  1. You ain't kiddin' Here's a Gander Mountain scope mount job...brand new scope on a H &R Ultra Slug I bought there.
  2. shed hunting, scouting for beds, and lots of stand work. And a baby...oy.
  3. There are more xbow hunters than vertical bow hunters in Ohio if I remember correctly the last time I saw stats on it. When I dropped my deer off to donate there, the meat locker mgr. took the deer in and asked me how far of a shot. I replied 30 yards, and he said" wow, that is a great crossbow shot, right in the heart." I had to explain to him that I hunt with a compound bow...and he goes, "oh a long bow, don't see many hunting with long bows. That's a phenomenal shot then for a long bow." I was thinking he was mistaken when he kept saying long bow...but everyone there seems to refer to compounds, recurves, and long bows, as simply long bows. Crazy. Get ready, I think it is coming.
  4. And we still end up at the same place he started?
  5. Wayne Co. had a judge a few years back that was denying permits. Went to the higher courts at some point. Probably why the county is still slow in turnaround.
  6. Call the Doc, we need an expert's opinion on the matter.
  7. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. How else do you think she won the contest? A gelding amongst stallions.
  8. Exactly, we all want this kid to be successful. Bottom line. The forum is surely behind that.
  9. Contest Results: 1. Growalot - Late closer, left the pack via trickery by confusing, muddled, incoherent babbling in threads. Then sealed the deal requiring the yard stick rather than the classroom ruler. That cat is on the pedestal. 2. Doc - He places a formal objection on record, however. His position is that the pharmacy was closed and results may vary otherwise. 3. Belo - He misread the contest gudelines and shot a button buck by mistake. 4. Fast Eddie - Poor guy couldn't read the directions and competed backwards. 5. Robinson - His feelings were hurt and he spent the contest crying in shame in the stall. Eventual results were disappointing due to turtling effect of the public lashing. 6. Scot - Felt so bad and wanting to help Robinson, he abstained from beginning at zero. Started out of the gate at -5 just to ensure the "Everyone gets a trophy" mentality continues so Robinson can falsely get a sense that "Everything is just fine." DNF: Phade - Didn't want to get his ego hurt. Color commentary brought to you by Culver Creek - Everyone has one of "those" guys in the group, don't they? Refused to compete: Shawnhu - Who knew he also distrusted officials on top of police?
  10. Sorry Doc, I think you are going soft. Pull up the big boy britches and Depends and deal with it. You might want to then get back on the rocker you fell off of. Is that what you want to hear? Does it make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside Clark Griswold? Like rainbows and unicorns? There, is that better? Seriously Doc, relax. No harm was done by telling him in public he needs to get a better grasp on the English language. He appears to be a productive member and with a good head on his shoulders. Three people suggesting to him to improve is not something that requires a PM. It was relevant to the discussion at hand (debating a teacher for Pete's sake). You insinuate we are grammar police when that is clearly not the case. I did the kid a favor, as did Belo and Scott. Nobody wants him to fail - and I bet that speaks for both of them, too. Public shame would be calling him an idiot, moron, or some other negative connotation, and nobody has done that or likely will do that, because that's not the case. There's no ego here; you are telling yourself a story.
  11. You want a nipple with the bottle? PM him? No, just look at what it did. It brought at least three people to the table who felt the kid could do himself some good by spending a little time in the books. Oh my, hit the panic button, this forum space will be taken up by grammar correction. Sheesh doc, the sky is falling. Where's the tin foil hat? You remind me of that family member at Christmas, where one thing goes wrong that is not a big deal and that person goes off on a rampage throwing hands up in the air, getting miffed at no big deal, and completely taking the fun and air out of the room. Go ahead, try to say that what we noted is not useful - you'll only make a fool of yourself some more. Tell the kid grammar is unimportant in life, especially when talking, writing, and interacting with those who hold power positions over you, such as a teacher, potential employer, or current boss. Again, context seems to float over your head without much trouble. The kid was literally saying a teacher looked stupid while at the same time using improper spelling and grammar. You just don't seem to get it, Doc. Maybe that's as much of a Doc post as I can muster...
  12. From your maps and a big picture thinking, it looks like most your likely year-round bedding or primary bedding areas are just off your property lines. The ag (corn) will be a factor in that bedding, but it really looks like you got one north and one south off the lines. I would need a bird's eye view in Bing to confirm, but pretty sure that is the case.
  13. I seem to be against the grain here. I find aerials or aerials with topo overlays extremely easy to pick stands from - ones that I have killed mature bucks out of or especially when going out of state, identifying the spot and then hunting and killing deer from that spot. Predominant wind can be determined by checking online. Topos will also give away currents. It's really not that hard. Sure, it doesn't provide a complete picture, but I can bet more times than not that I'll ballpark you into the deer. Virtual scouting has become one of my best tools to success. Ask Moog how my virtual mapping turns out. He's starting to become very good at it, too, and it is his first hunting season.
  14. Moog has one and loves it. I think it is a tack driver...that gun and the H&R 20g bull barrel are the two best stock shooting slug guns out there imo. The only complaint I can see about that gun is that they (rightfully, however) put all of the cost into the barrel and working internals. The stock is pretty standard fare, and I probably rate the stock as being less than average quality, despite being extremely functional. In the end, I'd rather have an ugly gun that works like a champ. Good buy for sure.
  15. Nope. He asked for an opinion on the subject and I gave it. I was not the only one. PMing him would have been useless because nobody else would have seen it. I took the initiative and others also stepped up, possibly after seeing my note on it. Now he knows that at least three people have commented on the fact he needs better command of the English language. It may just be what it takes to get the ball rolling to fix an area of weakness. Instead of downplaying a weakness as a "typo" or other slight of finger malfunction, step up to the plate and be a change agent for the kid to better himself in the long run. Sure, it may seem like a trivial thing; however, big picture thinking shows that college grads or trade workers fresh out of training need every advantage they can get. It is a dog-eat-dog world right now, and I'd hate to see him screw up an interview because he "leaded" a project in school or apprenticeship rather than "led." Or, just sweep it under the rug.
  16. This one is flying over your head because you are not looking at context. A typo is a single mistake. This kid demonstrates a weakness in grammar and spelling across all of his posts. He's also talking about debating a teacher and looking at him "like he was stupid." You are also making a leap with the glass house remark. Basic grammar and spelling goes a long way in life. Again, this is not a thread about how his day in the woods turned out. It is a serious thread about a debate topic that is also a national issue. He would benefit greatly from mastering the use of the English language. I know I do not want my kid writing like that - do you?
  17. Then don't be bringing a knife into a gun fight like the poor kid did, ha.
  18. Being able to articulate yourself in a debate is paramount; therefore, grammar and spelling is relevant in this discussion. This is not a post about how one's day went in the woods. He's talking about how stupid a teacher looks while giving himself the appearance of a dunce. I'm not holding anything against the kid, but I know I'm not hiring him for any open position in my company - and there are 13,000 employees in it.
  19. Plenty of fly fishing to be had...cars line the creeks and streams here. Also some of the best deer hunting in the state in Region 8. I'm also from Rochester. I urge you to pick up a bow as well. It's a blast!
  20. Nice sequence! Congrats. What are they eating in that field?
  21. Say what? Text me when you are free this week and I can come pick it up. Thursday evening would be best for me though. Sorry for the thread jack WA...congrats again on a nice buck and mount.
