Good on you grampy! Ushering in a new generation of hunters is priceless! Thank you for going this.

That gave me a full laugh out loud moment right there. I would have to think so. It does get hunted hard, mainly on weekends, but it does get the heck hunted out of it.
-
Well? I had no power most of Thursday, and I was camping all weekend so I am curious to know how this worked or is working out.

As I mentioned, what they are doing there is of no real concern to me as an area to hunt. When I did hunt there, I can say I did not care for it much, but it was close to home back then. I could never get used to all the noise that's part of urban hunting. I like being in the woods, not in a park environment for hunting. I just feel bad for the people who do hunt it, and seem to enjoy it.

Who?

Oh, it's your Birthday? Best wishes on this day. Merry Christmas and all that jazz...

That was my thinking. They cut more that will hurt the deer population then help it. That area is too small for this type of clear cutting. But as you said Matt, they know what they are doing.

Damn! Glad you are OK. You may feel it in the morning though. Shock can many times hide an injury or pain. Hoping you didn't bust yourself up and even in the morning you are OK. Be careful out there folks! It doesn't take much to really mess yourself up.

Oh, I cannot wait for the end result of this one. This could be epic in a very explosive way. Hope the pooch is OK.

I had a dude in my group years ago, that made this all the time. I hated it! It was bland. I started making it on my own recently, and now I love it. I do the bare minimum for ingredients, no milk or butter. It's not hard to make really, but the key is you have to pay attention to it while its cooking. The last batch I made with the jalapenos I made a little more then I intended too and I got a bit glutinous with it. This is a great camp bread for those cool nights at camp or in the yard. It's so versatile you really are only limited by your imagination.

Bot with all the new open areas, may be an issue with people on I90 blasting their horns if they see a bow hunter up in a tree.

Just plain stupid! All the hokey crap this store is pulling is getting laughable now. It's too bad none of this is hurting them where it counts. Now, I plan to sit back and watch the fireworks about "F-Them, I don't buy anything.. BOYCOT!" yadda yadda.......

Base: Basic flour Baking powder Salt Water EVO to cook it in I like dicing up a fresh jalapeno when I make it. For this trip I'll be making the dry base up at home, and adding water when I get ready to cook it. I am going with flour, salt, baking powder, and some garlic powder for this one to go with the chili-mac ( by buddy doesn't like spicy food ). I just mix it all in a zip lock bag, snip the end of the bag off and squeeze into pan. Easier clean up in the field that way.

I thought Bill was the king of mundane. You just gained some ground. Do you have some odd fetish you want to tell us about? I bet there's a lot of twisted pervs who would buy pics of your feet. Go for it. Do what makes you happy, Hike Your Own Hike. LOL

Jeep wangler/ Rubicon how do they drive ?
DirtTime replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
So where's the pics of this new Jeep? You cannot be officially a member of the 'crew' without pics. Just came across this thread. I'm selling a '98 Grand Cherokee Laredo, I could have made you a good deal. That was back in the days when a Jeep was still a Jeep! I'm asking $3000, but for you Stormy- I would have gone as low as $5000, and thrown in a map of the Adirondacks. -
There and Featherstonhaugh.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't hunt the area anymore, so I really don't make a point to keep up on what's going on. Like I said though, two huge chunks were all but annihilated.

I'm also hoping this weather trend sticks. Not looking forward to another early bow season wiping sweat off my face just sitting. I have a backwoods camping trip coming up this weekend. Going to be chilly up in the lower dacks- a high of 68* for Saturday, with Friday and Sunday slightly cooler. Nights in the lower to mid 40*'s. Going to have to make sure we get forage a good amount of firewood for this trip. Looking forward to the colder temps at night a little- I get to make up some chili-mack and bannock for Friday night. Might get them grey squirrels a little more active as well. Can't have an early September camp like this without getting some hunting in, even if it is tree rats.

That could be. It wouldn't surprise me much. I hear "rumors" about them selling off part of the land sometimes, and IIRC they have. Last I knew the locals were trying to put a stop to that and had won. Not sure really, don't keep up on the area anymore. Just a little surprised to see a huge area torn up like that.

I wasn't asking you to teach anyone anything. I was asking what steel you used for this build, and what sort of grind you put on the blade edge to retain sharpness.

We still have our vet for our dog in Schenectady. We had to take her in this afternoon. We pass the APB on the way there from the Thruway. WOW! They cut the $h1t out of that place! I know they do regular burns over there to combat ticks and underbrush, but this was clear cutting and hacking. The area East of 155 was cut down leaving a few trees left, but not many. West of 155 they took they down so much you can see Kings Rd. from the Thruway. I'm not sure about the area behind the visitors center, or the area over by the industrial parks ( I don't remember the names of those streets off the top of my head right now). That place isn't very big to start with, and gets way over pressured most of the time. It looks like all the folks who hunt that place are going to be packed like sardines into a couple smaller areas. I sincerely wish all who hunt there from this site the best of luck.

It would be so cool to see the sketches you make for the build of how to make sure it all works together as a folder. It would also be awesome to see some pics on how you cut and grind the blades and then sharpen. I would also be interested in what kind of grind ( edge ) you give the blade- Hollow, Scandi, convex, sabre, etc. . I am not busting your balls, just honestly curious. I have been watching and reading a few different custom knife forums, and for pure custom knife making I find it pretty damn interesting for some part. Aside from the above mentioned on edge grind. I like to read about the steel used, heat treatment, + - scale, and what the blade can be used for. I like functional over pretty.

I started using this stuff about 6 years ago. Before that it was just name brand bug spray with a good amount of Deet. In the time I have been using Sawyers, it was always for 6 weeks, and I treat every 5. I only treat outer layers, and nothing that will make this stuff contact my skin. I may be one of the few, but I had a reaction then I treated a base layer and then after climbing a mountain and sweating it soaked into my skin leaving a rash. So I still use use some sort of bug spray with at least 30-40% Deet on my exposed skin and first layer when needed. I do treat my hub blinds with it, even thought I rarely use them, it's just piece of mind I guess. Sawyers isn't that expensive, a 12oz bottle at most places ( at least where I buy from ) is only $10. I spend roughly $100 a year to treat my clothes, my wife's clothes, and both blinds. I don't have a lot of cash to just throw around, but this is one investment I am glad to pay.

Are you ACTUALLY MAKING THE KNIVES or just PAINTING THEM?
