  1. I may have forgotten but don't you have some sort of Compliance-like role at a company? The irony of Legal and Compliance banter in this thread doesn't escape me, LOL. Most normal people probably could envision times when ethics trumps law and times when law trumps ethics - for either self preservation or self-conciousness. Some guy, I'm not saying who, had to put down two does in front of his house two falls ago in the span of two weeks. One time, he had to use a .22 as the doe was pinned under the driver's truck and was moving about alot with bones protruding. The next, a mom with a caravan full of kids, with the doe trying to get up when it was obvious it wasn't going to. In that instance, the guy had to use his bow while the mother had the kids look away. Smarter move than using the gun, most likely. Both driver's were gracious, at least I am told. Bottom line, sometimes the "right" thing for that person isn't legal, and sometimes, its not ethical. The personal compass of most people are similar. It's the outliers that end up causing most of the news stories.
  2. Nice buck. Tilt your cam up a bit at that set - you are losing ALOT of illumination to the foreground.
  3. A quick check online and it looks like runaways are somewhat common for the D333....I'd return it locally if possible. If not, warranty via Moultrie, but you'll lose a few weeks, which is when we all want to be using our cams anyway.
  4. The D333 while a Moultrie, isn't one of the more popular cams. And by popular, I mean tested en masse by the general public. Troubleshooting game cams is somewhat of a community effort in that users with new cams tinker and find out what works and then spreads the word about that "fix." The two major things I would look at are the sensitivity and the plotscan/plotwatcher/time lapse mode. I know you said you checked the latter, so what setting is the sensitivity at? If that is set to normal or low, and you are positive that the time lapse is off, then that leads into some detective work. So, look at your pics, did the cam start taking pics as soon as you left and pretty much up until you arrived? If yes, and the time lapse is off, I would consider that cam a "runaway" cam, meaning it is triggering nonstop. In that case I would return/warranty the cam. You could also look at the vegetation at the camera set - is there alot of blowing or moving branches, grass, corn, etc.? That could be a factor, too. But, 1,800 of the 1,833 being blanks, then that concerns me. If you don't want to return it, I would research a way to get the camera to default settings. I'm not familiar with the D333 but sometimes there is a default setting in the menu/user interface, or there may be a "reset" button you have to depress. If you can't find it easily, I'd research that online. I'd get the cam to reset/default, put in new batteries and a clean working card and then program the camera to your desired settings and test it in your yard overnight for a day or two. You might be able to figure the cause then. Please let me know if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to offer advice as I can.
  5. The California one was funny and scary at the same time. The guy lived in CA and was a retiree from working at Kodak his whole life here in Rochester. He'd have garnered much more interest in that buck if he knew that it was a western NY buck. Potter alerted me to it as he had him on his feed. Sheesh. Stupid deer.
  6. Alot of the "fakes" you may see may actually be originals that were copied elsewhere. For example, Bases, the buck Moog and me were after wound up in places I'd never dream of and it was only supplied to Covert and a very select few people. People lifted the photo off of Covert's Website/FB feed, people used it to say that they were hunting the buck in a different state. One guy even used it to show another hunter in a swap hunt to say that the buck was on his ground as a way to entice the other hunter to swap a hunt with him. Potter came across my pic on a collector's FB feed stating a reward for the sale of the rack to him...the guy was in California. Heck, the buck is even in Covert's commerical on TV.
  7. I did it for a few years, pretty neat tool for the DEC.
  8. 250 iant unheard of with cheaply made strings. Some main line bows have this issues. I remember the mainl line PSE having long shoot in periods. Id reset the peep now and if it rotates buy a quality made set like 60x and be done with it. Ive only ever had one bow with strings I kept from the factory. I replaced all others immediately.
  9. String stretch with a new set/bow is completely possible. I wouldn't set the peep until you've burned through about 100 shots or so.
  10. At this point they'd have to be overwintered correct? I've had horrible luck trying that.
  11. So-So deal. I hear slightly favorable reports on their new E3 line this year. First time in a long time I've heard positive spin on the company.
  12. With that buck showing up at that time those nights...bed is nearby.
  13. I'm just saying...you two should get married. It would make for great TV.
  14. Did you miss the giant thread about it a week or two ago? Search for it and it'll have feedback.
  15. I can't wait until you shoot a 2.5.
  16. I didn't get it LandTrac. That's odd, haven't had that before.
  17. Time really isn't in my vocabulary right now...I've accepted a new role at another company and start there days before bow opener. Not going to have much free time in the short-term with my schedule.
  18. Will attempt without breaking a rib, ha. I guess that means I reel in the small ones?
  19. Next time, consider bringing some roundup. Cut the paths you definitely need and spray the paths. Then, spray some lighter walking paths through the thick stuff. After the die-off the dead vegetation will start to lay down naturally as the wind batters it. Slower process, but much less work-intensive and you can still be precise.
  20. Yeah, don't get me started. Lifelines are worth it, I know. Problem is, for what they are made of, they are overpriced playing the hunter safety card. I don't have the time to make a few, but want to buy a couple for hang-on permanent sets this year. Anyone got some info on good prices?
  21. I do the same, but use a V shape with two lanes. No need for a third lane if you think about it. One to spot and one to shoot.
  22. It's practically hunting season, can we let this off-season type talk just fall by the wayside and talk hunting?
  23. With a crossbow, it doesn't matter if they fly like field points or not, you still need to sight in for the heads. It's not the same as with vertical bows where you can broadhead tune a bow to get it to hit the same POI with your BH and field point. I'm sure none of this kind of stuff is covered in the super in-depth training offered by NY to allow people to hunt with an XBOW. I expect to see alot of people having this issue. I have to assume things like this would be covered in the traditional classroom environment or online class for archery. Just another example of a massive screw-up by NY.
