  1. Pretty interesting concept but can't help but wonder why the emphasis is on saving elk and deer first and then humans. Seems like they could do some parallel testing especially if it could possibly lead to the cure of Alzhheimer's, ALS, and Parkinson's
  2. Believe it or not...It does work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FosQqV0O_9E
  3. I guess I should have said "as far as I am concerned"
  4. A Year in the life of eastern coyotes: The priorities and behavior for a coyote family vary depending on the time of year. Below is an overview of the major events that drive coyote behavior. » January - February: Courtship and mating occurs between the pack's breeding pair (the coyote mother and father) » January - April: Generally it's the breeding female who begins to prepare for potential coyote pups by digging a den or locating a pre-existing one: sometimes that of smaller borrowing animal like a badger or groundhog, dowened trees, brush piles, or abandoned structures. Dens are usually well camouflaged and generally used for pup-rearing only » March - April: A coyote's gestation period, or length of pregnancy, is 62 days, and usually pups are born between March and April. Typical litter sizes are approximately 4-6 pups
  5. Not necessarily. They may or may not be breeding yet. It is kind of early but can happen any time now. More than likely they are pairing up though and have a tendency to be more aggressive at that time. You are not ignorant. Just like deer they will start breeding at different times in different areas. Just keep trying and experimenting. Just when you least expect it; it will all come together. If you figure it out let the rest of us know.Frustration and disappointment is part of it. Wait til you miss one or hit one and it gets away. Challenging critter for sure.
  6. I don't put a lot of stock in polls but try to keep an eye on them. Polls and surveys can be steered in one direction based on how and who they are given to. They are usually given or taken to get the answer or solution they want. A good example was the presidential election
  7. I guess it doesn't matter now. Best we can hope for is for the trend to continue in hopes it puts his ego in the toilet.
  8. Gov. Andrew Cuomo's popularity hits new low, poll says: “Now, for the first time ever, half of New Yorkers view Andrew Cuomo unfavorably. It’s his lowest favorability rating ever and his lowest-ever job performance as governor,” Steven Greenberg, a Siena College poll spokesman, said in a statement. Cuomo's senior adviser Rich Azzopardi dismissed the poll, saying it appears to be an outlier because Cuomo, Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and the state Legislature all fell off. He said the poll "doesn’t reflect the sentiment of New Yorkers. We’ve had the most productive month in history that finally saw the passage of popular, long-stalled legislation, and we’re going to continue to move New York forward.” Whole article: https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/politics/albany/2019/02/11/andrew-cuomos-popularity-hits-low-poll-siena-abortion-new-york/2833906002/
  9. Just one opinion but usually this time of year they start to get somewhat territorial as they start to mate. One thing to try is to switch to pup distress just loud enough for them to hear it. Play it for a couple of minutes then go silent, sit and wait. Some times they will come charging in and other times they will sneak in looking for the source. Be ready for two or more because they are more than likely paired up.
  10. DEC Statewide Forest Ranger Highlights Forest Ranger Actions for 2/4 - 2/10/19
  11. Erie County Distressed Wildlife Complaint: At 3 p.m., Ranger John Kennedy was contacted by a Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve volunteer informing him that two male deer were entangled by their antlers and unable to free themselves. Ranger Kennedy notified ECO Scott Marshall for assistance. As Ranger Kennedy arrived on scene, he spotted six people with cameras taking photos of the two bucks. To ensure the bystanders' safety, Ranger Kennedy advised the onlookers to back away to a safe distance. The two bucks were both standing and moving left to right trying to free themselves, but to no avail. With the aid of a reach pole, the officers separated the two animals. Although exhausted, both deer ran away in opposite directions and appeared to be in good health. Two adult male deer entangled by their antlers
  12. Looks like he used bird shot but more importantly he didn't aim to make the shot count. Looks more like a point and shoot so probably most of it did no damage at all.
  13. Cuomo appoints new state parks commissioner: "This administration is laser focused on the advancement and enforcement of policies that improve the lives of residents in every corner of this state, from strengthening gun safety reforms and protecting our natural resources, to fostering economic opportunities that create new, 21st century jobs for New Yorkers," Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Mr. Kulleseid graduated from Yale College, has a law degree from Stanford Law School and later obtained a forestry master's degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He practiced law at a Wall Street firm in the early 1990s. He grew up in the Hudson Valley next to Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve, and now lives in downtown Albany with his husband and two daughters. His first formal job was as a lifeguard at Harriman State Park's Lake Welch in 1982.
  14. The definition of a "mass shooting" according to this website is" four or more victims shot and or killed". Counting today; so far in 2019 there have been 39 recorded mass shootings across the country averaging about 6.5 mass shootings per week. We even had one here in NY that I never heard about: https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting Gunfire in lobby of Brooklyn building kills 1, wounds 3 February 7, 2019 NEW YORK (AP) — Police say gunfire inside a Brooklyn building has left one person dead and three others hospitalized. Detective Adam Navarro reports the shooting happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at a party in the lobby of an apartment building at 1778 Fulton Street https://apnews.com/f3d8fdcc8a6745fd827c9fa149084c6f
  15. Not quite sure what you are asking me to do. Don't you have a herd to attend to or is the snow to deep up that way you can't get out?
  16. BS.... What is a proven fact is that I can go deer hunting or any other type of hunting, never see or harvest a thing and still enjoy the day. I think it is called a love for the outdoors.
  17. Regardless of what you believe I personally hunt because I enjoy hunting and being in the woods especially the month of October. I never go to the woods with the expectation of seeing or shooting a wall hanger. If it happens great. If not I have still enjoyed a lot of days in the woods without even seeing a deer.
  18. I wasn't listening to them in the first place and thought it was odd that Cuomo would agree or push to have it there when many places upstate would have been a better fit and could use the 25,000 jobs. Doesn't surprise me they pulled out since they can probably go just about anywhere they want. Cuomo was only looking for the revenue any way. He could care less about the jobs.
