  1. Sunday morning following opening day on state forest land 9J. Harvsted this one while in the company of a doe walking through the old pines.
  2. Been hunting mornings and evenings past few days and nothingbut does alone,,, in 9F . Today first morning light saw does getting chased in field by smaller buck, saw a lone buck seeking at 830am. Looks like the chase is finally on.
  3. As of the past weekend no bucks and minimal sign of in 9J . Past few days in 9F, does with no bucks either but more sign,
  4. I'm cheap ! This is how I do it year after year except I fill the sink for more pressure works good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lh6lGj20Jw
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oamgwgrQeA
  6. 9J - Starting to see scrapes, but very few, and only one small rub so far. No bucks yet either. Surely it will pick up soon, can't get any worse !!
  7. The reg says to report within 7 days
  8. Since you are getting a little technical ! The definition of Research does not have to scientific. That's why I wrote it is HIS research. His history of whitetail deer study is lengthy, so I tend to pay attention what he says. Another to follow for ME to learn from is Dr James Kroll if you want scientific here is his research ! Degrees/Certifications: B.S. Zoology, Baylor University (Distinguished Alumnus) M.S. Zoology, Baylor University Ph.D. Wildlife Science, Texas A&M University (Distinguished Graduate) http://www.deertv.tv/deerchannel/articles/DrDeersoffice.pdf
  9. Yes to that BuckHunter, however, so has everyone elses theories, he even admits that. .They all seem to agree on the photo light sense but to predict when things start who knows, The important part is to understand the diff phases of the rut cycle. Generally when people ask, so when is the rut ? for hunting terms, they usually mean when is the seeking phase giving hunters the best chance. Again, no one can pinpoint that since it's based on other deer senses. The way I look at it,, you do the scouting ,looking for diff signs then be in the stand the first two weeks of November, from sun up to sun down !! Catch the seeking phase for bow hunts, the chase is tougher to get them to stay still and close, and after that just gets slower.
  10. My opinion, this man is the pro on Whitetail behavior, This is His research http://charliealsheimer.com/ca/articles/art_rut.html
  11. Crossbows may be used to take deer or bear during limited portions of bowhunting seasons as follows, provided that the hunter possesses the muzzleloading privilege: During the last 14 days of the early bowhunting season in the Southern Zone (i.e., November 1–14, 2014 Regular firearms seasons using a Regular Big Game tag, DMPs, or DMAP tags late muzzleloader season in the Southern Zone using Bow/Muzz tags, DMPs, DMAP tags, or an unfilled Regular Big Game tag (late season only); If I use my crossbow during the early season bow hunt (those last 2 weeks), I would then use my rifle tag? NO, you would use your antlerless muzzleloader tag, you cannot take an antler deer since you already took one in early bow . ( you filled your either sex bow/muz privilage) However you can again take antlers in reg gun season with the xbow using you reg. season license. Also, if you do not take an antler deer during the Reg gun season, you can take an antler deer in the late bow/muz with the reg season license. So,,,since you took an antler during early bow, you cannot take another antler, until either reg gun season, or late bow/muz season WITH a Reg season unfilled tag, if you dont get one during reg season. Any way you look at it max of 2 antler.
  12. It gets tricky with the bow. Last year I double lunged a Buck at 20 yds and not one drop of blood. looked for two hrs and finally found it 25 yds away ! Main reason I dont hunt in rain or too much after civil twilight, If you dont take the high percentage placement shot, the deer will be back ! The second time around is much sweeter
  13. Always used the NAP Thunderheads myself 100g. Took many deer with them. Switched to Muzzy 100g this year due to price, couldnt beat the Walmart online price for 6 pack ( incl a practice head too ). I find that the Muzzy are slightly better groups , now just need to see the blood trail !
  14. All the money collected from us to hunt and they cant get the paper right in 2014, unreal.
  15. Some state land spots, scroll down, one says bow hunting only too http://columbiacountytourism.org/outdoor/hunting-and-trapping
  16. I also learned the hard way to always have my bow/gun with me even if my main reason in the woods are not to hunt,, logging, camera check , stand set,,,etc,,,,, crazy things happen !!
  17. whewww, now you're reaching ,, that's funny . Scent control , movement control and luck is what it usually boils down to
  18. All crossbow specifications remain in effect. < That statement means the specifications of the crossbow, pg 8 of the Law&Reg Guide, basically defines what a legal crossbow is As for interpretation , if there is a dispute, ,That's what the judge is for !! A ticket does not mean your guilty. I doubt that the ECO will bother you without evidence, ie, dragging a deer, etc. ,,, any violation witten I have ever heard of was a slam dunk for them. The hunting regulation guide has just about all that is needed to know about the laws & regs
  19. Hunted my cousins for years in E.C. Town of Boston. We've harvested a few of those big racks up there.
  20. Nice job, What a brute, where in Erie County ?
  21. Was on my way to my treestand for a last light bow hunt this evening ,and as I looked ahead to my stand, I see three bears walking under it. Kinda freaked me out. They never saw me, but probably smelled the shit in my pants ! I did not expect that.

    Cover Scents

http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/2012/08/get-rid-any-odor-baking-soda Dr James Kroll a whitetail researcher 35+ yrs says this of cover scent “All the scent-killer products help, but the best I’ve ever used is skunk scent. Skunk scent works by totally overpowering every other smell. The main thing is to stay downwind of the deer.” I will think twice about passing up that road kill skunk !!
  23. Mature drop tine 9pt, From State Forest Land Chautauqua County. 11/6/12 ..8am.. Caught him checking his scrape I've been watching. I was ground hunting an old pine forest edge and got him at 18yds. I like hunting those old pines, with all the dead trees, limbs etc, nothing can sneak thru without snapping twigs. Gives me time to spot 'em and have the advantage.
