Agreed...maple becomes a big favorite for a very short period of time, but they'll eat them all season long if they are around. The peak is the starch to sugar content at the point they fall off the tree.

IC and truballs are good and cheap.
-
Park? I must be missing something.
-
Agree with grind..that stuff is horrible sometimes. Seems like you can never get rid of it all. Grind away.
-
The longer it stands the more it'll attract the deer. Corn being cut around it will reduce areas where deer will go/move. What do you mean travel area? If you had deer bedding on it, what makes you think it is a travel area?
-
That's the problem. Every mast tree just became a food source by the end of this little storm.
-
You got that right - the next couple days after this wind storm is going to cause alot of "where are the deer?" posts. With the wind and all of the mast that's going to fall as a result...it'll take several days for them to be scooped up. This coming weekend might be slower than many people expect.
-
Deer will indeed move in wind. You just need to know where to look. Look for low lying open areas with food. Their nose and hearing are compromised in such conditions that they then rely on their vision more. Low areas blocking wind with short green fields (say a low corner of a field) or an open wooded area, allows them to use their eyes as best as possible. They'll move to the center of the low spot to make distance between them any anything blocking their vision and feed. They'll do so in good numbers too - it'll look like a mini-yarding group if you find the right pocket. I think it's an underrated time to find a bigger buck, too.

Pics! Congrats on getting him out there and involved. Fun to be a part of something like that, even if you didn't shoot the deer yourself.

The irony displayed in this thread is mind-boggling. You do realize you are on an internet forum dedicated to hunting? Hunting the old way is the only way, yet you are participating on a hunting forum online? And, you have nearly 1,000 posts on your account. Mind-boggling.

I love high tight racks. Nice!

I have more than 40 stands out and about. Trust me, you can never have too many.

He's toast. He better change his FB page, too. Not too many mid 20s males from Campbell Savona High School that attended the Chiro school. Heck, if I were him, I'd be out in the pouring rain cleaning up the bait. The officers are on their way.
-
This is like the year of the master baiters or something. They're everywhere this year it seems.
-
Not like we can read his old posts saying he's from Campbell-Savona and attended the Chiro school...just sayin'.
-
Even funnier how you copied it and reposted.
-
LOL. That's called a slippery slope.

I don't have alot of experience with bear-deer interactions. What I would say is try the other spot and see if you can get in for more seat time at the right time. You'll get burned out sitting those long hours before the rut hits or just get frustrated and make mental mistakes.
-
Definitely not the same salt block, that's for sure.
-
Nice guy indeed. I posted that he passed a few weeks ago but nobody responded.

That "dug out hole" is it the low spot to the field? Deer will often enter in field low spots because of thermals dropping the scent down to them and because it offers visual protection.
-
Light and variable is the worst to hunt. You scent cone just drops and floats about at the mercy of any thermals.
-
Every single person I've talked with have said field use has diminished in most places and deer are on the mast big time. I'd be looking at chunks of mast trees or mast trees near bedding areas.

Will rifle be legal in Livinston Co in 2014 or 15?

Historically, the trend would show it being passed next year or year after. Once the movement springs up, it tends to pass eventually.
