1st year I didn't hunt deer. 2nd year, I struck out. 3rd year I got one. So 1/3 tag per year? Or just 1/2 a tag per year since 1st year doesn't count?

A simply home remedy is to mix white vinegar with water. Put it in a spray bottle, spray your glasses with it, and let it coat by drying. This was given to me by the person who ran the snorkeling tour while I was on vacay once when I saw him spray all the goggles with it. The goggle never fogged up while I was out in the ocean but I never tried it at home since I don't wear glasses anymore. He never told me the amount of vinegar to water ratio though.

Thanks for sharing Cabin. We get so many new hunters on this forum that your reminder probably saved a life or two and didn't even know it.

I've been on a prosciutto crave lately.

Stewart not as crowded during bow if you go in deep. It's filled with pheasant hunters though but they stick mainly to the fields and near the roads.

I use Remington gun oil. Comes in a spray can. A quick spray into the barrel then run a dry patch to spread it around evenly. I only do this at the end of the season when I'm putting the gun away for the summer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

Thanks Aaron. Yes, very excited. And stressful to. But it already seems worth it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

Went a couple of times but no luck either. I use the Ruger 10/22 and a 12 gauge. #6 steel shot. Mainly because they were on sale. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

My wife has taken her safety course. She tags along sometimes when I scout and a few times while squirrel hunting. She doesn't really care for hunting so she's mainly going for the hike. Purely as an observer. She gets her exercise in while keeping each other company. While I enjoy her company during these more casual outings, she doesn't want to nor would I want her to accompany for the still hunts. I doubt she would sit there for hours on end without getting bored and annoying the crap out of me. Would ruin our marriage.

I was in the same situation as well. No one I knew hunts. This forum connected me with a couple of hunters and now we get together and hunt from time to time. People have approached me about starting a club as well but they threw this idea at me right when I'm about to have my first child (due this November) so as you can imagine, starting a club is not at the top of my list right now but I've always been interested at least being part of a group near NYC.

That's pretty impressive. I can barely keep my crosshairs on a bouncing 8" plate at 200 yards and calculate elevation and wind changes at the same time but I certainly don't practice as much.
-
Possibly a good number of them are also further upstate where it's less crowded.

The hunter shouldn't be as proud of getting a monster trophy buck as the rancher should be for raising a monster trophy buck.
-
Just to clarify, with those who are confident that they can hit a sprinting deer at 200+ yards as their initial shot. Do you guy mean simply hitting the deer or are you saying you can hit the 8" target (that is the lung/heart area) every time?

If you guys make your way north, let me know. I might even be open to something on the western side of LI.

My first year of hunting, I'll admit that I've made a few mistakes. It got pointed out to me. I responded with the "Oh snaps! I didn't know! Thanks for letting me know. I sure won't be doing that again." It was simple as that. I think I get along pretty well with the fine people of this forum.

Divide and conquer, people. That's what we're doing to ourselves.

Heading out in the morning to whack done bushy tails
Elmo replied to BucksnBroads's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Seems to be a tough season so far. Not to many hunters are seeing a lot of squirrels. It appears not all the acorns have dropped yet so they don't need to come down from the top of the trees yet. -
Does that make him a master baiter?
-
I like the "too afraid to pull of the shot". Why would I be afraid? I'm not the one getting shot at. This has nothing to do with bravery.
-
Just because so far no one has agreed with your opinion doesn't mean your opinion doesn't count.
-
Just because a lot of people you see are doing something doesn't make it right or legal and it certainly doesn't mean all hunters do it. Fine. If you think some of us do, that's your opinion. That doesn't mean the rest of us who don't can't voice our opinions as well.

First reports makes it seem like it might be a disgruntled military or ex-military personnel.

Those white people are all racist. You know...those white people. The KKK. The ones that gives all the other warmed heart white people a bad name. You know what I meant. Not the same?
