One Reason I Would Vote For Trump Again
Steve D replied to Steve D's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Notes on Refugees and Asylees What is the difference between a refugee and an asylee? In the United States, the main difference is the person's location at the time of application. Refugees are nearly always outside of the United States when they are considered for resettlement, whereas asylum seekers submit their applications while physically present in or at a port of entry to the United States. Asylum seekers can submit an asylum request either affirmatively or defensively. The affirmative asylum process applies to persons who initially file an asylum application with USCIS as well as applicants who subsequently have their application referred by USCIS to the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). The defensive asylum process applies to persons in removal proceedings who appear before EOIR and people who apply for asylum at U.S. borders and points of entry. Table 4. Top Ten Countries of Refugee Admissions by Nationality, FY 2018 Once again I agree with you. Our LONG TIME immigration laws need to be changed, tightened up, and enforced. Since the current wave of Democrats do not seem to think the laws need to be tightened now or did in the past we can expect to continue to receive the onslaught of immigrants for quite some time unless something drastic happens. Another tidbit: Rate of illegal crossings from Canada rising nearly as rapidly as at U.S. border with Mexico In fiscal year 2017, immigration agents detained a total of 540 people compared to 960 in fiscal year 2018. The largest spike occurred along the Swanton border patrol section, which includes the borders of New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont, where 548 people were apprehended in 2018, up from 165 in all of 2017. While these numbers are significantly smaller than the crossings at the southern border, the lack of outrage against illegal activity on the northern border is emblematic of President Trump’s war against black and brown immigrants and asylum seekers. -

I agree 100% but if they(Democrats) won't assist/help him in stopping it and continue to curtail his attempts to stop it, or come up with a solution to fix it someone has to deal with it. Let those that welcome them attempt to deal with it. Unfortunately we will all have to bear the burden. They are fighting the wall, closing the border, and our aide to the countries sending them is not working. What else is left. -
One Reason I Would Vote For Trump Again

I think what he is trying to accomplish here is to make everyone see just how serious the issue is. If so called "sanctuary" cities who are harboring and supporting the illegals have to deal with the issues at hand instead of blaming the federal government on how they are being handled maybe they will see just how difficult and expensive it is. Those that welcome them will soon realize how expensive and potentially dangerous the situation can become and will be pushing the Federal government for funding to support, care & feed these illegals. Maybe then the taxpayers will get involved and start complaining about their tax dollars being spent for this purpose and will wake up to the fact we cannot as a nation be a free open door mission for the number of people descending on our communities. We can't and don't take care of our own as well as the illegals are expected to be taken care of. -

I would be the first one to agree that he overstated his campaign promises but in defense he has done some things that have helped Americans. I think he could have and would accomplish more if the senators and congressmen and women would stop fighting him every step of the way. I think he has a good vision of what needs to be done but unfortunately the rest of the "politicians" seem to be more interested in more investigations that can be twisted in a way to make the current administration/Trump look crooked and incompetent instead of doing the job they were elected to do. -
I love his way of thinking Trump Declares ‘Absolute Right’ To Send Undocumented Immigrants To Sanctuary Cities “We hereby demand that they be taken care of at the highest level,” he added. “Especially by the State of California, which is well known or [sic] its poor management & high taxes!” When asked by NPR whether the mayor would welcome buses filled with 5,000 immigrants coming to the city next week, Schaaf confirmed that she would. “I always say, welcome to Oakland,” the mayor told NPR. NPR pushed Schaaf on the issue again, asking the mayor to clarify whether she’d “welcome more migrants” into Oakland. “I said yes,” Schaaf replied. “Oakland welcomes all people.” https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-declares-absolute-right-immigrants-sanctuary-cities_n_5cb28503e4b098b9a2d4a1e9

I would love to know what that is like. Wind here has been 30-40mph all week and most of the winter

Fantastic tribute. It is to bad everyone cannot have a story like that.

At todays prices approx. $16,000-$19,200. The hours spent skinning, fleshing, stretching, and drying would be hard to comprehend and if he paid someone to do it his earnings would be even less. None the less it is quite the accomplishment.

Not New York but I came across this recent article from PA : Pennsylvania Game Commission officials were hoping that the 2018 harvest was going to break the 4,000-bear barrier for a third time in state history. With a bear population estimated at 20,000 and a solid start to the November firearms season, the conditions looked promising. However, Game Commission officials said unfavorable weather conditions dashed the hopes of a 4,000-plus-bear harvest. The 2018 bear harvest came in at 3,153 bears, 11th-best all-time, but also the lowest bear harvest in the past 11 years. “I thought Pennsylvania was capable of producing a 4,000-bear harvest the past two years,” said Mark Ternent, Game Commission bear biologist, in a news release. “But we’ve had some bad breaks with weather events during our bear seasons the past two years. “With better hunting conditions, I do believe hunters would have taken another 1,000 bears in each of the past two seasons,” he said. Some big bears taken: The largest bear harvested in 2018 weighed an estimated 780 pounds. It was taken with a rifle in Howe Township, Forest County, on the second day of the general bear season by Michael J. Rubeo, of Mercer. A day later, a 708-pound male was taken by Timothy J. Weaver, of Dallas, Pa., with a rifle in Harvey’s Lake Borough, Luzerne County. Tioga County finished with 166 bears to take the top county bear harvest. It was followed by Lycoming County with 159. Other top counties for bear harvests in 2018 were: Clinton, 158; Huntingdon, 142; Potter, 109; Luzerne, 105; Pike, 104; and Monroe, 103. https://www.yorkdispatch.com/story/sports/outdoors/2019/02/09/pa-bear-harvest-lowest-11-years-but-includes-4-york-county-bears/2822521002/

Concealed Carry in Onondaga County
Steve D replied to boo711's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
When I hear of things like this it really fry's me so I started doing some looking. It seems that your major stumbling block could be the "Sheriffs" department since they process the applications. I looked up the penal law they refer to and it says: (f) have and carry concealed, without regard to employment or place of possession, by any person when proper cause exists for the issuance thereof; http://ypdcrime.com/penal.law/article400.htm#p400.00 The two key words in this sentence are "proper cause" which no one has defined except to say it doesn't pertain to "self protection". From The Onondaga Sheriffs Application: "Carry Concealed:>> Without regard to employment or place of possession by any person when "proper cause" exists for the issuance thereof or to carry with limited restrictions" https://sheriff.ongov.net/pistol-license-unit/ If it was me I think I would complete the “Proper Cause” for a “Carry Concealed” Pistol License Form and try to get a appointment with one of the judges and try to plead your case one on one and hope he or she will be sympathetic. Dear Neighbor, The Governor and his allies in the new Senate Majority made funding available for the undocumented immigrants to go to college while cutting funding for the Veterans Outreach Center of Monroe County in, reducing from $500,000 to $250,000. I ask how can the vital services needed by the heroes who defended our country ever take a back seat to those who violated our laws? Well, in this budget that happened time and time again. While the Veterans Funding was cut in half, the Democrats passed a new policy to allow at least 90% of those accused of a crime to walk free with an appearance ticket pending a trial. I ask you to take a stand with me and tell the Governor and the Senate Majority that we stand with our Veterans. It was only after the people voiced their displeasure and anger that the Governor realized his fallacy and restored the money he cut to the Special Olympics. Sign my petition below and once again call upon the Governor to do the right thing restore full funding to the Veterans Outreach Center of Monroe County. https://www.nysenate.gov/…/restore-funding-veterans-outreac…

New York State has gained 1.1 million private sector jobs since 2010, but 88% of them were created downstate. Upstate New York as a whole created 53,000 fewer jobs than Brooklyn alone during that same period. As the economy worsened, more people left. 42 upstate counties have lost population since 2010 totaling 93,000 people. Why are they leaving? To me, the answer is clear. According to the Tax Foundation, a Washington DC tax policy research organization New Yorkers pay more tax per-captia than any other state. This impact is particularly pernicious upstate where income growth is more stagnant. This crisis of high taxes and population loss is a double whammy. Enter the New York City Democrats and their agenda in the State Legislature. The recent State Budget proves that sometimes the proposed cure can be worse than the disease. Eager to spend more on progressive programs my colleagues in the Senate Democrat majority working with Governor Cuomo raised taxes by billions. They hit sick folks with a prescription drug tax, car renters with a 6% fee, those who purchase on the internet with a new tax and they even slapped a fee on your grocery bags. This is the opposite of what we need and ignores the crisis we face. To make matters worse Governor Cuomo and his allies made bizarre choices in this budget. They spent $27 million for tuition assistance for illegal immigrants. They lowered jail sentences on these same folks to prevent lawful deportation and they forever changed our criminal justice system to help criminals while putting law abiding citizens at greater risk. No one is leaving New York because we don't pass enough progressive policies. People are leaving because the state isn't affordable and upstate in particular lacks economic opportunity. The Democrats who are running our state are absolutely tone deaf to the real challenges and needs of our region. Secure in their colloquial cacoons, they imagine a more utopian world and ignore reality. If you thought the budget and the first three months of this legislative session were bad-wait till you see what's coming. Legalization of prostitution and marijuana, farm worker legislation that will bankrupt farms, free health care for illegal immigrants and government run healthcare that will bankrupt the entire state. I urge all people of good will in our region-Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, to come together to stop what’s happening. Engaged citizens holding their elected leaders accountable can still stop this train from running over all of us. This is not a choice between left and right, it’s a choice between hope and insanity, growth and stagnation, common sense and doctrinaire ideology. Our time is not finished in upstate New York but the hour is late. These are the times that try men's souls. And he didn't even mention Cuomo's $ 250,000 Salary/Raise

Cuomo to become highest paid governor in the nation. State legislators approved a salary increase Monday for Gov. Cuomo that will make him the highest paid governor in the country. Cuomo's salary will jump from the current $200,000 to a nation-leading $250,000 over the next three years

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has let it be known that it would like to hear from residents that may know about or happen upon an active bear den in the state. DEC Acting Commissioner Basil Seggos was upbeat when he said, "There is great value in having resident participation for this type of wildlife research. DEC's wildlife biologists use public feedback from these studies as a guidance measure for future wildlife management and planning efforts. I encourage anyone that encounters a bear den to follow our safety instructions and reach out to their local DEC office for reporting"

Many thanks to everyone. Had a productive day. My daughter & I went to Pa. and got our Pa. pistol permits. Well worth the effort and easy to do. The entire process took less than a 1/2 hr. and gives the right to carry in about 25 states. -
I run four tv's off an antenna and am able to pull in about 40 plus channels. I hate commercials also and If there is something I want to watch I record it on one of these and blow through the commercials. They run about $50.00 at Walmart. They record to a flash drive so you can watch it on tv or a computer. Not as fancy as direct tv or dish but they serve the purpose. A 32 gb flash drive will hold about three hours.. I bought one for up stairs and one for down so I can watch it on either tv. One months' satellite bill more than covered the cost. The nice part about these is they come with guide which you don't get with just an antenna. You don't have the diversity of cable or satellite but it is a hell of a lot cheaper.

An Invasive New Tick Is Spreading in the U.S. The Asian long-horned tick was first identified in New Jersey last November. The species now has been reported in the suburbs of New York City and as far west as Arkansas.CreditJames Gathany/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention There also another virus to be concerned with called "powassan disease" https://www.cdc.gov/powassan/index.html Contrary to popular belief ticks do not die off because of the cold: If we have a cold winter where temperatures stay cold long enough, tick populations will be lower the next year. ... Some species, like the deer tick, which is primarily responsible for the spread of Lyme disease, can tolerate colder temperatures.
