  1. mass at base between tines means a lot,can make the difference in 120 and 140.
  2. mid 140s He is lacking mass but long main beams and decently wide.
  3. Ok, why not just have an alumimum stand built for the end of your gigantic stabilizer and camo dip it? You could even shoot with it on. You could have it hinge like a ladder, wham bam done.
  4. That was my reason for trying the Rage vs other fold back mechanicals. My F.I.L. last 2 deer because of hard quartering away shots and the fold back just bouncing off the deer. He switched to fixed and now shoots the Slicktricks. I don't like the slicktrick 4 blades, he likes the hole it leaves but I think my fixed 3 blades did a better job and got better penetration.
  5. i get the pop with my little fixed blade. It really depends on whether the deer is inhaling or exhaling when shot. I have had it where they also make no noise I don't think the size of the hole makes a difference. I will say that with my fixed blade I haven't had penetration issues if I have them with the Rage knockoffs I'll just switch to the QAD Exodus like originally planned. I just bought these on a whim to try and if I like them fine if not I'm not out much money.
  6. Yeah I saw that the other day.
  7. I'm just curious because the last time I saw them it said made in china. If they are made in the US why not market it that way and pull in more customers?
  8. Things don't add up so if they are making them for 15x less the money but if "Ping-Pong and his mom" are getting paid half that how is it they are 15x as much. The last rage package I saw said made in China, maybe they aren't anymore who knows. They might be paying someone minimum wage to put 2 blades in and a screw but it is pretty doubtful. They "make most the blades here" give me a break most that's like saying most people that hunt only deer hunt. I know the nocturnals once changed from original brand to under the Rage name they were outsourced to China. Companies are there to make a profit and that is obvious no one will produce a product just to cover their costs why would they that is bad economics. Anyone have a Rage package? Where does it say it's made?
  9. Yeah but the brand name rage are also made in china so labor cost is a wash. Now the design I'm using might be different to keep from infringing on patents maybe not . I understand what you mean but do you remember when they first came out you could buy 3 for $30 now they are $45 with the plastic shock collar? I know the shock collars don't cost $7 to make anyone with a injection molder and a mold can make the shock collars for less than $.01/ea. I don't think feradyne is doing too bad. I think they are making plenty of money based on what companies they now own.
  10. Because once fired they stay back but not past the 90* so they are not considered barbed. So with 90* requirement from the tip they pivot back 12* towards the tip making the angle 78* from the tip and longer making them barbed.
  11. Beat me to it haha, it's the only logical explanation.
  12. I've had 2 ripped clean off the tree and found about 30 feet from the tree. Not sure what their fascination with them is or why they think they taste good.
  13. I think if any of you guys are going to hunt the AM is going to be better than the PM. At least that is what my cams are telling me, they are moving more closer to dawn than dusk.
  14. I used to hunt out behind a trailer park on a small patch of land I would watch all the tenants sell drugs and what not. I had some giants running around back there. One year there was a big 13 point that I just ran out of daylight to shoot. He ended up roadkill the next morning when someone whacked him with their Ford explorer. I saw the person on the side of the road with the deer in the back of the explorer. I was going to stop and ask for the deer but figured that it being in the back of the SUV I wasn't getting it. There are some areas like that and I don't mind hunting them long as no one else is.
  15. Honestly a pretty dumb law, the setback won't affect someone shooting a dog.
  16. Not sure how it works in NJ but that if they outlawed hunting in res areas I wouldn't be able to hunt my 40 acres zoned residential..
  17. No I go in my freezer daily for some sort of meat for dinner. Now if I could get my wife to push the door shut instead of just swinging it shut I would be all set. She treats it like a fridge and the door won't seal shut if you just swing it shut vs pushing it tight.
  18. All the mature bucks on our properties were very close to sunrise and sunset, within 1 or 2 hours. I've shot 1 40 minutes after getting in stand 15 minutes after sunrise but had the buck in front of me for a while just trying to make sure he was a shooter. The other 3 were within 1 hour of sunset. 1 was actually as I was packing up I heard a crunch looked up and her comes a huge doe I grabbed my shotgun ready to pop her then I saw a giant buck chasing behind her took 3 shots but he dropped on the 3rd. That was my biggest to date 161" 10 point shot in 2008.
  19. Or a big zoom camera and catch the dirt bag.
  20. I make my own, there used to be this stuff Doc's Sweet Demise. Smelled like vanilla and some other stuff. I just took some almond extract, imitation vanilla and molasses threw it in one of those cheap spray bottles from walmart and use that. I fill it about half way with the imitation vanilla the next 1/4 water, then 1/8 almond and 1/8 molasses. Deer seem to like it, I have had them follow my trail to the stand and lick my tree steps.
  21. In my area I hear them every night going nuts in our valley. I live in beaver dams, Chemung County. Planning on getting my trapping license this coming spring maybe I can put a hurting on the population in my area there are a bunch. I would love to have someone come and trap and a lot of people in the area would too.
  22. Managed a short sit from 4pm to sunset. Spooked one coming out. I decided to pull and replace one of the cameras I had over a scrap, only a 2 day soak so I wasn't expecting much. Had 4 doe around the hours of 10PM, 1AM, and 4AM. Still only moving around during the night. Pretty disappointing, thinking I'm going to wait another week before I get back into woods and the temps drop. I plan on moving a stand so I'll just do some property maintenance in the meantime. I'll just have to live vicariously through all your posts.
