  1. I woke up to 3" of snow. I may have to try to get work done early and look for tracks!
  2. Sorry to hear that, that is a tough one. I hope you find some solace and maybe a deer in the woods.
  3. Here we have another man intimidated by a smart woman of color.
  4. That would be great if Barr did that. Then you could have something to keep your hope up for the next three years.
  5. I am not nervous about any challenge to the election integrity. It's all based on bogus claims and will go nowhere. The only people believing it are the ones that believe everything Trump says. You stay tuned and you will find out.
  6. The trick is to not overdo it during regular season. I got lucky and got a buck opening day and only went out twice since then, still hunting. I am fired up for late season now,and the deer will be a lot less spooky.
  7. Dude, trump is the only ne attempting a coup, but he sucks at it,just like he sucked at colluding with russia. z
  8. you guys have it all straightened out. And i agree that late season is a great chance to fill tags with the muzzleloader. Deer will be almost back to normal behaviour, the pressure drops considerably from opening day.
  9. Good luck to all those last chance folks out there today. My advice is buy a muzzleloader, the late season is fun.
  10. I agree that practice makes you better, naturally. I just dont enjoy shooting a gun much. I am ok to be proficient with it but not a sniper. If a deer runs full speed it will get a pass from me,i dont need venison that bad. But to each their own,if you practice for it go for it. Everybody needs to make the decision to shoot or to pass for themselves since they are the only ones there with all the information.
  11. Hey,time for me to chime in. The supreme court just rejected the texas lawsuit, the big one as trump claimed. Looks like it's over and the only one attempting a coup is Trump.
  12. I had not shot a gun since sighting in my muzzleloader last year. I dont think you need to shoot hundreds of bullets to be proficient. It may make you better for a few percentage points, but i generally dont take really risky shots. I have not shot at a running deer yet. I have to pick my shot since i hunt with the muzzleloader only. I also have not shot a deer past 90 yds yet. I did shoot a doe in the head a few years back at 80 yards since she was bedded just over a ridge and i could not get closer. I laid right down for that shot and admit i got a little lucky. I would not take that shot again now. I shot my buck right behind the shoulder this year at about 60 yds.
  13. whatever you end up using, the safest way to use either is to be hooked to the tree from your first step up. That would be a Linemans belt for sticks and a safety harness for the climber.
  14. Moving around definetely helps,if not the deer sightings at least you will look at some new scenery. I have not hunted the same tree twice this year, that was my goal going in. And some years are just off and you may be unlucky. I have only seen 7 bucks since opening of bow season, and i am counting the spikers. Two are dead now though,so that is a good season for me. I think still hunting can be very effective, you just need a little luck with that as well. Even if you bump some deer,it is good intel for the future. I think deer pattern us much faster than we think. Even if we dont get busted while in the stand, they will smell our trail in and out if they cross it. Now if they regularly smell that i think they stay away during the day.
  15. Maybe it is with your fishing gear? A case of mistaken identitiy for a wading stick....
  16. What about bringing a shooting stick up with you? I never used one but i think the height adjusts.
  17. I thought this thread was gonna be about menopause...I am a little disappointed.
  18. most of the points sound good. It would make sense to let the agency with the most knowledge regulate the deer population control means.
  19. I am not familiar with the area as far as hunting goes. Just get out there and scout with gun or bow in hand.
  20. I listened to a podcast with Greg Litzinger,he learned a lot about rubs. He said he saw one while scouting that he swore was made by a big buck and he put a cam on it. He went back to check it months later and it was this little spike rubbing the tree, over and over and over again. So there are always exceptions to the rules.
  21. i hit a doe with my truck a few weeks ago going 55. She didn't look too bad considering i never even hit the brakes. I would have thought she would be mush, which she probably was on the inside. I considered taking some of the meat but was sure it was going to leave a bad taste in my mouth. My truck is just getting fixed now. It is hard to tell the size of a buck from the rubs. Generally the higher it is the bigger the buck.
  22. That blowing doesn't mean its over. Some deer are just wired tightly. I had a deer blow for over 10 minutes about 130 yds from me,maybe it smelled me,maybe not. There were a lot of deer filtering onto the oaks flat. More deer kept moving through even while and after the nervous nelly quieted down. This was bow season, and i shot my buck after that whole affair.
