Congratulations on passing! Not really all that "stupid". Some place and/or some game is like that. For example, in Jersey legal hunting hours is 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. I can see how that can be mistaken.

#1. It's really messed up that the government is taking lifetime license money and using it for something other than it was intended to. #2. While you want people to contribute to conservation, you can't demand it. #3. Those who do contribute, do so in their own way. Some simply can't afford it. I contribute by donating $50 here, $25 there, but I can't afford to do so all the time and so getting a lifetime license makes more sense to me. Maybe if I had tons of money, I can afford to buy an annual license each year but then if I had tons of money, wouldn't it be better to buy a life time license and then give a $5000 donation to park conservation instead? People contribute what they can and what makes them comfortable. Just because one person can give more doesn't make them a better person. #4. With that said, I have not problem with those who don't contribute at all but I do shake my head when I listen to people who preach about conservation but don't contribute at all. It's like they cry foul but sit back and wait for someone else to fix the problem. There are some hunters who preach about the dying sport and tradition and how we should promote hunting but do nothing to promote it because doing so would cut into their hunting time and potentially introduce competition to their pristine hunting spots. Sure, they bring their kids. That's how they keep the tradition alive. But really, they're your kids. As a parent, they're suppose to spend time with their kids. Hunting or not.

http://www.medpagetoday.com/InfectiousDisease/GeneralInfectiousDisease/40674 Be careful out there. Not as prevalent as Lyme disease but much more dangerous and a higher rate of death. Stay covered.

I'm pretty sure its for all deer. Just my guess.

So I'm just trying to imagine the conversation. Farmer brings you to the farm. Ask you to help him with his deer problem. Environmental office which you pick up the nuisance permits from tells you to blast away because they're having major problems in the area. A buck shows up and is munching away on the farmers crop like a fat kid in a ice cream shop. You just sit there and watch. Farmer comes running up to you scream "What the hell!?!? That buck is eating me out of my livelihood!" You turn and tell the farmer. "Nah, I'm saving him till he's a full size trophy 8 pointer."

I will be out there as well. I've already had it up to here with nursery building and stroller reviewing and I still have the hospital tour and lamaze class to do. If I don't get out into the woods at some point I might end up putting my head through a wall.

The houses here are pretty packed. I drive through here all the time when I go hunting and pass several groups of deer all the time. The biggest stretch of grass is along the highway which means any thing shot with an arrow will inevitably run across a busy highway. The fact that they're considering this plan gives me the hint that the home owners here are not very welcoming to hunters.

Welcome to hunting and welcome to the forum. Good luck and feel free to ask away with any question you may have.

Took almost 4 months for me to get my NYC long gun permit.

I've started watching "Fresh Track with Randy Newberg". "Meat Eater" still tops for me. Tried watching "Gunning It with Benny Spies" but he's too much of a goofball for me. I just don't like to watch any shows featuring around canned and preserve hunts.

I remember this case. People forget that "protect and serve" is their slogan but they never asked protect and serve who? The answer to that question is society and community. NOT the individual. If a deranged gunman is wandering around like when the Boston bomber was on the loose, the cops duty is to try and apprehend the suspect. NOT to post guard at each home and to make sure each family is safe. This is where all those anti-gun idiots have no idea about the law. All those who kept saying that we should just let the cops handle it. If a Boston bomber was wandering around my neighborhood, sure, I'll let the cops chase after him but I'm going to rely on my guns to protect my family if that terrorist ever decides my home would be a nice place to hide.

Notice how little fruit and vegetables and how unhealthy modern countries tend to eat compared to poorer countries.

Can't you use an auxiliary cable to play music?

Woah! So sorry to hear about this. I wish your dad a speeding and successful recovery. -
I have my pins set at 20, 30, and, 40 yards but honestly the 40 yard pin is just for the range. I know I'm not go enough right now to take a 40 yard shots so all my setups are 30 yards and under. If the deer is within 10 yards I'll still use my 20 yard pin and aim for the middle of the boiler room. An inch high or an inch low at the boiler room 10 yards away isn't going to make that much of a difference.

I high beamed a bunch with the rental car when I was leaving the Grand Canyon at night when I was in AZ.

Looking for a backpack
Elmo replied to Hunting3m's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
The bag has straps on it to hook to the tree so you can access stuff easily when in a tree stand but I never really use it because I use this instead: http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Big-Game-Treestands-Multi-Hook-Accessory-Holder&i=429226&aID=503H5&merchID=4006 So when I get into the stand, I take out everything I need, water, binos, calls, etc and hang them to these hooks right above my head. -
Looking for a backpack
Elmo replied to Hunting3m's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
This is the bag I use. While it's listed as more than you're willing to pay, I actually paid under $50 for it. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3676707&ppp=34&cp=4406646.4413993.4414427.4414468 Every summer, hunting gear usually goes on sale as they make room for their new inventory. You may have already missed the big sales or it might be coming up in the next week or so. As far as what backpack is good for you, I have to agree with NFA-ADK. I spend all day in the field so I usually carry drinks, food, first-aid kit, compass/maps, fire starter, GPS with extra batteries, extra clothing layer, and some field dressing stuff and game calls if I'm hunting and not scouting. Yes, some light trips, the bag is bigger than I need it to be but I rather have it empty during light treks than have to have multiple bags for different occasions. As far as which bag is best for you, to me, bags are like clothes. You have to try them on and see how they feel on your back. Each individual is different. If I'm going to have something strapped to my back all day like several miles, I want it to be comfortable, hugs my back, and holds it's weight well. Heavy duty waist straps are makes a huge difference. -
In other words, even a completely bias Trayvon supporter couldn't find a reason to find Zimmerman guilty. Let it go.

Just like today where we have some hunters that really shouldn't be hunting due to their lack of practice, they had those back in the days as well. The number of wounded deer due to poorly placed arrows was staggering even as recent as the 1960's. Of course that was right before animal ethics became a hot topic but deer with arrows sticking out of their hind quarters was one of the reason why there was an animal ethics movement. No you can choose to go with a recurve and shoot instinctively if you have the skills for it but having such technology available to the masses is certainly not a bad thing. Remember, hunting is not a competition. If you want to limit yourself and test yourself, you still can. Comparing us to frontiersmen is totally unfair. In todays time, we only hunt during the weekend while we work in a cubicle during the week. Men and women during those times hunt every single day as it was there livelihood.

For me, my life is dominated by hunting in the fall/winter and softball in the spring/summer. Double header this Sunday...last regular season games. We have to sweep and the 8th place team has to lose both of their games for us to make the playoffs. A few years ago I severely sprained my ankle sliding into second on a double. I played the entire playoffs with it bandaged with ACE bandage with tons of duck tape on top. It looked like I was wearing an astronaut boot. People thought I was crazy but there was no way I was sitting out. We made it to the championship but lost.

Technology has changed hunting but society and human expansion also changed hunting. No longer can we chase thousands of buffalos off a cliff on horseback. No longer can we chase buffalos on horseback and fling 30 spears onto its back and watch it die a long agonizing death nor should we. Hunting is also not a competition with fellow hunters. Hunting is testing yourself against nature. You set your own goals. To say you're successful can only be said when accomplishing the goals you set for yourself...not what others set for you. To say that you're a better hunter than someone else because you challenge yourself with certain limitations is like saying you relax and enjoy nature better than someone else and that's just ridiculous.
