  1. Had 5 deer come past this am between 8-9, one spike grunting and following a doe and fawn. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  2. Had two 5 pts and a button buck cruise by at 12yds this morning. 1 was definitely searching and the button and the other 5 were feeding/chasing each other. Beautiful morning, almost too quiet Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  3. You'll definitely want to use sabots out of a fully rifled barrel. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  4. Buck I killed a few years ago during archery. Had a deformed rear leg from a car I'd assume, his hoof kept growing and was about 6" long because he couldn't walk on it. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  5. I'm not sure where you are shopping but around CNY if you walk into a box of 35 whelen on the shelf you got lucky. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  6. Same price/couple dollars more than 30-06. About $25-30 a box for whitetail soft points. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  7. Out of any of the shortmag calibers you're most likely to find this one, I've never walked into a gunshop or a Walmart that didn't have it on the shelf. You're 20X more likely to find this than some of the other recommended offerings in this thread (35 whelen, 338 Win, 358 Win). I can't really speak to an extremely remote location but I wouldn't forsee an issue in most instances. And if you are primarily whitetail hunting with the occasional elk/moose hunt I think the 300 is about perfect, not crazy overloaded for deer and perfect for anything else. 8. 300 WSM. Short action, can be had in the 20-22" barrel, easy to find ammo at any gun store, large variety of bullet weights/construction. Like a short action 06 with a little more oomph... Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  9. Let's not forget to throw the Remington 710 into the garbage pile as well... Of all of the bargain rifles out there today, Remington is by far the cheapest. I'd take an American or Axis any day over these. Having said that I love the 700 line and have never had an issue. I wouldn't take a 710, 770, 783 for free. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  10. 5 does so far, something spooked them by me at 25 yds, apparently they don't know they're supposed to stop when I bleat... Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  11. Snowing steady in 7M... Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  12. Kill time is about it. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  13. I'm going hunting. Go annoy someone else. Keyboard warrior. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  14. Go ahead and call someone out. Just don't get all butthurt when you don't agree. And clearly the DEC cares what you think... They asked you what you thought about the no buck rule before they did it right? Not. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  15. That's all I'm saying. We will all never agree but we all have the right to an opinion no matter how wrong it seems to someone else... Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  16. Get over yourself... If you can't stand to read my opinion and realize everyone has one and because I don't agree with you or whoever else I shouldn't have a say also is absurd. I don't need to glamorize my ego by calling out people specifically because they may disagree. Read it and move on. If you think its you then that's your call. Cry somewhere else. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  17. That's MY OPINION for the 3rd time... If its not yours then fine... After all this is an OPINION thread right? I never once called you, WNY Buckhunter, any of the above but if you think you fit the profile I described then so be it. You are reading my thread with a negative/paranoid filter in your mind. 18. I never accused anyone in particular of being a trophy hunter. But to the guys not hunting at all because they might see a deer they can't shoot is ridiculous, to ME. I still hunt after I've filled my buck tag and there is a possibility I'll see an even better buck, that's the chance you take. I never once agreed with this rule, I don't think its right either. But to the guys that say they aren't setting foot in the woods because of it I believe are foolish...Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  19. I know people in these affected areas and as many on here they are not thrilled with this rule but guess what... They aren't sitting around whining about it on a keyboard. They are out there hunting because that's what they love to do. If some people on this forum put as much effort into hunting as they do arguing about things that aren't going to be "solved" on a public forum they'd be deadly in the woods... Debates are fun, but at the end of the day I wait all year to sit in a tree with my bow and I wouldn't let this rule stop me from doing just that. If you truly are a "trophy hunter" then maybe staying out of the woods is a valid point, but for the vast majority I say, "Just get out there and hunt." That's MY opinion... 20. I've tried quite a few different types, in my opinion lumenoks were the worst, (maybe they've improved the last few years?) I also had a few shut off on me when hitting a deer or passing through a deer and impacting something that jars the nock ever so loose, I also used to have them turn on in my soft case in the back of the truck while moving it around. I've not had a single issue mentioned above with Nockturnals. They will not shut off or turn on unless you want them too. As far as battery life goes, I've never had one die on me(they typically aren't on for very long anyway). Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  21. Yea that is a common problem with lighted nocks and a hard habit to break for some, I was guilty of doing it in the beginning also. I don't use them as much to see where my arrow hits the deer (if I can all the better) but to find my arrow after the shot, afternoon sits primarily. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  22. So if it said "chicken/duck corn" you wouldn't have thought he was baiting deer? I'm not attacking you personally but there is way too much assumption and unfounded accusations in social media today. Maybe he was going to bait deer, maybe he has a farm. Doesnt matter. It isn't illegal to buy corn during hunting season, Ag stores sell a lot of feed year round. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  23. I bought apples from beak and skiff. So what? Am I a poacher because I bought something a deer would eat? Too much assumption, everyone is so critical of everything someone else does without knowing any facts. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  24. I stand corrected. Doe feeding 50 yds behind me. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  25. My 5th sit of the year and the first time I've been skunked... Nice morning though. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
