Get on the opposite side they are cutting, as they cut any deer in the field they will move over. The last few rows they cut will push those deer into the nearby woods. I would sit in the corner like you mentioned that is if you think deer will be traveling that. RIght now I would be near the ravine and corn if possible.

Check This One Out !!
chas0218 replied to Steve D's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Does not surprise me one bit. Because legal gun owners are the problem. These people have their heads so far up their butts it is ridiculous. -
I'd say 200-250. You can see the ears and head looks big for the body.

Yup heading there during lunch. -
Those things suck, the tootsie rolls get like rocks when cold.

The last few nights I have heard the grouse drumming behind the house. I haven't heard them in a few months, I was starting to think the local fisher or fox got them. The wife hates them because it wakes her up at night I love it knowing we have them around.

At least you got the bad luck out before the giant walks through today.

I thought he was from South Park always tells the class to Simmer Down all the time when they get rowdy. Haven't watched the show but had saw a commercial a few years back.

Years past I think there were a lot more deer dead at this point. Either people aren't seeing them (which is the case for me) or weather has just been crap for the weekend warriors (also me). Who are you Mr. Carl? haha

Me too, I feel your pain!

Going to the range this morning

Lefty ehh? I could never get used to the bolt on the savage. -
It does via manufacturers specs once you choose the manufacturer you choose the bullet weight and model so for instance the Hornady 95gr. SST it pulls up the superformance off the shelf data or you can put in your own data for chronographed loads, but it does use the Bullets BC in the calculations. It isn't perfect but for my .270 with handloads it was real close. No doubt but I like the ability of just putting the crosshairs on the deer instead of hold over/unders.

I thought the new ones flip back up. I don't use the 3 blades so I wouldn't know but I thought they re-designed them from the originals.
-
But if they get the full inclusion they are pushing for it will be. Why do you think people keep mentioning? No restrictions means no restrictions on draw weight or axle to axle, ect. Might as well allow the air bow.

Curious as to what manufacturer glass they use. Really nice to have the yardage etched on the BDC.

Scope Mounting Via Box Store (NFG)
chas0218 replied to Lawdwaz's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
The added expense is your the added aggravation and time fixing what the big box store screwed up. I like doing it myself and even without a bore sighter I still manage to zero my scope quickly. Start at 25 yards then 50 then 100. Pretty easy stuff and youtube is only a click away. -
No doubt, I just added that. I have went out to 350 yards and the calculator was pretty darn close. Not saying it is for all cartridges but the Kentucky windage as my buddy calls it worked pretty good.
-
You can do that using the Nikon spot on ballistic calculator. It takes into account your zero, the speed of the cartridge and scope. Obviously you should shoot at those distances to verify.

Scope Mounting Via Box Store (NFG)
chas0218 replied to Lawdwaz's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
What is sad is saw a guy do it at Dick's he had the bench on the counter and putting the scope on with the bore sighter. I looked at it and made a mention it was 90* off, the guy laughed at me and said he does 5 or 6 of them a week and knows what he is doing. I laughed and said "I'm sure you do, but hopefully you do the others right". He looked at me with a disgusted look and ask with a snarky tone "You need anything?" I left to him tightening down the screws with it 90* off still. I mean if you are working at the gun counter you should know the general basics of firearms. Another time another store I overheard the clerk telling a guy he needed a 300 win mag for deer. I later saw the customer looking at ammo and talked to him about guns and ammo he said the clerk didn't know his butt from a hole in the ground. What can you do but laugh. -
95gr. Hornady sst reloaded a little on the hotter side. I took it up to overpressure signs then backed it off until they were gone. Haven't been able to chrono but should be around 3200fps.

Her current .243 and her 20ga. are standard length stock and has no issues. She likes the longer stock so isn't right on top of the scope. @Culvercreek hunt club I wasn't thinking about the lighter rifle. Obviously I don't want a benchrest rifle but also don't want something super light. I was thinking around 6.5lbs. would be about perfect. The Tikka T3 with the stainless barrel is getting my attention right now.

Father in law has a 7mm-08 I think I'll have to get him down here so I can shoot her neither of us have a 25-06. Would be nice to have similar guns so if we need to swap ammo or be able to reload a little for him. Thanks for making up my mind guys.

Light him up! it's a downward shot just get the arrow when you're done.

The .270 is a bit much for recoil for my wife a "little uncomfortable" as she put it. I don't want to get her a gun she doesn't like to shoot because it hurts. She will be flinching every time she shoots and that's no good. So recoil wise I know the .270 is highest but compared to the 25-06 is it basically a wash? I know the 7mm-08 is a larger bullet .284" vs .250", my wife isn't a wuss by any means but I don't want her to flinch because she is scared of the recoil. FWIW she used to shoot the old 20ga. 1187 slug gun and didn't really complain.
-
You guys take the 7mm-08 over a 25-06 or .270? Really considering one for my wife so we can give my oldest the .243 for his first rifle. I'm looking at the Tikka T3 compact 40" overall length with 20" barrel.
