  1. Out of this whole thread, what I am most interested in Geno, is how she created a hand written email? Seems scammish to me. But, who knows...
  2. I wonder if this is legal...real-time updates on deer activity? It's akin to using a radio during a drive here, no?
  3. Ever do any hunting there in VA Beach? I lived there most of my teen years and young adult years... I once stepped on a cottonmouth on the island in Back Bay on the draw hunt...memory I will never forget. Hunted Dam Neck a few times with my Dad and those were some TINY deer, ha. Hunting is way different there, for sure. Also spent enough time fishing...my most memorable catch was a citation wahoo. Walked onto the deck and people at the restaurant were offering me $10 or $15 a pound for that thing.
  4. True story: Last weekend of SZ regular season 2 yrs ago...old lady said, we're going to NYC for the day...left at midnight in Rochester. Arrived in NYC at 6-7...stayed ALL day...left at 10:30...bus ride home. Arrived 5ish. Drove home, showered, grabbed my gun and out the door 30 minutes drive to friend's house. In stand and took a yearling doe right at legal time. Friend shot two does about 30 minutes later. I never slept, save for a few minutes on the bus when my head wasn't bouncing off the window. Long friggin day.
  5. Not the greatest pic for judging, but 120...maybe 125...can't really see his 5 side well.
  6. I would first make 110% I am legal, meaning 500 ft. from his closest "dwelling". I know you said it's far away...but 500 feet is pretty far. A 500' radius covers 18 acres.
  7. Ok, I thought so, but my FIL asked me this in passing and I didn't want to give him an unsure answer. He was concerned because he believed seperating the two pieces, to him, would make him uncomfortable in thinking it is still zeroed.
  8. A black squirrel and a blonde color phase raccoon are on my dream list. Why? No idea...but I'd certainly rank them high into my top 10 list of all game/species/type.
  9. Such as the H&R slug guns... If you break them down to clean, the scope loses zero, no?

    Blood Trails

I make a ton of mistakes, no doubt. Hunting near brush hasn't been one of them. I can always learn something new, however.
  11. Wayne County from another post, eh? I hunt out that way from time to time. Welcome!
  12. Great hunt...memorable hunts are always better when shared with family/buddies. Looks like a great day for you!
  13. Ask a friend for one from theirs...and then you can do the same. I've got a few friends we used to do this with, until we found the public land scrape spot that pops up every year.
  14. The plywood takes up no space, either...mine stays in the truck from October to December. I have one friend who bolted a manual winch at one end to crank the deer up it.
  15. Take the broadhead and jam it in under the skin wound. Or...slide a shell, casing, etc. inside the gumline. You can mark your deer that way if you have a problem.
  16. If apples are on the tree...those deer know that. Wouldn't make a lick of difference if one fell naturally or 20 fell by you shaking it.
  17. No. Here is what I prefer doing...everyone has their preference. I like to go to a park where hunting is not allowed, but is big enough for deer to roam. You can almost always find a ton of scrapes. I go there with a couple gallon zip lock baggies, latex gloves, a pair of snips and a spade that are not handled bare handed. I like to find scrapes in close proximity at the park rather than just one...because you can kill it by removing the overhead branch. So, while wearing the gloves, snip two-three branches that they are using and place them in one baggie. Next, take a spade full of bare scrape dirt and it goes into the other. At your hunting spot, set up a mock near another interior scrape...about 10 yards, or if I know for a fact I have the general bedding area and the feeding area down...I'll set up two or three scrapes along the trail. Two or thre scrapes along that trail can slow down the buck in the a.m. and make him hit his bed later as he stops at each scrape. A single scrape can make him stop for the shot, too. I don't do this every year because I go back and forth over mock scrape effectiveness. If I have more than one target buck on different parcels, I am more apt to try it.
  18. I will never tag the deer until it gets to the means of transportation..ie truck. I have lost tags ZIP TIED to the deer on multiple occassions. It is not required you attach the tag while dragging. Dragging solo sucks. If you have a truck, there are a few methods you can use to get it up there. The best in my opinion, is to get a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 plywood sheet and cut it down so it'll fit in the bed of your pick up flat (varies based on bed size and style). With the deer at your truck, open bed and pull sheet out like a ramp. Pull deer to edge of plywood and tie off with your rope to the truck rail. Pull it up the ramp a bit. Once you get the head up to the top of the plywood/bed, retighten it down. The jump down, go to the bottom of the plywood and you can lift and then slide the plywood in easy, with the deer on top of it. This works great for larger bucks because you are using leverage. Other option is to tie the buck up to the tree, use the truck to lift him up and tie the rope to the tree...back truck under buck, and lower. Or, back truck to the bottom of a ditch/hillside and slide the deer down into the bed.
  19. Some states have rules about bows being locked in transit. A few consider placing your release around the cables as being unfirable.
  20. 60% of the time it works everytime.
