  1. Someone on here got his first deer this afternoon....wonder if he'll fess up to it. A nice doe from the blind, too.
  2. ha...been a long time here...about 10 years or so for me when I was early 20s.
  3. Congrats...out of the web? Didn't even get to use it this season. Planning on a few sits for a doe later this month in prep for use in Ohio for a week. How's the experience with it so far?
  4. Niagara Falls...during bow season? What?!?!?!?!?! See it once...pretty neat. See it twice...OK.....third time..."why is everything so expensive?"
  5. I was not in a position to take the meat. My freezer is full and I don't have the time to process it due to work obligations. At that point, I was just doing what needed to be done. I do believe he was going to take it...he is a gun hunter from what he said. I didn't stick around for when the local cop showed up to write the report. The deer was dragged about 100 feet or so under the truck before he was able to stop fully and pull over. He was soing 55 or so...on the cell phone, too. I actually saw him on the phone as he passed by right before impact because i was look at the deer.
  6. Have deer run through yard to corn field across street. Saw them pass through, string of 7+ does. Walked past fron window and noticed them on the other side of road...sure enough...truck...splat. RUn outside, guy rolls down window and asked if I had a gun. See doe in middle of road, head up, quiet, but hurting. Pretty obvious what had to be done. Grabbed the .22 ran back and put her out of her misery. She couldn't get up...back legs were done. Guy wanted to report it for insurance since there was some good damage to his new Silverado. Told the guy not to let them know I shot her...didn't want to get ticketed (ethics vs. law be damned here...she had to be put down). He said no problem, she was hurting, it had to be done. Guy gives the operater his name...and it turns out he just bought a family member's house. Then I realize...he's an offduty trooper and his wife is a sherrif (he never mentioned, but I know this from my uncle telling me). Awwwkward. Nice guy though.
  7. I don't think elmo had it tight enough. He had it taught with pressure in the middle or end, but not when his feet moved into the tree, which creates a tiny amount of slack in the straps and pushes out the base from the tree. It very well could have been one or two clinches tigher and it wouldn't have given out. I'm not casting stones, but Elmo may have simply thought he ahd it taught enough. I know I've done it before myself and it's scary at times. Elmo, Saddles are not made any longer and are hard to find used. You may luck into one but they carry a premium since they are no longer available. Guido's Web is nice, they are about $340 new. I like mine. Offer still stands..I have practically anything you'd need...sticks, steps, hangons, ladders, climbers...My hunting room looks like an end of times bunker for deer hunting.
  8. bad luck....that belt was not tight enoguh for your weight so close to the tree rather than leverage on the front of the stand. i agree that it may have bent during the fall. i have three climbers...wonder what the cost would be to ship you one to borrow for the season.
  9. hard to get through sometimes when excited. im like that after a buck kill. i make no sense for a few phone calls.
  10. Grow, you are entertaining. Notice i wasnt the only one who had no idea what you were talking about.
  11. You left out a few bits of info in your original post. Complete thoughts, next time. Might reduce your post count by a few hundred, though.
  12. Drugs are bad...mmmmkkkay? Ha, serious, next time fill us in a little better about the goings on in the land of Oz.
  13. Tough choice, can only make that decision when it presents itself. I killed a decent buck, if I had known what deer specifically it was that he was staring at....I wouldn't have shot. Sometimes, it's just a heat of the moment decision.
  14. Wow, glad to hear you are relatively unscathed. Did you have to change your drawers?
  15. This afternoon should be better for you all. The front moving though for the weekend should have them up early.
  16. Guess so...not much on top. Nice shots!
  17. I love people who think along the lines of genetics and free ranging deer. Sheesh.
