I skipped this morning and it seems it was a slow one in the woods. I got a fence finished and am ready to go now! I am eager to get a deer on the ground.

Sounds like she didnt spook too bad..She probably knew something was up but never really figured you out. I think you can go back anytime. That being said,i like to switch locations a lot,but you are limited on 20 acres. Still,switch it up some. If shooting at an alert deer I would aim for the heart,i.e low to mitigate the dropping risk.

Rain in 4F..I will wait until tomorrow. I will be hunting all weekend,doing a full day sit in the spot i scouted this spring that had the most rubs and scrapes i have ever seen in a 100.yd stretch.. I hope it is not too early to go in there,I will find out what it looks like now.

I have a white dog,so she is my tick canary in the coalmine. The ticks were crazy abundant last winter and spring,then almost disappeared over the summer,which was a big surprise to me. I expected it to be a terrible year. But they sure are making a comeback now in my area. I would expect that you will see more and more on deer as the season progresses.

It think the very first does of the year will go into heat around then too. And since it is only one here or there the horny guys have to look hard,everyone wants to be first. Once a bunch of does come in bigger bucks dont have to look,they just go from one to the next. This is for areas with high doe to buck areas. I will hunt the edges of the rut harder than main part. A buddy had a buck parade a few years back on Oct 23 i think. One hot doe came by and 4 big bucks filtered through within an hour or so. Generally that would be a good season here to see 4 good bucks.

You make a lot of good points there. I can say that the state land around here has been empty so far. I wouldn't be surprised if the hunting accidents go up just based on the number of license sales alone. Doesn't matter much if the course was online or in person,if the hunter numbers double and most of the new sales are to newbies then more accidents will not be a surprise. I will stay of public during gun season either way.

The rope i bought is predator rope from Sampson and intended for tree work. So i am not too worried about using it for that a few times. I check it regulary and it still looks brand new. I used them to help pull the tree in the right direction,so i had it looped over a branch. The other use was pulling the cedar tree sideways when i cut the bottom so it wouldnt smash a window on the house.

I just started hunting public this year and will only do so during bow season,maybe late season too. I walked some public on a trail last year during gun and two bozos are walking down the road ahead of us. They didnt hesr us until we passed them and not a speck of orange on either of them,full camo. Some folks are just not that bright,and i dont mean the orange...
