But what you don't get genius is that I was never trying to prove or disprove any facts. You seem hellbent on making your point, as off the mark as it may be. Were you on the debate team in high school by any chance? So let me make this simple for you. Let's assume you are completely correct and your facts have been 100% proven. The next step for you to take then is to hit the Ignore User button. You do yourself, and the board, a much greater service, by doing that then by your posts. By the way, I notice you have a label in your signature calling you a "Supporting Member" and "HuntingNY Supporter". I would assume that the "support" you give is financial? Because you certainly don't seem to support the board by promoting harmony, friendship and mutual respect amongst the board members. I have found a number of your posts to be contentious, demeaning and or belittling. I wonder how much your financial support to the board is, and if it's really worth it to the board's owner, given the damage your negative posts do to the board's brand value. At some point, your and others negative comments repeatedly directed at a certain person are bullying, and I am fed up with it.

If her posts bother you, you just need to hit the ignore user button. Again, I make no attempt to defend or justify her posts, I only wish to reduce the amount of negativity on the board. There is no argument to "win" here, so stop trying.

Reread what I wrote. The key word is "if". It's called conditional tense. If you chose not to block her, that's your right. You say that you've never personally insulted or demeaned her. Well, in my opinion you've indirectly mocked her and called her a liar. Semantics. Point is, what you write about her, even if not directly addressed to her, is, for lack of a better work, "negative". An you aren't the only one that does this. All of these negative comments add up, and it gets to a point where it starts to detract from the community. That's why I suggested, for your benefit and for the benefit of the community, if you can't refrain from these negative comments, that you just block her. If you think about it, if it is truly attention she is after, your posts feed into that. I'm posting, not because I wish to defend Growalot, or attack you, but because I'm fed up in general with the growing negativity I've been reading lately.

Belo, there is a very simple solution to your problem. Hover over Growalot's name in one of her posts and click on "Ignore User". Check all the categories and boom! she goes away. You won't see any of her post's, et al. Nothing more to gnaw at you. You can just focus on contributing to the huntingny.com community. Now, if you don't ignore her, and you still continue to bitch about or talk about her, well then you must be doing so for the attention.

I have a mental image of a famous scene from the movie Top Secret! with Val Kilmar involving a cow.

In my mind I was thinking hardwoods. I currently hunt shotgun in Niagara county in tree rows along overgrown fields. Thinking about finding some land that has mostly hardwoods and or closer to where I live. (Could be shotgun or rifle, depending on county.) Thanks for your responses. So it sounds like 10 acres of hardwoods per rifle hunter would be a minimum, as a crude rule of thumb. Myself, I'd like to get around 50 acres, with a minimum of 25. Not a lot out there for sale, and what is out there get's pricey. I will take a closer look at lease opportunities.

go for it. I think you can go a little lower than the previous offer. But a few things for you two consider: What is the market value of the property, how many other potential similar parcels are there near you, and is it worth losing the land over a few thousand dollars. Give a solid cash offer at $1,500 per acre, all-cash, with a large deposit.

From a certain angle, they look like coyotes . . . . SSS
-
Is there a guideline for how many acres of woods per hunter for gun season? How about is the land has some fields or meadows? From Belo's thread it sounds like >10 acres per gun hunter?

Where can i buy a dishonest scale? Beats going on a diet. My wife says she'd use it, too.

(a bit of a tangent) I like store brand Slim Jims. Slim Jims have a fair amount of fat in them. I have come across some copycat slim jim/snack stick recipes, and they don't have as much or any fat. I don't understand why the copycat recipes don't have a comparable amount of fat in them, or how they can be comparable in taste. Any slim jim/snack stick experts on the board?

Possibly the start of the second rut?

Regrettably, I did not stay for the afternoon. Couple of lame excuses. Hope I don't regret it. Live and learn.

Well, we watched and waited, the last row was finished around 12:30. No deer. One pheasant got kicked out. I'll be back out Sunday, maybe catch one first thing in the morning feeding on the combine leftovers. I think it was a relatively small field, so less likely to trap deer? Also, with the apples and corn out of the way, I am hopeful that the deer will start paying some attention to the food plots I planted.
-
Does it make sense to hunt near a cornfield as it is being cut? Its a huge noisy harvester. Will deer get kicked out, or are they already long gone? Better the day after?
-
So where did all the deer go? Are they all lounging around somewhere smoking cigarettes and telling each other how good they were in rut?
-
In the stand in 9A. Hunting with my BIL today. Very windy but mild. Wind will die down, and temps will drop, in the pm. Will take a luch break at Ray's Tavern. Wish the neighbor would cut down their corn field already . . . .

silly question: What do you think of the idea of blow drying the inside of the carcass with a cordless leaf blower if you have to rinse it out?

Could you shoot a crossbow from your house?

I missed on a doe at 45 yards this morning. (hangs head in shame). Doe ran into the food plot, stops, and looks up at me. I freeze. It starts slowly moving across the food plot. When it goes behind a small tree, I try to sight it in my scope. It starts running. I overcompensated for it running, shooting twice in front of it. Fortunately, it literally ran to my hunting buddy's stand 300 yards away in the other field. He also got another deer in the afternoon, a 1 point buck (spike with one broken off; he thought it was a big doe). He let me have the doe and he kept the spike. I'm glad we went out despite the crappy weather forecast. Once we got past the 1.5 hrs of rain this morning, it really wasn't that bad until 4:00. Then it started to pour. We passed on the magic hour (had just finished field dressing the 1 pointer) but overall can't complain.

Live from the blind. As (I'll look later) suggested, i wore rain gear to my blind and packed extra layer , harness and orange vest in a dry bag. Dry and relatively warm in blind. Treestands nearby for when rain lets up. Good luck and be safe everyone
