My go to beers are Heineken, Stella Artois, Sam Adams Octoberfest, and Hoegaarden. I'll drink Bud Light and Coors when I feel like I need to spend less and be cheap. Every once in a while, when I feel like changing things up I'll go stronger flavored beer like the Dog Fishhead, Brooklyn Lager, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. Also, I always stick to the theme so at a Japanese restaurant I'll drink Sapporo, Italian - Peroni, Thai - Singha, etc.

Thanks, Deerthug!

Did you post up a recipe for this famous chilli of yours? Did I miss it or is it a family secret?

Apoallo, I was in a rush so I found a quick setup and it worked great for me but haven't had time to tinker with it since. I used CCI #9 primers, 777 pellets, and TC Shockwaves (.50 caliber) at 250 grains. I was getting 1 and 1/2" inch groups out to 100 yards with only 2 pellets (100 grains of powder). There isn't really a place for me to range it out to 200 yards readily available but I'm sure with 3 pellets (150 grains of powder) I can get some nice groups out to 150 yards easily. The doe I shot was at around 50-70 yards and it couldn't have been any better. Went in one side, obliterated both lungs, and barely made it out of the other side (exit hole was small). Meaning probably 90% of the energy was released into the target.

Struck out on opening day squirrel
Elmo replied to Stretcher Guy's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
While out yesterday, food was abundant. You couldn't take a single step without stepping on an acorn. Strange considering the one squirrel we did lay eyes on was skinny and small. -
Cleaning muzzleloaders is a serious consideration. You have to clean it constantly and pretty much right after you use it. I have no experience with bolt action muzzleloaders but I'd just imagine that's some extra pieces and steps needed to clean. I have the Wolf and I'm completely satisfied with it. Especially at its price point. Also, based on my limited experience, every time I go to the gun shop, I see .45 cals and .50 cals and #9 primers. Don't think I've seen .54 caliber or #10 primers. Availability of ammo and accessories should also be considered.

Struck out on opening day squirrel
Elmo replied to Stretcher Guy's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
First time out for me today. Hunted from 2:30 till 6:30. Struck out as well. Heard a few but couldn't see them through the thick leaves. What gives? Same time last year, I shot one and another would pop out in a different tree. It was like that carnival game where you kept hitting the alligator with the mallet. Not this year. Nothing. What do you suppose is the reason? -
Welcome aboard, Merlot.

I hear you Vince. It's not as easy as it sounds. I live within walking distance of 4 aunts and uncles houses and my parents. 15 minute bus ride from my wife's parents. Work is 1/2 an hour away via public transportation. So is my wife's. Way too many roots here holding me down. That's not even counting my life long friends. I just have to save enough money to buy a house in southern Westchester. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

Seems like several people here on this forum are trying to start a Long Island newbie hunting group. Wonder how come they haven't contacted each other?

Started because some kid thugs started buying realistic looking ones and mugging people at night or buying airsoft guns (also illegal), painting the red tip block and doing the same thing. Next thing you know, some cop shoots a kid with what they thought was a gun and it turned out to be a toy and bam! they ban airguns and bb guns. Only that politicians were asleep when they decided to pass the law so no one got up and said "wait...if this is to ban imitations from being used, why don't we just ban realistic looking ones and leave the other airguns that don't look like real guns alone?"
-
In my opinion, a lot of laws are setup so that the government can use it at their discretion but they don't enforce it otherwise. Most of the time it's because someone did something stupid and sued the city. For example, j-walking. How many people j-walk right in front of cops and probably don't even realize it's illegal and the cops never do anything. I'm sure most of the cops don't even know climbing a tree is illegal.

You're good to go. Only in NYC it's a no-no. Every where else you're fine.

Bow Hunting Rocky Point - What do I need to know?
Elmo replied to Lord of War's topic in Bow Hunting
Scout several locations. I respect the first come first serve policy. If its a location with designated parking spots and there is already a car parked there, I find a new location. If it's a spot with multiple parking spots, I'll hike in but the moment I notice another hunting at a location, I'll turn around as to not trample through his/her hunting spot and hike to another location. Blinds will be more comfortable as you can bring a pop-up chair with you but tree stands will provide you with better shooting angle and lane that you can't get from the ground. Blinds also shield your movement which allows you to stretch those achy frozen muscles without much disturbance. Problem with blinds is they really stand out. Deer travel that route every day. They'll notice a mound that wasn't there yesterday. While not as noticeable, deer will see the tree stand as well unless you're literally right on top of them. The notion that deer don't look up since they never deal with danger from above so they can't see you is false. If you're staring at the house across the street, you don't have to look up to notice someone standing on the second floor balcony. In the end, both provide an added advantage but neither one is truly necessary in my personal opinion. I've had a deer come in less than 10 yards away from me simply by sandwiching myself between a rock wall and a tree. (unfortunately, the deer happened to come in right in the direction of the tree so I had the tree blocking me. It stood right at the turn in its trail before sniffing me out. Two more steps and I would have had my shot) Finding and hiding in natural cover won't stand out as much as portable blind since the deer has seen that fallen tree, boulder, or whatever everyday and already thinks it's harmless. -
Hello from Bronx as well.

Sort of got a rag tag group here in NYC that hasn't quite been fully or properly organized. I would put more of an effort but can't do so this year. Suffolk kind of far from NYC though. Do you hunt Long Island mainly? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

Guy driving off after being pepper sprayed. I don't know about that.
