FWIW, I do know with good confidence that the submissions for comments had a majority of comments against the antlerless seasons. I do not know what % or how lopsided it was, but do know that the majority of comments were against the implementation.

Maybe we should all buy our MZ tags and head S to the nearest public land that allows buck harvest and do a giant HuntingNY drive through it MZ weekend, lol.
-
The units that were impacted actually never ran out...they still had more to give well into the second chance drawing. So the "gobbling up" effect has no real impact.

EAB for everyone, not just bow, right?
-
Mods - you should consider merging threads on this a bit because there might be more of these threads, lol.

Not for nothing, but as an xbow hunter - you should not have wanted this change. All it is going to do is ignite bowhunters to push back even more on full inclusion - me being one of them. Taking two weeks and MZ and now having to cram in more hunters in the few weeks I shoot a buck with my bow? I was not all that against inclusion before, but this certainly sways me to the "I don't want it" camp.

There was a comment period and links were posted all over this site....

Crappy comment and crappy timing.

Actually many wont. End of year, cold weather, after the grind of regular season, and ala carte licenses. Rather than buying the super sportsman up front, im not buying my mz tag unles i feel the need to fill the freezer at that point and time. Chances are ill have shot a doe or four by then, so there isnt much incentive to go buy it. I dont mind saying that shooting a buck is what engages me in this sport. I sure as heck enjoy the camraderie and shooting some does, and enjoy the hunt. But taking away the ability to shoot a buck fully, really reduces my desire to get out of bed when it is a high of 15 degress and ten inches of snow to wade through. Not to mention, im going to have little desire to shoot a doe outside of those three weeks. I want to maximize what time there is now to kill a buck. My group of 3 shot 13 freaking doe last season in these impact units. Im not all that excited we will meet that target again once we compile enough meat for the freezer for us. To be honest, I could easily just get the statewide antlerless and pop a doe early and be done with doe hunting because Im not going to use more than one full deer anyway in my house and a buck will be able to be given out to those I normally donate to. Either way, either doe tags or the mz will not be bought by me this year. We will see how it goes.

No they want us to BUY doe/dmp tags to shoot them.
-
Itll be interesting to see if mz tag sales fall off.

If we had too many does, the gun season would (or should) have been utilized. This is bad decision making and bad biology.
-
What is so weird? It's the first two weeks of bow and the late bow/muzzleloader season. Pretty simple to understand. Taking two of the best weeks to shoot a buck out of consideration (first and last weeks).
-
Nope. Why would I in rifle zones or when I have an H&R Ultra Slug tackdriver? MZ is a mistfit. If I want a challenge in gun, I pick up the bow. It just has no fit in an area with a just over a week long late season to shoot does only. Makes my Vortek UL look like a bad buy. I feel bad for the whackos with high end TCs.

no real need to own a mz now...
-
mz season too!

Welcome to the doe only seasons...in 20-freaking-15! It's official.

If August heats up, it may be slightly dormant. I wouldn't worry about timing as much as just cutting it down to 6" or so.

It's also because hunting is a hobby often given more of a year-round approach by people nowadays. Sure, there are plenty of weekend warriors and opening day only hunters, but there's also alot more people that are doing hunting related activity Jan-Sept. Also I think camp style hunting is more of a gun hunting mentality. Bowhunting is definitely more elitist in that regard, and with bowhunting, it's not as much of a camp mentality. At least, for me.

And they say young people are entitled today...

Deer antlers are some of the fastest growing living tissue on earth today.

Throw and Mow is the approach you are looking for. You should have been killing off with the round-up now so you have a nice dead vegetation to work with. Then, go in and seed, and then mow (or weedeat) to cover the seed and create a thatch for moisture retention. This works well with smaller seeds like brassica and clover, but I am sure you can have a good degree of success with ryes and oats, etc. -
Maybe it's not the same % but rather the increase % moving to AR? Who knows.

Might as well think of buck management zones here in Roc as buck restriction zones - in one way or another - to force the doe harvests. One of the worst fawning seasons I've seen in every spot I've been to this year. Great. I run alot of cams. You know how many twins I have on cam? Two sets...and that's three counties represented there...

Top layers of dirt are indeed pretty dry right now. Hopefully it balances out.
