I agree with this as well if you think it was not all the way forward and definitely quartering slightly to, the chest cavity can tend to collect the blood on that wound.
-
I agree if you think it was all the way forward and did not penetrate the brisket.
-
It happens...no blood or almost no blood?
-
I think you are good if it was not quarter away too hard...unless it just passed through on leg
-
Quartering at all?

I had to use my buck tag but I'm alright with it he was probably a deer another guy on the property wounded as a spike last season, he has a scar on his right front leg. Went to a tried-and-true early stand on public property this morning was hearing a ton of snorting all up and down the ridge before light. This is a very thick area with only a few lanes and a lot of immature beach still fully greened out at deer head height. Around 7:10 I caught a ear flick than a tail flick about 25 yards out front of me in dense thicket. Assumed it was a decent buck as it was alone and good bodied. But as it approached within 10 yards I could not spot antlers and the head, eyes and ears seemed big. I drew twice on the deer and both times held forever as he hesitated to go through my lane. At this point it was only brown rectangle passing close to my lane I could no longer see the head and thought mature lone doe and released. 520 grains 200 upfront went through the shoulder and out the lower ribcage. He bounded 10 yards, looked around and fell over. Was initially disappointed with antler but quickly turned the attitude around when I noticed the body size. 1/1 w/the new APA Mamba Air TF and 6mm FMJ Strickland Helix combo. 1st 10/1 deer.

Thanks. Bittersweet is better than Bitter. I arrowed this deer at 10 yards but I did not see that antler, it was thick with green leafed beach and I was drawn for an eternity so when the brown rectangle entered the lane I fired. Trying to fill all my dmps dmap and doe archery tag in bow seadon and then I'll just hunt bow through the regular/late season. Prolly head to PA for some buck hunting too.

If you bumped him give him 6-8 more hours...the deer in my avatar was single lung and liver and I bumped him 6 hours later. needed dog search the next morning to help me recover it next to a garage...good news dogs will almost always find liver hits. consider calling dog search rather than messing up the limited trail...and the dog handler can finish the animal with a gun.

Someone must have told all the bucks there was a ninja nearby.

Great week...harvest is the capper! I think this illustrates why people who are willing to fill doe tags should do it early and often and not worry about deer size especially when the doe is alone with no other deer for reference... Unless I missed the point entirely and he intentionally had you track and drag his deer as any good brother would.

You are the man...50 is way over legal ethical draw weight and you sir rock. Also just checked out your arm on the internet...sweet.

Ready, going to a ladder packing light!

Brutal but at the tree w/out harness or in the tree and no release are my 2 worst.

If you don't have little kids I can't recommend them enough for rendering you fully exhausted by 8 pm under any conditions...

This. I wouldn't hammer up that thicket without a gun on your shoulder and a lethal ability to jump shoot deer.

Sweeeeet broadheads...I added the fixed 2 blade and heavy arrows to my tech this season, maybe next year I'll complete the set and actually use my traditional bow...teehee. Everything Is as settled as it's gonna be by tomorrow first light. I'm kicking around the idea of heading out right now 55 mins north to a public spot I've hunted maybe 5 times, but I've got Monday to hunt so I'm trying not to burn out (2 young kids at home). Decisions...

Looking forward to a long morning sit Sunday at my lease in Newfield and then Monday somewhere near home another am sit. 60 is a bit warm for me, I'll do it but I don't have to like it.

Huh!?! As an avid cold weather hunter and skier I would love it but not here in the center of the state.

If you are referring to my comments I didn't mean anytime soon...the old guy was in his 80's...I gotta half a lifetime left. I think i would still rather be that buck than some of the road pizza I saw on the way home.
-
He was staring off into the west just on the edge of an 80 ft cliff...spent his whole life round there I would reckon. I don't think I'd mind going back to ground like that...if I'm lucky maybe I'll have a heart attack and drown out front in the lake like the previous owner of my home.

Hanging stands you can see this fella died here his skull can be seen from my new stand: Tons of sign got snorted at after finishing my trimming.
