  1. Rumor is that Progressive is the company behind the push for Reed to drop ARs. Reed stated it was one sponsor - all of the other sponsors had pulled out, except Progressive, before the cancellation. It was also reflected on the ESOS site - Progressive was the lone sponsor remaining. There's your answer. Progressive has a history of such things.
  2. What about the small guys though? Don't forget them. They probably need it more than Cabelas, although the bigger companies took the stand because they held clout. The question is...NOW what? Someone needs to step up and hold a show - it ain't easy, but it can be done.
  3. Show canceled (or post-poned as they say). Canceled for all intensive purposes.
  4. I run a risk management program for a $2B+ a year company. I am looking into bringing on an intern for a few days a week in lieu of college credit. I can work with the respective college to help ensure credit is given. Internships are not paid; however, interns stand a very high chance of being hired upon graduation as long as they do well in the experience. Role is located in Penfield, NY (Rochester). Prefer a business background with writing skils, or a communications background.
  5. That's your problem...ha. I'm not a brand basher, but of all cam lines I have owned, that brand as a whole has performed the worst, by far.
  6. Happens to everyone from time to time. One thing I think we can all agree on, is that the little guy is going to be negatively affected, and that's an unfortunate and unavoidable byproduct of this whole ordeal. Nobody wants to see that happen, but there's a point where tough decisions are made and I think those small companies may in turn have limited damage because most people know that those are ones they need to send their business to. I was on the fence for going this year way before this ordeal, as I have a new kiddo. Obviuosly not going now regardless, but I was looking forward to a few vendors - Kinseys...they always seem to have a smoking deal on a particular game cam for a cheap price, the one vendor that sells the high-end reflective dog collars, as I get two of them each year...and I always look forward to buying some stuff I don't really need at the Sportsman Liquidators. The good news is SL is going to be at the show this weekend, and I need some new storage bags; their Team Whitetail bags are cheap but good. I'll be ordering the dog collars this spring over the internet from the vendor as I still have their catalog. Don't know about Kinsey running the cam sale online.
  7. I'm mixed on inclusion, honestly. In Ohio, where it is prevalent, and often cited as a reason why they should be allowed. This season, I killed a 2.5 yo buck, nothing special, at 30 or 35 yards (God I must be getting old because I don't remember). I took it to the locker, and they looked at me like I was some hunting whiz for killing a deer with a compound vertical bow - because crossbow use is so prevalent and viewed as easier there. Crossbow hunters outnumber compound and traditional hunters in Ohio now based on the last Ohio DNR numbers I saw. I see that as a major concern for me. I am all for expanding opportunity, but archery (vertical anyway) as an institution, is in jeopardy. Because arguably the poster child state for crossbows has more crossbow hunters than archery hunters, I have a taken a pause on whether inclusion is more of a good thing or bad thing (Pro/Con). To me, that proves that a crossbow does not lend itself to people picking up a compound or trad. bow.
  8. The overwhelmingly sinking feeling you get in regard to the financials will pale in comparison to the feeling you get once you see boys at college acting like they are at a feeding frenzy, ha. Oy.
  9. I feel a bit lucky, I only have 43k left in student loan debt between my undergrad/grad degrees. I also have a step-daughter who is a freshman at Alfred State. I also have a one-week old. Fun times. Gag. I won't feel lucky at all if illegals and their progeny are given the means to go to school. I hate to blow up a kid's fate or opportunities, but quite simply, it's not earned imo.
  10. If I were owner of the NY show, or say the Ohio shows (bowhunting show or D&T Expo), I'd be JUMPING on this. I mean JUMPING on this, what a great opportunity for them at this moment.
  11. What kind of cam is it? Sensitivity shouldn't be that bad as the sensor signaling should be pretty clear in cold weather. The cam was on in the house but not working? Swap and format card first?
  12. It's a new/revamped show that was not associated with the old one that took place at the fairgrounds. I've heard from many within the state and industry that this show will be good for what it is (a NY show). Lots of people are positive about it, including some of the "celebs" I've chatted with. Me and my better half recently had a baby, but she granted me leave to go on Saturday, so looking forward to it. Big bonus since Harrisburg is in the toilets.
  13. I highly doubt this show will take place. The rate of dropping out per day will eventually force the show to shutter or change position. I doubt a sale will take place before hand, but next year, it'll probably have attendance records set once it gets in the hands of a pro-hunting, pro gun owner.
  14. I agree that it can be a game changer in theory, but I can gurantee you that it won't be the difference maker between killing a mature buck and not killing a mature buck. It tells me when the chasing and daylight activity increases to make my decision. The only difference to me is stepping foot within the confines of the camera. Going by that rationale, the game camera is within the same confines - it confirms an animal is there or isn't in the area and the only thing the hunter did was plop the cam on a tree. Why not scout the old fashioned way? I believe Montana or Wyoming has made it illegal to use in-season. I support the premise of nomadic/ranging (elk, caribou, maybe moose/bear) animals shouldn't be subjected to that practice, but a whitetail is not an animal that fits into that style. That buck could be gone within minutes and never make it back there again. The elk, bear, moose, on a fly-in is seen and can be relied upon to be within a certain area that can be glassed, shot, or moved upon stalking. I share your concern, but ultimately, it's not going to be the difference maker for me.
  15. The answer to that is they don't do anything different, really. I don't think there is a state out there east of the Mississippi with such a vast area similar to that description in land size. In that part of NY, it really is the proving ground, and its a reason most people refer to it as "great challenge for a wily mature buck." Remember, all of the National Parks out west would fit within the AP. It's very unique in a sense. More and More, NY should be broken and managed into threes - Western/Central, Dacks, and Catskills on downstate (with distinctions for LI, etc.). Heck, I'd even go for two, including the Dacks and W/C NY if NYC and it's surrounding counties let us form West New York state, lol.
  16. True story. I've dated two professional cheerleaders. One was a "rhinos" girl, the second was a Tampa Bay Lightning Cheerleader, who later stalked me for quite some time and gave way to my fraternity brother name. Oh the memories. That's about the peak of my ladies chasing days. The one that tolerates me now is a God-send. Did I ever tell you about my best diet? Cost me $17k, but with the stroke of a pen, I lost 105lbs of the deadest weight I ever had. I call it...the Ex-Wife Diet.
  17. Rumor is that Reed is in talks to sale the show rights now.
  18. Saturday starts at 9. Hours are on their site.
  19. gorilla knuckle dragger....geez. The Elite is a good bow; certainly tough when models are limited due to that DL.
  20. I run a risk management program within a 2B+ revenue company. I miss working in a smaller company, but stability a good pay keeps me chained.
  21. While i feel bad about vendors, it is a rock and a hard place. Still, the show needs boycotting until change is made.
