passed a doe. one of these days ill shoot one.

He's hunting it in the a.m. I sat it this p.m. and had two bucks show up. Shooter commited but a swirl/thermal got the best of me at that moment. That one stung a bit. These pics are all from one soak. 13 days. Theres another dozen bucks give or take. Just can't bother to post more, lol. The pics are in order, so you can see the scrape grow.

first shooter of year by stand. too dark. watched him bump three does for ten min by moonlught. stood in lane for a solid min.

all federal lands were closed legally. what people did is another story.

This thread is pretty entertaining in and of itself. Geno appeared just like I thought he would. Witty, not so much. Funny how you get a "picture" of someone without meeting them. Only non-hunting one I have at work.

Have I shot a buck over one? No, but I don't generally scrape hunt more than a time or two. Where is the value - ticking off the dominant buck. I know the scrape dirt and licking branch is real/recent/timely...so that buck knows one is moving in on him. I have plenty of vids of bucks working those scrapes. Some think it may entice them out earlier or linger longer to bed.

Because its illegal. Simple. The value of breaking the law vs. the problem of fighting it in this situation is laughable.

Oh yes. federal lands were shut down and there was a fine associated with it. Not even allowed to hike, etc.

I'm sure the hunting will be great now that hunters can go in there. Illegal to hunt there while the govt shutdown was in effect.

Would have loved to see anything other than SW wind but it is what it is.

Word. Keep in mind, you can tell doe beds as they'll be lumped together in a small area and face different directions and have differing bed sizes. They use their numbers to help aid in detecting danger. Bucks are going to be more isolated, may have rubs leading to/from bed, and the tracks will tell a lot. Bucks may use other deer as "sentinels" but still be bedded slightly away from them. So, any danger would be alerted by the other deer detecting it first. See this in marshes more often in my experience.

You people need to hunt.

I don't typically make mock scrapes now. I have in the past. Interesting tactic to say the least. I'd go to a scrape at one parcel, take dirt from it and maybe even snip one of the licking branches (if more than one). Go to the other parcel, create one about 10-20yds away from the biggest one using the materials, ziptying the licking branch.

So, in off-hand conversation here at work. One co-worker has a daughter who goes to Rush-Henrietta Schools. She is enrolled in the after-school program. Kids there from time to time will do homework while at the program - housed at the school after school hours. The Department of family/Child Services came in and conducted a review, and witnessed a few kids doing homework. They promptly informed the school that it is illegal for the kids to do their homework while at/in the program. The only legal way would be if the school had the program licensed as a daycare, but since it is the school program, it is illegal. The school had to inform the parents of the kids that doing homework was now not allowed. Idiots.

I'm not a big time scrape hunter, but will have a handful of sits around the right ones (hopefully). Sitting one after a storm is a very good idea.
