  1. I won one in 30-06 and it is a tack driver. My 13 year old son claimed it!!
  2. When will the 2017-2018 New York hunting licenses be available to purchase? Thanks Blackpowder28
  3. LOL...Me too. I appreciate the update. Blackpowder28
  4. Can anyone tell me the amount of snow in the woods around Danby? Looking to come up and hunt the last weekend but don't want to hunt if the snow is deep in the woods. Thanks in advance Blackpowder28
  5. Bought an Ameristep that my son and I fit in fine. It was $59 at Dick's. Blackpowder28
  6. The Federal Fusion 150 grain shoot sub moa in my Browning. Blackpowder28
  7. I have a few T/C Encores/Prohunters and everyone shoots sub MOA. I have a .257 Roberts, 209x50 barrel, 17 Remington, and .338 Federal. I hated the idea of changing barrels so I bought frames for each barrel. All of my T/C's were bought before S&W bought and gutted the T/C line. Cannot vouch for the quality and accuracy now BUT I would not part with any of my T/C's, well possibly the 17 Remington?? Blackpowder28
  8. I clean all of my blackpowder rifles with rubbing alcohol. Blackpowder28
  9. I am on my second Liberty safe......I grew out of my 24 gun safe the day it was delivered. I now have a 28 gun safe and bought a cheap Stack-on that I keep my muzzleloaders and shotguns in. I also purchased a locking metal cabinet at Sam's Club that I put all my ammo and powder in, this frees room up in your safe. I agree with Turkeyfeathers....Buy bigger than you need. Blackpowder28
  10. Wool is King of the Cold......I only wear my Woolrich when it is sub zero otherwise I use Cabela's Wooltimate jacket. Blackpowder28
  11. Savage 220 20 gauge with a leupold 2-7x Shotgun/Muzzleloader scope. Blackpowder28
  12. I live in the Poconos and just started hunting 7R last year. I have been looking for a piece of property that borders State Forest between 5 and 20 acres. Would probably just buy a camper and put it on a concrete pad to avoid the taxes of a permanent structure. There seems to be great deals in the Andirondacks but want to keep my commute under 2 hours or I won't use it as much. Blackpowder28
  13. I tried Hornady SST's, Federal Fusions, and Accutips. My gun loves the 2 3/4 Accutips...the 3 inchers didn't group. The Savage owners Manuel recommended the Accutips also. The Accutips are sometimes hard to find so I buy them when I see them. Currently I have 20 boxes and have paid between $12.25 to $15.99 a box. Call me crazy BUT I have been burned by Remington with other ammo where they stopped production on certain ammo.
  14. I use them in my LHR Redemption and love them. They are a joy to load and shoot. I tried the heavier lead ones and was not impressed but am very pleased with the copper ones. They are hard to find. I have had to buy them all online. Blackpowder28
  15. Hunted New York (7R) for the first time last year and decided to buy a slug gun. I bought the Savage 220 20 gauge after much research. I put a 2-7x Leupold shotgun scope on it. Most forums recommended the Remington Accutips. I took it to the range late Spring and shot a few different slugs at 50 yards and was very impressed with the gun and Accutips. My 3 shot groups had 2 holes. When it starts to cool off I will spend more time and shoot at 100 yards also. The combo seems like a winner. Anyone else shoot the 220 and/or Accutips?? Any input is appreciated. Blackpowder28
  16. I had a .350 Rem Mag built off a Reminton 700 short action rifle a number of years ago. I do not think there is a better woods gun for deer and bear. That being said...Brass is hard to find and factory ammo even harder. I do find it at gun shows from time to time. I have not used it in a few years.....The recoil is unreal. It knocks my fillings loose and gives me a sore jaw. LOL. I still love the caliber but have replaced it for bear with my .338 Federal and use my .257 Roberts for deer. I have become a recoil wimp in my late 40's. Just my .2 cents Blackpowder28
  17. The Kimber 84 Hunter is a pound or so heavier and more than a few hundred lighter at the register. They come in more calibers and have the sub moa guarantee. Never owned the Kimber but the Hunter has peeked my interest. Good luck Blackpowder28
  18. Fusions are very accurate BUT they are not Noslers. I am shooting Fusions in a 30-06 my son will be using in PA. I wouldn't be afraid to switch to the Fusions....Federal doesn't make trash. Good luck Blackpowder28
