  1. 8 yards? Wow. You had a nice shot when he stopped further out. It happens. Great video though.
  2. Someone once told me to be that the irony of being successful in IT is that you have to work hard in being lazy since your goal is to automate everything.
  3. Since I have not where I can put the mount...umm...no. Doesn't matter to me.
  4. Is that bubba back from the dead? Great to have you back!
  5. Fake IT guy here. In IT but don't actually do any work.
  6. Did you practice shooting from your stand? The angles are different than shooting from the ground so your arc on you trajectory will be different.
  7. a quick search on youtube and I came up with this. not sure what model you have but hopefully this is the right one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M055bigaoAU
  8. Yeap. I stood too close to the pivot point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  9. Happened several times on this thread.
  10. Also, be careful if you're using a tree stand. Rain makes the tree a little more slippery.
  11. Looks like the same thing that happened to me last year. Except I went down with the stand. I slipped right when I was adjusting my harness so the harness wasn't attached to the tree. Glad you're safe.
  12. I also don't use a quiver for the reason it keeps getting caught up on branches, etc. I carry one arrow with me in my hand or nocked. I don't think I have a chance at more than one shot. Either I'm going to hit or I'm going to scare everything away. If the location is fairly easy to get to (clear path or short hike) then I have a quiver that attaches to my bow and will carry a few arrows, because, why not? Once I get to my spot, though, I take the quiver off and lay it next to me. For rain, I have 2 hunting jackets and they both are water proof and has a hoodie on top. One heavier one for winter, and one light one for the fall. This weather though is ridiculous. It's been so hot that I've been hunting in a t-shirt.
  13. First off, if you shun technological advancements, then you should also shun social and scientific advancements are well. Many of these advancements have also shaped the way we hunt and I'm sure you have taken full advantage of these advancements are well. Such as deer behavior research. Setting game limits and date to produce healthier herds. Depends on how far you want to go back but old school hunting almost completely wipe out the American Bison and has made the Passenger Pigeon extinct. Secondly, I know this will get a lot of people riled up but I don't consider hunting a sport but more of an activity. I'm not in competition with anyone. I'm not trying to beat anyone. It isn't a sport because the playing fields are never even. Some hunters have access to hundreds of acre of private land and possibly work off it so they can see what's going on at a daily basis. Others don't have that luxury. I don't look at someone who has these luxuries as a better or worst hunter and I don't see why you would. If you truly belief in your statement that hunting is about spending time with family and spending time in the woods, then I really don't understand how someone who decides to use technology can ruin that for you. If someone sets up a trail cam, does that mean you can't be in the woods anymore? Or spend time with your family? Does their trail cams belittle your efforts?
  14. Only good criminal is a dead criminal. That's why I don a hooded mask at night and go on a vigilante death raid through the city's under world. Illegal is still illegal even if most of us here don't have a problem with it, it might not be a great idea to advertise it to the public. Not trying to call you out. Take it more as a concern suggestion.
  15. Happy birthday, Stan!
  16. Had a spike last night at 5:45 PM come in to 15 yards but he saw me draw my bow. His head was behind a bush when I pulled back but I guess he was able to see through the bush. We then had a staring contest for a minute before he decided he better run. This morning had 2 does at 30 yards come in from behind me at around 7:15 AM. Had a decent shot but passed up on it hoping for a better shot but it never came. Got white butt till they were completely out of distance. Got errands today so shutting it down till next weekend.
  17. Welcome to the forum. I think you found the right place. Your dad doesn't hunt anymore?

    Hello

Welcome aboard and thanks for your service.
  19. The licensing office closes late on Mondays so I use to leave work early and head down there on Mondays. As far as fund go, when you get into it, yeah, you tend to want a nice fancy firearm or what not but if fund is limiting and you really do want to hunt, there are some economic models that are just as good out there. I can show you where to buy once you have your license.
  20. Vince, A. Selfie is not a hunting term. It's what all these kids are doing, posting pictures of themselves in their bathroom mirrors flexing or shaking that bootie. You're really showing your age. Just playing with you, bro. B. Due to the heat wave, most deer are pretty much bedded in the shade some where during the day. You'll see the most activity right when the sun is coming up. You want to get to your spot when it's still dark out and settled in, plus an additional 1/2 hour to an hour to let everything forget you just trampled through. Deer starts to leave their feeding ground and head back to bed when they see the sun is coming up. Normally, through out the day, they would move here and there but in this heat I find that they don't. Then when the sun is going down, the wake up and start heading out to feed again since the temps are cool again.
