare batteries for lamps etc. ( batteries burn out faster in the cold ), and good comfortable boots for trekking long distances. WOOL! Seriously, I think people make fun of me when I say that, but good wool will keeep you warm even when it's wet. It retains heat.
  17. I always have some orange marking tape in the pack. Maps and a couple compasses for navigation, no GPS. As for hunting trails...... No, that's not how I hunt. Most of the area I will be in won't have trails or even parking areas. Pull of the side of the road parking. I'm not hunting Stewart State forest with parking lots and woods roads. C'mon man! Rob here, not Bill.
  18. Not really. Just have heard good things about the hunting and fishing back in there. So, I am thinking perfect place to get some hunting in, and try out the new fishing kit I made as well. Lotta places to fish and hunt the same outing up there. But that's the only place I have put a definite mark on the map to hit. There's also the fact that where we'll be staying has canoes included in the rental. So, If I want to make sure I don't have other hunters around me, I can put my gear in and paddle across Indian Lake, weather would have to be all but perfect for a paddle though. 15 MPH winds on those lakes and depending on headwind, I may not even make it across the lake and drown. Like I said, I have been planning this for almost a year now, and I am not going in stupid, just a bit blind as to what's on the ground as for the woods being thick.
  19. I was joking ya know? I already said where I am going. Where I will be hunting....Depends on how I feel and how far I feel like driving for that hunt. I know no matter what, I want a morning in Siamese Ponds.
  20. Ya know, that you much for that reminder. She just bought a new day to day coat and a new hunting coat, I have idea what color the day to day coat is. I will make sure to pack her and my orange vests for hiking. I plan to take my neon green/black cold weather hat for that reason for myself. Surprisingly enough, it does not seem to bother deer, but it can be seen for a ways off. Thanks for that heads up Culver.
  21. Great video! Thanks for sharing the hunt with us.
  22. OH! I want to add, If I see any creepy cars or folks not staying in the camp, I will know it's you stormy! I just decided to take my trail cam and set it up over looking our cabin! So if you plan to keep your identity a secret, don't be nosin' round buddy! I will post your mug shot all over every outdoor forum I know of, even if I have to join! If you wear your mask then I will surely know it was you! LMAO! I had to post this up...
  23. Not exactly "Live", as I haven't used my phone/Tapa talk to log into any site since last April. Let an OK 6 pass this morning. I can't burn my bow tag down here, I need it next week up north.
  24. Whitahall is almost on the VT border east of Lake George. South/east and over two hours away from where I will be hunting. I said I was hunting in the dacks- big woods, not the sub-burbs. If I see a dude in an ape suit following me around the middle of the Adirondack Mountains, I will be sure and say hello to you stormy. Make sure the creepy pic you take of me gets my good side.
  25. I don't mess around up there. I may not get to have the Dacks as my main hunting ground, but I have been up there enough to know the risks. I appreciate you making sure I have the basics covered.
