  1. Good to hear. I'm not looking to be able to re-use , I can't do it with my fixed. But the biggest thing was just hitting bones and the head still doing the job. On average how long are your shots, and how heavy are your arrows?
  2. I don't want to start a mechanical vs fixed argument so if you comment please don't try and argue the pros and cons or bash one vs the other. With that out of the way I have never shot a rage I haven't really trusted mechanical BHs. My current fixed is a 1" cutting diamter 3 blade. Can I take shots like you would with fixed heads? I know my fixed heads and how stout they are but I'm not sure about these mechanical BHs. I have shot deer facing straight on hitting the spine dropping them in the tracks, and slicing the jugular in half, I have taken 50 yard shots with good penetration (half the arrow sticking out) with my fixed BH. I'm just a little concerned that these won't perform and will loose deer. Currently I'm shooting 75gr. fixed and these will be 100 gr. mechanical. My current arrow is 368grs. with the 75gr. head with the 100gr. head it will be 393gr. will my arrow have enough punch to operate these heads properly? Right now at 40 yards or less I can get a pass thru with broadside shots and only hitting a rib on one side. Please someone reassure me that I'm not making a mistake moving to these rage. I like the idea of big wound channels on good and bad shots. My thought is the more stuff that gets cut the more likely you are to find the animal on a bad shot. The main reason why I'm switching is because my heads are no longer made and my stock pile is almost gone.
  3. You're right no screw in steps but I don't think you can't leave treestands there for more than 30 days or something like no personal property can be left on state property excluding cameras, gps receivers, or radios.
  4. Good luck getting to look at a pistol at gander or field and stream. I have been in both stores with money in had to buy guns and walked out buying it somewhere else because they just ignored me. At field and stream I went in to buy a Glock and left with a Smith but tried about 6 different pistols and the guy behind the counter was annoyed that I kept asking to try different ones. I won't shop at field and stream unless it is an emergency and need something on a weekend late at night when my local shop isn't open.
  5. It would be like getting a brazilian wax once you lean against the tree.
  6. Anyone see the interview with Micheal savage and the neighbor. Sorry I'm no conspiracy theorist but it sure seems like he might have been setup. I'm not a big fan of his because some of his views on guns but still an interesting interview. I mean Paddock had no prior anything nothing saying he was a lefty, nothing tying to terrorists, no criminal record, nothing. Pretty crazy and the perfect patsy.
  7. I agree the "2nd shots" are echoes. They said he booked a corner suite, that is why there are 2 windows blown out you can hear the shots stopping and starting again because he was moving from window to window. That was not any sort of AR/M16 unless he was running a drum mag and was in .308 I have heard .223/5.56 at a distance and that was much to loud to be the small round. Just watching shows like "Taking Fire" and hearing the sound of the enemy guns you can tell the cartridge used was larger than 5.56/.223. In this video you can hear the echoes very well. I have heard similar echoes off my father in laws barn when we shot .22's about 50 yards from it. http://82.221.129.208/beginningofshooting.mp4 On a side note anyone see the CBS lawyer that got canned after tweeting about showing no sympathy because majority of country music fans are "repuges" and "gun toters" and deserved it?
  8. Love my ladders, the one you mentioned is what I have shot a lot of my deer out of. Sounds like you are sky lined and need to picka tree with more back drop (trees, leaves, brush behind you to allow your silhouette to blend into the surroundings. I love to hang mine in pines you get the best cover.
  9. I honestly shouldn't respond to the nonsense, but none of what you typed makes sense. If you don't have the skill to hunt archery then practice you will learn the skill needed. You can have a sighted traditional just like a compound. It's the idea that you have to actually draw the bow while the animal is within plain sight. It's much more difficult than shoulder something hitting the safety and pulling a trigger. How many crossbows have you shot? How hard was it to accurately shoot it? Myself I have shot several, 3 out to 80 yards without much more than putting the correct line across the target. They are more similar to a gun than a bow and shouldn't be considered for full inclusion. I'm not sure how people can state how they shoot the same speed, fastest bow on the market 340 fastest crossbow 440. They aren't even close! I also would like to see any joe shmoe shoot 3 arrow group at 30 yards out of the 340fps bow then try the 440 wonder which will be better.
  10. Yeah bow is not the same as gun when you can reach out to 100 yards and shoot a deer through the woods without anything other than putting cross hairs on the animal it doesn't take near the skill it takes to shoot a deer with an actual bow at 30 or 40 yards. 100 yards with a rifle is a chip shot. To OP @tughillmcd add a poll to get an idea of the numbers for and against.
  11. No thanks keep it the way it is why bitch when you have the best 2 weeks of the year as it is. Take what you have or get rid of them completely go back to no crossbow.
  12. If you can get the mineral rights cheap enough so you aren't paying more than $2000/acre it might be worth it. It is still a gamble at $2000/acre whether you will make your money back on a 14 acre parcel. Fracking will never happen in NY now that it is illegal to do so (the only good thing Cuomo did). There is too much easily accessible gas in the midwest without as many restrictions as the NE to make it worth going after up here. My stipulations when buying our current house with the land was, if it was bare land it had to have mineral rights and minimum 20 acres. With a house it had to have minimum 30 acres and house big enough for the family. We settled on 40 acres and a house that needed to be remodeled and added to. All said and done we will have $180,000 invested into a property that will be worth close to $250,000 on the low end. Have you thought about financing land? Down the street from me there is 100 acres for $100,000 with "motivated seller" I bet you could get it cheaper and that includes mineral rights. This is just north of corning, and if purchasing land and financing you need 20%-30% down and you could get a much larger piece of land than what you are looking at now.
  13. I liked the 2nd week Oct. opener it gave me 2 extra weeks to get stuff around the house before I felt the need to get in the stand. Now I don't seem to ever be able to get stuff done in time of hunting season and end up wait until the 2nd weekend anyway.
  14. The prices you mentioned put you at $2200/acre. Personally I wouldn't be paying more than $1000/acre with no mineral rights, then secure the mineral rights for the extra $6000. $1766/acre is pricey for no mineral rights. Go on and look at what land is selling for without mineral rights you might be surprised. I have found land for $1000/acre-$10,000/acre with mineral rights in the southern tier just have to look around a little. Personally the property your talking about I wouldn't pay more than $15,000 for its location and without mineral rights.
  15. Wouldn't own it without mineral rights. Most banks won't finance you to put a hitable structure on the land without them. We were trying to just buy land and banks would lend the money with the 20%-30% down but financing to build a house later would not be possible with a bunch of banks.
  16. That is so true, every time he comes inside with a scrap or bump mom thinks he needs knee pads, a helmet, elbow pads the whole nine yards. I mean I never saw one on him and I was really looking for them the entire time.
  17. Depends on which side of the stand you look, Sitting looking up the hill above you makes it seem short looking down hill it seems like your a mile in the air. I hunt from 15'-25' up it all depends on the area and what I have for cover. Generally if there is less back drop higher up the tree I go the more back drop the lower I am. If I'm looking over a gully I'll be fine at 15', if I'm below a ridge I'll try to get up higher so I'm more level with the ridge. WNY beat me to it.
  18. Wait till the rut and he buffs up a bit 2.5 year old aaallllll day. Great example.
  19. Marten seem like a domesticated feline vs a bobcat when comparing them to Fisher. Not saying marten can't be mean but they are a little smaller and a little weaker.
  20. I just liked it because so many people started freaking out. Obviously people are way to sensitive.
  21. If you catch one accidentally you going to release it? If so I want a video not that I doubt you would but it would seem like a real chore.
  22. father in law has the glendel buck, it's very similar to the "block" targets when removing arrows. It's nice to have a life size target either way. I won't buy another block target once this one wears out, I've had it around 10 years and had to use ratchet straps to replace the rusted out metal onces. I also flipped the foam so the non shot up stuff is in the middle now.
